I love the uptick momentum in men’s basketball right now, but

Can anyone tell me what we’re doing in the way of recruiting? We lose 3 big time players in walker, griesel and bandoumel. I realize we have Keita to somewhat fill in for walker but in the world of college basketball, if you aren’t bringing in studs left and right you are 2 steps behind. Maybe I’m just not in the know enough to know what Fred has in the works, but we need some studs to keep this momentum going. This has always been our problem in basketball. Any promising outlook on this?

I’m pretty dumb…

so there’s probably a good answer to this and maybe it’s been asked before. Why don’t college or pro teams use their fast athletic DBs to return punts and/or KOs anymore? Some of the best all time have been DBs; Devon Hester, Deon Sanders, Allen Rossum, Charles Woodson and probably a few I can’t remember. NU even had some good ones like Dejuan Groce.

Players are rarely injured on punt/KO returns due to the new rules and they don’t attempt a return as often either. I think it’s only about 1 out of every 5 kicks an actual return is attempted. (Like 1 out of 100 if you’re a Nebraska fan 😕) Would it really be that big of a risk to put one of your top DBs back for punts/KOs if they’re really good at it? Probably wouldn’t get more than 1-3 opportunities a game, but it only takes one punt return or kick return to change a game. IDK, was just thinking about the fact that nobody does that anymore, college or pro.

What say you?

What The TCU win and best group of 5 Tulane prove

that the game is definitely getting more spread out with talent.

The move to 12 teams instead of two and four is going to make it even more likely that these lesser teams that are NOT in the top 4 or 5 can recruit players because now they can be part of a playoff if they just get in the top 12.

Haven’t checked this thoroughly, but I believe TCU was the first underdog not only did not get blown out to it to actually win the semi final game as a team who wasn’t even supposed to be in a week or two ago. certainly the first non-blue blood so there’s progress and then went to lanes doing is more progress. These teams would’ve made the top 12.

so to me, it was a little bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. When we kept it to two and four will of course you’re gonna be top loaded there but now when you’ve got 24 teams potentially vying for a playoff spot or more the last few weeks of a season that’s awesome and it’s going it make this game is better.

Recruiting Inside the recruitment of 2023 OL Jason Maciejczak, snowstorm and all

Jason Maciejczak is an intriguing member of the Huskers' 2023 class. But it wasn't until mid December when Nebraska got seriously involved. Here's a look at his recruitment story, snowstorm and all.

Breaking News Nebraska DL Colton Feist will not return in 2023

Inside Nebraska's @Greg Smith has confirmed that Nebraska interior defensive lineman Colton Feist will not return to the Huskers for the 2023 season.

So Who's Ready for Mickey to be HC??

According to this article from today that seems to be circulating elsewhere, Mickey is likely our next HC. Now, take it with a grain of salt (I hate the Fansided site personally). But I did see this same article appear multiple sites...

Long story short: Trev sounds like he's been offering incentive based contracts to the major candidates we've all been debating over. Just as some cautioned against (I know @dinglefritz warned against it). Because of this, it sounds like we haven't had much for bites from anyone in the candidate field. I wholeheartedly doubt it's due to "being in Nebraska" as some clowns like to make it seem all about.

My take: Part of me appreciates Trev ending the approach of UNL being a welfare program for the already wealthy (coaches who come here, get paid, fail, then are inevitably fired and paid some more). But part of me understands the very real nature of what it takes to compete in the marketplace for top notch coaches (even if they do present very real risk themselves).

Overall though, I for one AM ready for HC Mickey Joseph to take the reigns next year and doing what he can with his recruiting prowess to get Frost's abortion of a team repaired to at least compete for the West once more (at least one more year of divisions in the B1G from what I read earlier). I just hope he goes and gets some killer assistants. THAT is where B1G money should be spent.
