OT: Iowa settles in racism suit; will pay out $4 million in damages

Des Moines Register

A $4 million settlement agreement has been reached in the lawsuit filed by a group of Black former University of Iowa football players who claimed head coach Kirk Ferentz oversaw a racially discriminatory culture, according to state Auditor Rob Sand.

The Iowa Department of Management’s State Appeal Board was expected to vote on the matter by Monday afternoon.

However, Sand, one of the three appeal board members, said Monday morning he would oppose using taxpayer funds for the settlement unless Iowa athletics director Gary Barta was ousted.

In a statement, Sand said the settlement agreement would require the state and university to pay $4 million to the Black former players.

Exact terms of the settlement had not been made public Monday morning.

The State Appeal Board is a three-member board comprised of the auditor of state, treasurer of state, and director of the department. The board approves or rejects, and pays claims against the state or a state employee, and resolves local budget protests.

Basketball Game recap, Hoiberg on possible postseason play, Tominaga's future and more

Here's the game recap from the Huskers' loss to Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament:

OT: If you and your spouse/gf or bf both work from home, are you having more sex during the day?

Due to the pandemic, I've been working from home since March, 2020. My wife took a Corporate position with a major retailer about 5 months ago and is now working from home 3 to 4 days per week. All of our children are in school during the day, and this has meant we have a lot of time where we can bang it out with little restriction.

This got me thinking, surely I'm not the only dude who's discovered some untapped marital sex with their spouse.

Oh, and seeing my wife's libido on full display I have to ask the question, "who was she fvcking before she started working from home?" But I think I'm too distracted to care.

Can we at least agree this is pretty shitty?

Wow. If I shoot the wrong color goose right now they’d take my gun and truck most likely.

FWIW - Yet Another Conference Expansion Discussion (This One Suggests an ACC - PAC Merger)

Speculation continues on the conference expansion/merger front. Since the PAC apparently has problems getting a media deal it desires and FSU, Clemson and North Carolina are unhappy with their ACC deal, this article speculates about the possibility of those two conferences merging to create a Super Conference of 24 teams. The resulting Super Conference presumably would have more market clout to negotiate a better media payout and could compete with the B1G and SEC.

Things are unsettled because other conferences see the B1G and SEC outperforming them in terms of media payouts. In the ACC, FSU and Clemson are unhappy because they drive the biggest TV viewership but don't feel they get adequate compensation for it.

Does the PAC 12 regret not killing off the Big 12 when they had the chance?

Looking back, I wonder if the PAC 12 regrets not poaching teams from the Big 12 when Texas and Oklahoma announced that they were leaving. By taking teams from the Big 12, they could have established a TV market in Texas, they could have had games in the central time zone which would have increased their exposure and their TV revenue, and killed off a competing conference at the same time.

This board concerns me (OT)

Off season so quick comment on an OT matter. I believe most of those that read this board at a minimum reside in America and frankly most were born here. We are Husker fans clearly by our frequenting of this page. What I want to ask is whether anyone here observes a decline in our posters or perhaps could they be accelerating? My brother is a professor and says that most posters these days are matter of factly dumb. But was this always the case? Ultimately I think there is a Trumane Bell curve to consider. Some kids are going to be at the bottom and some at the top 10% whereas 80% might be what my brother classified as matter of factly dumb. It’s a pickle of a question but what say you?

Are posters today smarter than posters of yesteryear? Or is our posters matter of factly declining in intelligence?

Nebrasketball Tourney Chances

I don't follow all the bracketology stuff, nor do I care to, but for those who do, what do you think the bar is that Nebraska would need to clear to have a legit shot at being a bubble team?

Winning the next two is a given, which would put them at 17-14 and 10-10 in the B1G. They have no Quad 3 or 4 losses (which is huge), are currently 4-4 in Quad 2 games, and have three Quad 1 wins. Winning out would add at least one, if not two, Quad 1 wins.

I say win out and two more wins in the B1G tourney and they're squarely on the bubble. Three and they're in (though this is highly improbable).

Obviously, I realize it's a long shot, so Debbie Downers can save their breath about how it's never going to happen. Just fun to speculate this late into the season for once in a long time.

What say you?
