Basketball Opening Night with Husker Hoops provides first look at Hoiberg's new team

Took in the action of Opening Night with Husker Hoops tonight inside Pinnacle Bank Arena. Here are a few quick observations, as well as some good stuff from earlier this week.

No, I didn't stay for DDG.

Volleyball Game Thread FINAL: No. 2 Nebraska 3, No. 17 Purdue 2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 15-12)

No. 2 Nebraska begins its four-game road trip tonight with a matchup at No. 17 Purdue. It's a big stretch in the Huskers' season as this young team embraks on its first sustained road trip in the conference with back-to-back games.

Despite some big losses — especially at setter — Purdue returns another top-20 caliber squad including the dynamic duo of outside hitters in 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Eva Hudson and 2023 No. 1 overall recruit Chloe Chicoine. A test for the defense tonight in a big way.

Per Lauren Cook West on the Huskers' Radio Network, Ally Batenhorst will make her fourth-straight start after beating out Lindsay Krause on merit this week in practice. Expect to see her in the lineup as the second outside hitter. Here's the weeknd preview including a look at Indiana who NU plays tomorrow:

Assistant coach and program legend Jordan Larson made her return to Lincoln after being away helping the U.S. National Team clinch its 11th straight Olympic berth for the 2024 Paris Olympics. She aided the U.S. to a 6-1 record in Poland to lock up its spot. Here's my feature on Larson's return:

Plus, John Cook's WWL from this week including his thoughts on the return of Larson and the Huskers' first Big Ten road trip:

Basketball Nebrasketball visitors

It's a big weekend for the Nebraska men's basketball team as it's scheduled to host eight recruits this weekend.

>> The only official visitor is Nick Janowski, a 6-foot-4 four-star guard in the Class of 2024 from Wisconsin. He verbally committed to the Huskers in April.

The rest of the unofficial visitors include:

>> Noah Boyed: 7-foot, 240-pound center who spent his first two seasons of college basketball at McCook Community College. He averaged 10.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season as a redshirt freshman while shooting 56.7 percent from the field. He scored in double figures 19 times and had a season-high 21 points against then-No. 5 College of Southern Idaho. He's from Castries, St. Lucia, an island in the Caribbean Sea. He's visited Cal already.

>> Kash Polk: 6-9 wing in the Class of 2025 who plays at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas. He's announced offers from Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Rice.

>> Jalen Wilson: 6-7, 200-pound forward in the Class of 2025 out of Benilde-St. Margaret's in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

>> Braden Frager: 6-6, 210-pound forward in the Class of 2025 out of Lincoln (Neb.) Southwest. Nebraska, Creighton, Iowa State and Northwestern have offered. He also visited the Huskers during the weekend of the NIU football game.

>> A’mare Bynum: 6-8, 215-pound four-star forward in the Class of 2025 out of Omaha (Neb.) Bryan. Nebraska, Iowa, Creighton, Iowa State, Tennessee and others have offered.

>> TJ Stuttley: 6-4, 175-pound four-star guard in the Class of 2025 out of Link Academy in Branson, Missouri.

>> Bryson Bahl: Husker softball player Jordy Bahl's younger brother, who's a 6-4, 175-pound guard in the Class of 2025 out of Papillion La Vista South.

>> Polk, Bahl, Frager and Janowski will be at the Opening Night event tonight.

Nebraska-Michigan Prediction Thread

Here we go. Harbaugh’s #2 Wolverines coming to Lincoln for a 2:30 midday kick.

I’ve shifted from good feelings to bad feelings about this one. I like our defense keeping us in the game, but I have a hunch that the Michigan DL is going to push around our OL. Hope I’m wrong.

With the -18 Michigan spread and O/U of 42.5, I’ll take the under.

Random fact of the day

Haarberg’s comp% is really bad… even accounting for drops.

BUT!!!…. He’s thrown 4 TDs and 0 INTs in barely 2.5 games and is 2-0 as a starter.

In 2020, Adrian Martinez had an excellent comp% (remember screens inflate %), but during 7 games played, he threw 4 TDs with 3 INTs… with a 2-5 record.

QB needs a team, but….
that’s some crazy sh*t.

just sayin
