Baseball Live Thread BSB FINAL: Omaha 10, Nebraska 6

Back at Haymarket Park for the second midweek series of the season as Nebraska (9-4-1) hosts in-state rival Omaha (5-8) for the first of three meetings this year between both squads - including the first of two games here at Hawks Field. The Huskers come into Tuesday's game having won nine of their last 10 games including four straight.

The Mavericks are out to a slow start to begin their 2023 season limping to a 5-8 record but have won the last two games with a pair of victories against Stonehill over the weekend. Rumor is Mike Boeve is out of the Mavericks' lineup tonight. The third basemen is the best player on the Omaha roster and is projected to become an early round MLB draft pick this summer. He's hitting .475 with 19 hits, six doubles and nine RBI through the first dozen games.

It should be an interesting pitching matchup as long relief man RHP Michael Garza (1-1, 1.64 ERA) vs. RHP Charlie Bell (1-1, 6.00 ERA). Garza has tossed 9.1 consecutive shutout innings including 3.1 scoreless innings against No. 4 Ole Miss a couple weeks ago. Bell is making his fourth start of the season. Here's the full preview:

We'll see if this Omaha pitching staff can handle this Husker offense who is first in the Big Ten in batting average, doubles, doubles per game and slugging percentage.

OT: Retiring outside the US…

So… Considering retiring outside the US. Anyone else done this, or considering this?

Personally, we are considering Italy. Love the country. Stable European Union government. Low retirement taxes. Warm “Santa Barbara type” climate…yet the most important part…not in California.

Currently looking at the property linked below. Surrounded by 7 acres of olive orchards. In the beautiful “White City” of Ostuni, Apulia located on the shores of the Mediterranean. What I feel is a bargain for $750,000 US.

Thinking purchase it now, and Airbnb it till ready for retirement.

Basketball Nebraska's season officially ends as Huskers aren't selected for NIT

The Huskers' season is officially done as NU isn't selected to play in the NIT.

Now, a look to next season.

"I think we've got a blueprint for what we want it to look like, and now we've got to go out and find the right players to keep this positive trend going."

Stock Market Opinions

I've been coming to this board to get the opinions of my esteemed colleagues for over 20 years and have always appreciated everyone's thoughts on a number of different topics as I know this board represents a broad stroke of professionals in almost every walk of life.

What do you think the next 6, 12, 24 months will look like for equities with inflation, rising interest rates, supply chain interruptions, conflict in Ukrain, and several other macro and micro variables that might affect the US and global economies for the foreseeable future?

I would classify myself as a 35 year old value investor that appreciates the current sales on quality stocks personally. I'm 30 years away from retirement and won't mind continual decline after purchases. Without trying to time the market I hope to find some quality buying opportunities now and for the foreseeable future. I for one still think most stocks are overpriced as the recent large declines haven't quite made up for the buying binge that happened over the last 2-3 years. I personally dislike crypto and have stayed away from it, have stayed away from IPOs for the most part outside of NuBank that I've been buying up since January, and want to look for some household companies that are doing well, but might have stock prices plummeting because of macro factors outside of their control caused by manic sellers.

When the housing market stabilizes down the road further I might look to buy a few more rental properties, but I think with stock prices falling there might be more upside and less work in equities in the next few years, especially when considering higher financing costs on real estate.

Please share your view on the stock market, time frames you see on additional declines, value stocks you're watching. I don't care if you run a hedge fund on Wall Street or day trade with your allowance in your parent's basement. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Greatly appreciated fellow RSS patrons.

Baseball Cole Evans named B1G Player of the Week

The transfer outfielder and Grand Island native was named the B1G Player of the Week after hitting .818 (9-for-11) last week with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored across three games against both Northern Colorado and Illinois State.

Evans has stepped up in a big way with usual outfielder Garrett Anglim out due to a hamstring injury. Evans just enjoyed a career day where he went 4-for-4 Saturday against the Redbirds with a pair of doubles and four RBI.

Huskers return to action Tuesday against Omaha at 6:05 p.m. at Haymarket Park.

Tourney Cinderellas

Haven't followed much CB this year outside of the Huskers and a few major storylines. So who are this year's tourney teams that are going to make some noise only for you to come back in a week or two and say: "Yeah, I should've seen that coming"

Who is going to be this year's St. Joe's, George Mason, VCU or Loyola?
