Football Everything Jim Harbaugh said about the Huskers this week

Harbaugh is a classic football guy. Could be wrong, but I get the sense that he's genuinely excited for this game simply because of the way his team and the Huskers share similar play styles. Harbaugh and Rhule both broke down the game in similar ways.

Volleyball Jordan Larson adjusting on the go in joining championship-hungry Nebraska

Cool insight from Jordan Larson yesterday who’s currently only a few days into her new role as Nebraska’s assistant coach. Hit the link.

Football Memorial Stadium renovation plans going public tomorrow, 2024 Big Ten slate soon? An actual home game in the Big Ten opener?!

Couple things to be on the lookout for in the near future:

– Memorial Stadium renovation plans will be going public tomorrow. Trev will be going in front of the BoR to propose the new "modernization effort," as he put it, next Thursday (Oct. 5) and the meeting agenda has to be public one week prior.

– Not sure when, but it sounds like we're not too far away from getting the 2024 Big Ten Schedule Release 2.0

– Trev is putting his best foot forward to get the Huskers a *gasp* HOME GAME as their first Big Ten game of the season. Six straight on the road to open B1G play including four in a row in Week 1 is kinda ridiculous.

Football Michigan at Nebraska Prediction & Preview (CollegeFootballNews.com)

Michigan vs. Nebraska Prediction and Game Preview
by Pete Fiutak, CollegeFootballNews.com

Michigan (4-0) at Nebraska (2-2)
Saturday, September 30 - 3:30 PM (ET) - FOX

Why Michigan Will Win
Michigan has been the epitome of consistency so far, and it hasn't exactly pushed the envelope offensively. It hasn't needed to.

The running game is fine, the passing game effective, and the defense hasn't allowed much of anything, giving up seven points or fewer in every game.

Nebraska doesn't have any sort of scoring pop to push through the Wolverine and nation's No. 1 scoring D. There's zero passing game for Michigan to worry about, the Husker secondary won't be able to stop J.J. McCarthy from keeping the chains moving, and forget it if the turnovers start coming.

The Huskers gave it up eight times in the first two games and .......

Why Nebraska Will Win
......the mistakes stopped, and all of a sudden the Huskers started to win.

Granted, playing Northern Illinois and Louisiana Tech had something to do with it -- there wasn't much need to press, and replacing Jeff Sims with Heinrich Haarberg calmed the turnovers down with just one in the last two games -- but Michigan isn't forcing mistakes.

Nebraska has to be flawless. Penalties aren't a problem, the running game that's been able to get to 220 yards or more in each of the last three games has to control the tempo, and the nation's No. 1 run defense has to keep on being amazing -- it allowed under two yards per carry and just 185 total yards in the first four games.

Who Will Win
You know how this works, Michigan types.

The team gets off to a slow start, the other side will keep the game from getting out of hand, and then the second quarter starts.

Michigan has allowed only 23 points and ten of them came in the fourth quarter when everything was essentially over. This is the first road game for the Wolverines and the second game back for Jim Harbaugh, and it'll be a nice test.

The running game will have to fight a bit, but the offense will balance out as -- like always -- the Wolverines start to kick everything in after the first quarter.

Prediction
Michigan 30, Nebraska 10

Spread
Michigan is favored on the road by 17 points. The O/U is set at 39 points.

The Athletic: Haarberg has Seized the Moment

nice midweek read. some things that stood out:

Last winter, after the sprint to sign a class of recruits and scour the transfer portal for reinforcements in the wake of Rhule’s post-Thanksgiving introduction, the coaches watched video cut-ups from practice and games of all the returning Huskers.

Rhule and Satterfield noticed Haarberg’s athleticism and strong throwing mechanics. The coaches also heard about various opinions that Haarberg would make a good tight end or fullback. Rhule recalls pulling Haarberg aside in the football offices.

“I said, ‘Hey, Heinrich, let me talk to you for a second,’” Rhule said. “‘Everybody says you should go play tight end, you should go play fullback.’ I could kind of see this look of disgust on his face. And I said, ‘I think you should go play quarterback.’”
-------------------------------------------------

“I love everything that [Haarberg] does,” Grant said.

-------------------------------------------------

Receiver Alex Bullock said Haarberg possesses “all the attributes you look for in a leader.”

-------------------------------------------------
“The biggest thing is for him to have support from his teammates,” said Eric Crouch, the 2001 Heisman Trophy winner. “It can get a little hairy in the quarterback room if you let it.”

-------------------------------------------------

Marcus Satterfield, the first-year Nebraska offensive coordinator, had no experience with option football until this year.

Coach Matt Rhule and his offensive staff for the past month have received a crash course in option principles from Ron Brown. A longtime former assistant under Tom Osborne, Frank Solich and Bo Pelini, Brown works this season for Rhule as the director of player support and outreach.

Enter Brown, with his expertise. And Haarberg.

“It’s a balance,” Haarberg said. “We don’t sit down and watch ’90s film. We install new stuff, new pass plays. (The coaches) pump out new plays all the time.”

Michigan fan checking in here, excited for our first big test this year

I’m concerned about your defense. We don’t do well with the 3-3-5, with lots of movement and confusion. I don’t know if you saw the TCU game but it was probably my least favorite game from last year. I didn’t like it and would prefer to avoid a repeat. Would you guys mind just lining up like men and doing something we are more comfortable blocking? Thanks in advance.

9-25 Rhule PC notes

Login to view embedded media Coach Rhule Press Conference (September 25th) Notes: -Great opportunity to play Michigan -See how Heinrich and Jeff practice to get a full picture on who will start -Luke Reimer still questionable for Michigan -"Nobody came to the University of Nebraska to not play good teams" -We're not hear to complain, here to play good football -Rush offense and defense rankings is a step in the right direction, though Coach is not a big stats guy -We're going to build this program by developing -Coach Harbaugh's blueprint is completely in-line with how Coach Rhule wants to build Nebraska -Heinrich needs to stop being something he's not: "if the plays not there, don't make a bad play worse" -Just because you win doesn't mean theres not the same issues if you lost -Tailbacks did a good job -Bryce Benhart is playing well -OL has to learn a lot when the option is thrown in the mix -Tommi Hill is explosive, "I just think when you have good players, you use them" -Tommi Hill is currently playing receiver, cornerback, and kick returner -Have to be content with 2-3 yard runs vs. Michigan. There won't be gaping holes -DLine is playing with more extension, getting off blocks, communication -Teddy Prochazka has a role, Turner Corcoran is still the starter -This week, FB "Lindenmeyer was the guy" -Heinrich has done a good job running option, zone reads -Coach recognizes that Heinrich tends to keep the ball more often than pitching -"It's really great when you have guys that aren't sensitive" when talking about HH -Going to keep playing Tristan Alvano until he gets comfortable -Important for players to understand "we love it when people love us" -"Make everything football and things will work out for you" -Coach shows the team every Kobe Bryant video -QB situation is unique, because they have two QB's that couldn't finish a game -J.J. McCarthy has tremendous protection, and operates on time, he's got poise. -Blake Corum has elite burst, tough to tackle -Going to have to rotate lots of guys at LB, especially if Luke Reimer is out -Modern day "protect your kids from going through hard things" is not good -"If I could make them all turn off their social-media mentions, I would, but I can't" -Guys need to just play in the moment, stop thinking ahead -Coach Rhule struggles with that too, mentions anxiety -"Mental toughness is not beating players down, it's by lifting" #GBR
