OLB Chief Borders has committed to Nebraska, joining safety Corey Collier Jr. and longsnapper Marco Ortiz as former Florida Gators to announce their transfer to Lincoln.

Borders explained some of the reasons he picked the Huskers in an interview with Inside Nebraska's Steve Marik:

Nebraska has gone into the DMV area (Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia) to offer 2024 four-star weakside defensive end Dylan Stewart from Washington D.C.'s Friendship Collegiate Academy. Stewart is ranked No. 61 overall, No. 3 WDE and No. 2 in D.C.

I'm pretty familiar with Stewart from my time covering OSU and South Carolina recruiting. I went to visit Stewart back in mid-May as part of a big East Coast recruiting swing that I did. (Actually, now that I think about it, I went to visit with Stewart literally two hours after I was offered the Nebraska publisher role lol that's kind of ironic and funny in retrospect)

Anyway...

Stewart is an extremely long, impressively athletic pass rusher who combines those qualities with a 6-foot-5 frame that is now up to 245 lbs. Some schools see him translating as more of a hybrid linebacker/standup defensive end, but I think – and Stewart does too – that a career as an edge rusher with his hand in the dirt is more likely. But rushing out of a two-point stance is on the table. Could be getting recruited by the Huskers in a similar way as recent JUCO transfer Kai Wallin.

Love that the Huskers are dipping into the DMV area. I have more thoughts on that which I've shared in these forums before: It's such an untapped recruiting area for the Huskers that is loaded with talent in a small radius. So it's valuable for the coaches to maximize their time by seeing dozens of top players within the time crunch of the recruiting calendar. I'd like to pretend that the new staff took my advice by targeting DMV-area players haha

Former Husker commit Cameron Lenhardt has announced a Jan. 3 commitment announcement date. Wrote earlier this morning that I felt the Huskers were in good position to get him back in the class despite his recruitment pretty much having gone silent. FWIW: Lenhardt made this announcement on Twitter, and Matt Rhule RT'd it 🤷‍♂️

Nebraska woke up Friday morning with a class ranked outside of the top 50 nationally and No. 12 in the Big Ten.

The Huskers are now on the cusp of cracking the top 30 in the national rankings and sit at No. 5 in the Big Ten as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Does anyone know how this works at Nebraska? Is there a base amount of NIL money that every player gets or is it a case by case deal. Obviously some get a lot more than others. Just wondered if every player gets some money.

Now that we're in the mode of looking at yet another transition class, here's a review of the last 6 transition classes:

1973 - Tom Osborne - 40 in the class - 22 of 40 earned letters, 2 All Americans, 3 All Conference
1998 - Frank Solich - 21 in the class - 19 of 21 earned letters, 2 All Americans, 4 All Conference
2004 - Bill Callahan - 18 in the class - 15 of 18 earned letters, 0 All Americans, 1 All Conference
2008 - Bo Pelini - 28 in the class - 21 of 28 earned letters, 0 All Americans, 2 All Conference
2015 - Mike Riley - 20 in the class - 16 of 20 earned letters, 0 All Americans, 2 All Conference (Both committed to Pelini)
2018 - Scott Frost - 24 in the class - 11 of 24 earned letters, 0 All Americans, 2 All Conference

It's not totally apples to apples because three of these coaches inherited winning programs. But the thing that stands out to me is that compared to all of the others (75% to 90%), more than 50% of the players that Frost signed never contributed anything.

For a program to be strong, you should probably have around 1/2 of your recruits starting at some time in their career, but most of the rest tend to contribute to some degree. But if you look at Frost's subsequent classes, you'll see a similar trend where we may get a number of starters, but the remainder contribute nothing. This is quite a departure from any of the previous coaches.

Save yourself from the "why are you bringing this up" responses. Just a couple of data points to ponder. BTW, I think that anyone who asks why something is being brought up on a football forum or complains about something being talked about before should just not read the stuff because you could make that claim for just about anything posted here.

Colorado is selling their merchandise with “Prime” written all over it. Selling out a whole program for one guy. Doubt this ends well.

I’m not saying Luke Fickell won’t be good eventually or even soon at Wisc and maybe they close strong.

But just wonder what Shanle’s point was advocating Fickell over Rhule when Shanle’s point is we need to get someone who can turn around now not in 3-5 years.

Not sure how Fickell fits that better recruiting bill
that Shanle wanted but I guess it’s still early.

He may develop and coach better than Rhule who knows but from recruiting standpoint, his comment just comes off like bitter hater of the hire and of Trev… which is really why he bashed the hire… let’s be honest.
