Fidone and Gilbert

Fidone appears to be fired up and ready to go. I haven’t heard anything about Gilbert‘s performance during Winter conditioning, but if both are healthy and ready to play it would be interesting to see them both on the field at the same time. It might be like having two Travis K’s on the field at the same time. That, along with a very mobile, fast and athletic QB might be a very threatening offense.

Baseball Live Thread BSB FINAL: Nebraska 8, Illinois State 3

We're back at Haymarket Park today on another cloudy, cold day as Nebraska (7-4-1) hosts Illinois State (5-6) to begin the three-game home weekend series. The Huskers have been on a roll by winning seven of their last eight games including a quick two-game sweep of Northern Colorado as Nebraska scored 26 runs and smacked eight home runs. Here's that series recap:

The Redbirds come into this weekend series having lost four of their last five losing two of three from Central Arkansas while losing a single midweek game to No. 3 Arkansas last week. Here's a preview of the Redbirds for this weekend:

Tonight has the possibility of a pitcher's dual as it will be LHP Emmett Olson (1-1, 4.32 ERA, 16.2 IP) vs. RHP Derek Salata (2-0, 1.72 ERA, 15.2 IP). Now, Salata probably isn't as good as his ERA indicates, but by no means is he bad. I expect a sweep, but if the Redbirds swipe a game, it'll be today.

Very early season prediction thread

Okay, so I am bored and I was looking at the schedule and guessing at what this season might be like. So I thought what the heck, why not start a prediction thread?
So many factors to consider. QB play. Offensive line improvement. Linebacker improvement. Better pass rush... So here goes:

@Minnesota: Loss. The Rhule era gets off to a rocky start. If this was not our first game and were it not on the road I would pencil this in the win column.
@CU: On the road and tons of fans will be in the stands with high emotion to see Deion's first game as coach. But we find a way to win.
Northern Illinois: A win. It better be and it will be. Rhule is not Mike Riley
La Tech: Same as above. No more Georgia Southerns. Rhule is not Scott Frost
Michigan: Loss. The talent gap is still too large.
@Illinois: Win. We should have beaten these turds last year.
Northwestern: Win. The Fitzgerald magic has worn off.
Purdue: Win. By this point in the season there will be momentum. Home game. We beat these guys.
@MSU: Win. MSU was really bad last year. Of course, so were we. But we always play very competitively against these guys. A solid road win
Maryland: Win. Home game and riding a four game win streak.
@Wisconsin: Win. I am tempted to predict a loss here. Mainly because Wisconsin has had our number since we joined the conference. I think we get some revenge here.
Iowa: WIN!!! And it won't be close this year.

As you can see, I am drinking the Rhule-Aid. I really think we are going to be a much improved team this year. And other than Michigan, there is not another team on our schedule that has more talent than we do. That is why I see a regular season at 10-2 with a trip to Indianapolis. Am I dreaming? Am I full of shit?

Tony White’s 3-3-5 Defense

@RVAHusker shared a excellent video about Tony White’s 3-3-5 defense. Not only the history of it but his connections to the Defensive master mind and father of the 3-3-5 in Rocky Long. Remember this is the defense that Brian Urlacher starred in at New Mexico.

At the 11:00 mark is when it really gets into the X & O’s of White’s defense at Syracuse. It gives one a much better understanding how the 3-3-5 is multiple and can turn into many different fronts. Also goes into Iowa State’s 3-3-5 some as well.

Let's think out loud about the inside linebackers.

Iowa Settles Racist Lawsuit -- Pay 'Settlement' with Tax Dollars

gofundme for Bucky712 and his family

Not sure if anyone has posted anything yet but Bucky712 from the MB, his family had a terrible accident yesterday which claimed the life of his wife and his youngest daughter. Three of his children luckily survived and there is a go fund me started for his family linked below. Anyone that frequents TMB knows Bucky, he's a die-hard Iowa fun but a good dude. Any donations would be greatly appreciated, I know its going to be a long road ahead for his family, and probably a ton of medical bills, especially for his one daughter. Also any prayers for his family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
