I hope Dylan Raiola doesn’t get pressured into being a Husker.

We all obviously want him to be a Husker, but I have doubts about whether that is what he wants. Our fans are dissecting his interviews for signs of hope, but he is in a challenging position and has to be diplomatic. With his uncle on our staff and his family legacy with the Huskers, of course he is going to voice interest in Nebraska until the end.

I get the feeling his heart is elsewhere, however. I hope I am wrong, and he wants to come here and help us restore our program.

Heading to Arrowhead tomorrow...

I haven't been back to Arrowhead since the 18-16 divisional round loss to the Steelers in 2017. Was thinking about doing it all week but finally pulled the trigger and bought a ticket to the AFC title game tomorrow.

Sounds dramatic but I told myself I'd never go back to a game there because it really was that painful. Six-hour drive there felt like 14 on the way home. But I've never lived this close to KC before (6-hour drive living in IL, 9.5 hours in Columbus and 19.5 living in Connecticut lol) and I need to watch prime Mahomes in person in a playoff game or I'd regret it forever. And I also don't wanna get a noise violation watching it at home in my new apartment complex 😂 absolutely no clue how I didn't get one during the 13 Seconds Game last year.

Recruiting Nebraska set to host Colorado DB for official visit

It's the last weekend to host official visitors and for now I can confirm one player will be in town on a visit. Nebraska will host Colorado defensive back D'Andre Barnes for an official visit this weekend. Barnes is a state champion in the 200m dash and will likely repeat that this year. On the football field Barnes had 55 tackles and 6 INTs with 2 forced fumbles as a senior. Barnes told me what he is most looking forward to about the visit.

"I am looking forward to seeing the facilities of a Big Ten football school. Seeing just how different it is from any other school I’ve been to. I can’t wait to see just how big football is there."

Barnes has been to Wyoming and Air Force for visits. He has heard from teammates (including former Husker commit Hayden Moore) that Nebraska is on another level and has stuff he's never seen before.

Saban and NIL and the Portal

Saban isn’t one of my favorite coaches, porobably because he wins so much, but his stance oin NIL and the Portal are important. The incident from two 5 star players who wanted 1.2 million and admission to law school for a girl friend with all if her tuition and fees paid obviously pissed Nick off. He sent the packing.

There is probably no stronger voice in college football right now than Saban. He doesnt like the portal and especially doesnt like NIL. I agree. If the NCAA doers not put some reasonable controls on NIL it has the potential to ruin college football.

I think about the Portal somewhat differently because teams like Alabama, Georgia and a couple of others are simply stockpiling great athletes three or four deep. The portal is clearly a good thing for them, but combining the portal and NIL makes it a dangerous combination.

I love DONU and I know the portal and NIL are helping us now, but in a few years, if Rhule et al keep recruiting like they are, we could be stacked as well and we could lose players as well. I dont know if the NCAA can legally put a limit on how much a player can be paid, but it migh help. Better yet, if the right coaches said no, it might kill the whole thing. If NIL is put under some kind of controls it may kill College Football.
