The offense next year?

After watching the vaunted PAC 12 yesterday, I’m not sure those 4 teams are much better than the B1G. Cal got screwed out of a win over USC. Oregon is good. UW is solid. UCLA is a lot of fluff. It will be an interesting transition for them.
They will have to adjust to the physicality, especially on defense and on both lines, for 8 straight games.

Here’s my two cents whatever it’s worth. If they continue to roll with HH into next year then they need to be committed to being an option team. Probably passing only 20 times per game, hopefully RBs getting the lion share of carries in the run game as the OL get better.

I don’t know what Rhule/Satterfield’s long term vision is going forward with the offense. Whatever they were trying to do in the first two games of the season seemingly trying to mesh 3 different philosophies into one isn’t going to work with HH. He’s a running QB and that’s fine, but build an offense that plays to his strengths. If you expect him to turn into a pocket passer even with an improved line I think you’ll be disappointed.
True if HH is the plan they need to spend all offseason in the office with Frank Solich, Ron Brown, Tom Osborne, and Turner Gill.

I have no fear of USC/UCLA. Both are great offensive minds with defensive issues. As long as we have Tony White as DC we will be fine.

I think the Oregon and Washington coaches are a lot better. I think Washington might not matchup physically. But Oregon I think could potentially matchup.

You can go ahead and keep Solich out of the office. With talent like Crouch and a food offensive line, fine but his quarterbacks kept too much out of the formation he was in. Wouldn't want his input on building this offense.

If we are going to stay this run heavy, we probably need to diversity it a little more. Jet sweeps, fullback dives, etc. To cut down on the QB carries.
True watching their offenses in the past there were a lot more FB carries and wildcat runs. Surprised we have not seen that much this year. But I doubt in the end we will be quite this run heavy in their ideal system.

This will be fun.
O line. I think all of our O lineman are back except one. Also have some maulers coming N this class.
RB. EJ looking good. Gabe and Rahmir back? Kwinton Ives. Need a couple more. Portal?
TE. Fidone and Boerkicher. Ismael Smith Flores. 3 studs coming N. Set for years.
WR. No disrespect to Hahn and Bullock but the 3 young speedsters are the shot we needed. Jacory, Daevon and Mcmorris coming N. Neal Smith's boy coming N looks good. Ken Clark's boy is a big target.
Saved the best for last.
QB. This is the million-dollar question. I like HH and his toughness and what he has done this year. Is he the starter for the next 2 years?
I hope he can improve his passing and do a better job of hanging onto the ball. The rest of this season will tell us more. I just wish he would stop taking unnecessary hits. If he gets injured, we will be arguing who sucks worse? Sims or Purdy.
Off season Sims will probably be gone. Danny K I think needs a year in the weightroom before he's ready for Big 10 play.
I think we need a serious portal QB this offseason and let him and HH battle it out for next year. Thoughts? Go......
The QB is not a million dollar question. It would be criminal if Rhule did not go out and get the best transfer QB he can. If you can be better at a position then you do it. RB/OL/WR as well is a no Brainer. Depending on who you can get.

TE is the only spot on offense I could see them not being as active with, but I wouldn’t rule it out with Fidone injury history.

He was the Running back coach and long time assistant of TO. Plus Rhule respects him as well. Be negative of him as a HC all you want. He was part of some of the best Husker offenses of all time.

He could make a lot of money and live a great life by staying at NU for the rest of his career. NU will pay top of the DC market.
I don’t see him leaving after 1 season unless his family just doesn’t like it there. I agree they will match any offer for DC or maybe even compete with a lower level HC salary.

I think Tony likes the culture. Moving family after one year? Would have to be a very good offer. I don't think he goes to USC I just don't think that fits his personality. I could be wrong though.

He should have stayed the running backs coach. Never called plays in some of those best offenses.

The more competition (especially on offense), the better. I would like them to get a portal QB to compete with HH for the starting job. I wouldn't mind them getting a portal RB, WR, and OT as well for competition purposes.
Barring a drastic increase in production over the last half of the season, no one on offense should feel like they've secured the job heading into 2024. Get the best players you can and develop them. They're already ahead of schedule in my book. Hoping they can keep that momentum going to end the season and build off of it heading into 2024.

All that being said, it wouldn't surprise me if HH took a leap with a full offseason as the #1 guy on offense in addition to the games he's played this year.

Unless we really fail at the RB position in this class I doubt that Rhule goes after any RB (baring some high end guy showing up.) I think WR he might go after. OL will be like last time just looking for the best OL prospects available.

I think the offense will continue to be multiple with different run based schemes to confuse defenses and open up chunk play action pass plays.

Arizona is doing better than expected. They have a chance to finish the season ranked.

Not interested in seeing Gabe or Ramir play again.

Push the old players out.

We are rebuilding and moving forward.

2 returning underclassmen at TE plus 3 more h.s. tight ends. I would be shocked if we went after a portal te.

I am excited for all the young DL guys. Gettimg Noonan back will be huge too

Specialists. Sam Koch kid N. Tristan Alvano looks to be the man the next 3 years. After Buschini? We always find good punters.
This is not true. The scholarship punter that "stepped up" for the late Sam Foltz if I remember correctly had whiffs both in punting formation and on kickoffs.

UCLA's defense is top 10 nationally this year

I believe they'll be the ones with the least amount of adjustment needed in both football and hoops (will be pretty awesome to have them for hoops)

I guess it's hard to say. Bo Pelini's defense looked great before they got ripped by the BIG. But I like chip liked him more than SF to be fair.

Ignorant.
No you

Seriously, the only way to make the option out of the I formation (everyone said you couldn't make it work) efficient as possible was to make certain the QB didn't keep the ball as often as Solich allowed Crouch or Lord did. Osborne knew Frost needed to keep more, so he ran a lot of single back sets in 97. Plus Frank called option a lot more often out of the I.

Not counting bowl games for career
Turner Gill 8.17 carries/game
Tommie Frazier 9.77 carries/game
Scott Frost 12.58 carries/game 10.5 in 96 14.66 in 97 with ace split sets
Eric Crouch 14.84 carries/game. Every season his average carry per game increased.
Jammal Lord 17.25. 251 carries in 02. 215 when Cotton took over play calling duties.

Solich doesn't need to teach anyone THIS offense. He drove a Lambo into a ditch. Granted, anyone could have. Osborne was that much a genius. You'll never see someone have 5 national titles calling the offense ever again.

We will see. We have over signed by a lot this class and Rhule can still pull scholarship under the new coach rule. So it will be interesting to watch.
From Rhule's remarks, he really likes Rahmir Johnson, I think he felt like he could always rely on him in the game. But he was playing Gabe RB1, so he must really like him as well. GE has had three season ending injuries in three years. Some people who look like they should be durable are not. Kids his age aren't supposed to get hip surgeries. I'm assuming Rahmir has graduated, so it would be easy to see him moving on as a grad transfer. But I could also see both of them coming back if Rhule is concerned about RB depth. That room has Ives and EJ as the only healthy RBs returning next season. The class is 26 with tight space on scholarships. I'm assuming they'll take a HS kid at RB, but a portal would be just swapping Gabe/Rahmir for another guy. Basically they need more RBs and what they do really depends on the medical prognosis of those two guys. If the docs say they'll be good to go for 2024, will Rhule be able to get a better RB out of the portal?

yea what a foolish opinion to want the kid who's 5-1 and getting better every week to continue leading the team to wins

I'm such an idiot for recognizing potential and sticking with what's working
Getting better every week?

All in all, he looked pretty good throwing the ball against michigan.

It was nice to see some down the field shots Saturday night as well. He seems to throw a pretty good deep ball.
he was also 3 for 3 converting 3rd downs during our first scoring drive

all 3 were 3rd and 8+

Doss and Lloyd don't commit those drops and we're talking about 8/11 and close to 15 yards/attempt

"arm punt", as @Lincoln100 likes to call him, was on the money all game long through the air

He had a better game passing, but hasn’t been “getting better every week.”

If a player in the portal is THAT good it won't be easy for Nebraska to land them unless there are some prior connections maybe. I would take one portal player for each position besides TE at this point.

Rumors that Jalon Daniels (QB from Kansas) might hit the portal after the season.
