FWIW - Yet Another Conference Expansion Discussion (This One Suggests an ACC - PAC Merger)

Speculation continues on the conference expansion/merger front. Since the PAC apparently has problems getting a media deal it desires and FSU, Clemson and North Carolina are unhappy with their ACC deal, this article speculates about the possibility of those two conferences merging to create a Super Conference of 24 teams. The resulting Super Conference presumably would have more market clout to negotiate a better media payout and could compete with the B1G and SEC.

Things are unsettled because other conferences see the B1G and SEC outperforming them in terms of media payouts. In the ACC, FSU and Clemson are unhappy because they drive the biggest TV viewership but don't feel they get adequate compensation for it.

I think it's becoming clear with consolidation that there isn't enough room in the future for the P5 to have five roughly equal conferences. So the bottom 3 conferences now are going to be in a dogfight to see which of them survive.

Bring back Cal State Fullerton football! Add them to the PAC to get their baseball team and the LA market back in play. The PAC-11 (with CSF) and ACC plus ND* fuse to form the Jeff Bezos Amazonian League. The Amazonian League will have two tiers: The Prime and the Prime Access divisions. The Prime will have 10 teams and receive the biggest payouts, the last place team is relegated. The Prime Access will have 16 teams and the winner is promoted.

*ND can make its own schedule and is immune from relegation because that's what they would do.
