Buffalos

Anyone else read ESPN's biggest over reactions to Spring football? Specifically the trash if CU would compete to win the Pac 12. A team that won 1 game last year and just had most of their team leave. they right now are just misfit island taking anyone to fill holes.....what a complete joke.

The amount of hype he gets is sickening. I still will bet big that toughness and 11 guys fighting for each other beats the Prime Show.

OT: Kentucky Derby

I decided to start this thread a day earlier than planned.

I know there are many guys on here who have little interest in horseracing/The Kentucky Derby, but there are some who will be watching and wagering, so I want to give them all a chance to make comments, ask questions, etc.

Monday, I have my 5-week exam at a Retina Center. I go there, get a needle in my right eye and it affects my vision for most of the day. I know dpnavy and a few others are expecting this thread, so I didn't want them to think I'd forgotten.

Off and on, over the last 10 days I have been working on the Derby, so I think I can answer most questions any of the guys may have. I could have started dumping some data tonight, but the Post Position draw isn't until tomorrow, and as all handicappers know, in a 20-horse field it can really change the way you look at a horse's potential performance.

I'm not going to pick a horse. That's not what I do. However, I can provide a ton of information on individual horses and it may help someone to bolster the reasons they like a certain horse, or it may also dissuade them. I never tell someone how to spend their money.

I will include all their Performance Numbers, indicating if the horse is improving or staying the same, or moving backward headed into the race. I intend to separate the field of horses into about 5 flights once they round the first turn. Probably by Wednesday or Thursday, I will include a personality overview of each horse that will indicate if it's likely that the horse will be able to handle the environment or not.

I'll likely narrow it done to 3-4 horses that are ELITE in terms of physical ability, mental ability, and if they possess an Individual Herd Mentality or if they, in fact, have a Group Herd Mentality. There will be a handful of horses that possess a sensory ability, and that is one of the more important parts of the actual race.

Having said all that, luck plays a huge part in being able to cash a bet for real money in a race with 20 horses filled with chaos.

Baseball Live Thread Game 45 FINAL: No. 23 Maryland 20, Nebraska 5

A good one on tap today as Nebraska (25-18-1, 10-7) takes on Maryland (32-16, 12-5) for the series finale as the winner takes the series win. Yesterday was a much-needed win for the Huskers who took down the Terrapins thanks to 12 runs and four home runs, but it was Shay Schanaman who stepped up big time by tossing five inning allowing three runs in relief of NU starter Jace Kaminska who allowed seven runs in four innings. Here's that recap from yesterday:

It was much different than the series opener on Friday where a five-run fifth inning by the Terrapins erased an early Husker lead to take an 8-4 victory. Here's that recap:

Today, it'll be LHP Will Walsh (3-1, 4.06) vs. RHP Jason Savacool (4-4, 4.43 ERA)

The Huskers aren't expected to win this series, but a win today would be huge not only for the confidence of this team down the stretch, but putting a more secure lock for the Big Ten tournament in a couple of weeks. I'd say this is the biggest game since the Michigan series finale in April.

Basketball Quaran McPherson has entered the transfer portal

Inside Nebraska has confirmed Quaran McPherson entered his name in the transfer portal today.

McPherson, a 6-foot-3, 197-pound guard from Queens, New York, spent the past two seasons with the Huskers but never appeared in a game. After a postgraduate season at Link Year in Missouri during the 2020-21 campaign, McPherson, a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021, redshirted his first year with Nebraska. In August, he suffered a season-ending knee injury.

McPherson’s move to the portal comes in the middle of a busy and important offseason for fifth-year head coach Fred Hoiberg, who is looking to build off last season’s 16-16 record. McPherson becomes the third Husker to enter the transfer portal, joining Oleg Kojenets and Denim Dawson. Kojenets has since transferred to Wyoming and Dawson to Tennessee State.

The Huskers added two transfers from mid-major programs in forward/center Rienk Mast of Bradley and guard Brice Williams of Charlotte. Mast was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference pick last season while Williams was second-team All-Conference USA.

Brady Dunlap, a 2023 guard, visited this past weekend, as did former Siena point guard Javian McCollum. A source has told me McCollum is likely to sign with Oklahoma.

Nebraska now has three open scholarships available for the 2023-24 season.

New QB in the portal?

Michigan State's incumbent starting quarterback confirms he will not return to East Lansing in 2023...

Michigan State Football will have a new signal-caller leading the offense in 2023.

Redshirt senior quarterback Payton Thorne has confirmed with a social media post that he will not return to East Lansing this fall after entering the transfer portal on April 30th.

I had not heard a peep about the kid.

Beaver Stadium Renovations

Just read that Penn State is embarking on a $700 million renovation of Beaver Stadium. And I know from talking to people out here who have been season ticket holders for decades that this is needed in order to keep butts in the seats and to get people out of their comfortable homes with their 100 inch TV's and massive sound systems. So, as we all know, this is just further evidence that the trend in college football is definitely away from actual game attendance. Question: will stadium renovations be enough to stop this trend?

The second reason given for the PSU renovations is that they hope to make PSU capable of hosting a playoff game in the expanded format. Question: How likely is it that a northern school will land a playoff game in December? Second question: assuming that the playoff committee will select warm weather stadiums, will this not privilege southern tier teams in the playoffs?
