Something that occurred to me about the OL this morning

In 2021, we took every team down to the wire, including tOSU and Michigan. Our OL, while not stellar, was way better than it is now.

3 of the 5 guys who started for us on Saturday started for us in 2021 (Corcoran, Piper, and Benhart). The other 2 in 2021 were Jurgens and Sichterman.

Clearly, Jurgens was good enough to play in the NFL, but it would be a stretch to say that Sichterman is as good as Nouili.

It's hard to believe that the difference between scoring 29 points and having 431 yards against Michigan in 2021 to what we saw this Saturday is because of Jurgens.

To this point, Benhart and Piper seem to be better than they were in 2021, Nouili is probably better than Sichterman, and Scott is not as good as Jurgens, but not that bad.

I remember the best offensive performance on the last 5 years for Nebraska, 2021 Northwestern. The biggest change for that game was replacing Corcoran at LT with Freshman Teddy. I know they're being really protective of Teddy, but this change needs to happen again soon. Corcoran needs to be in a 3 man rotation with the guards and never play tackle again.

It's just sad that 3 guys have so much experience and so little improvement to show for it.

Volleyball What We Learned: John Cook talks past weekend, emotional match at Michigan

Great stuff from John Cook today who recapped an intense weekend and previews an emotional match upcoming at Michigan. Hit the link.

Defense minus 2

With Reimer and Singleton out for Illinois, the defense will not be as good as it was in the first four games. Getting Cam L. back will help, but to win this game, the offense will have to do more to make up for the losses on defense. So we'll see.
Winning this game will probably lead to a happy ending to our season, losing it.....well, who knows?

Caleb Williams selecting his team.

This is more about what does the shift of power look like in the next 5-10 years if NIL stays the same? Are the 1-5 picks going to be more selective about the team that drafts them now if they’re making enough money to “dodge” teams in the draft? When does the NFL get involved to lobby some change within the NCAA?

Reason for not being apathetic right now

As I posted in another thread, as ugly as the Michigan game was it did not tell us anything we did not already know. Very, very few people thought we would beat Michigan this year. This game did not therefore tell us anything new. Michigan is better than we are. But we knew that. So personally I have just shaken the dust of that game off of my shoes and am setting my sights on the rest of the season.

We have seven games ahead of us all of which are winnable. I am not saying we will win them all. We probably won't. But assuming we get some guys healthy (Reimer, Lenhardt, Singleton, Teddy, Sims) there is not a team left on our roster that we cannot beat if we get a few breaks for a change. The Big Ten West is an absolute dumpster fire of awfulness this year. in fact, the only team that really scares me on our schedule is from the East -- Maryland. But even they are not world beaters and the game is in Lincoln.

Believe it or not we have a chance to go 9-3 this year and with a bowl win we could end up 10-3. And even if we do not do that we can end up 8-5 or 9-4.

Rhule is not going anywhere. So now is not the time to give up on this season and to check out. There is still a ton of things to play for and we need to start building for the future.

Forget Michigan. Time to turn our attention forward. Let's go beat the snot out fat Biliema and pound Illinois into the turf.

Football PFF Snap counts and grades from Nebraska's 45-7 loss to No. 2 Michigan

Here are the PFF snap counts and grades from Nebraska's 45-7 loss to No. 2 Michigan Saturday afternoon in Lincoln. Pretty much what you'd expect.

Defense:

Offense:

Emptying Stadium and Recruiting

The Empty Stadium at the end of the game does not help in Recruiting Players nor retaining Commitments already in hand.

Nor retaining the Players already on the team.

An Emptying Stadium has an impact. And not a good one.

The Recruits saw a full stadium of Fans quit on their team, and get up and walk out, before the game was over.

That will be be the most memorable Visual of Nebraska Football each recruit will have.

It makes the rebuilding process for the Head Coach and Staff even more difficult.

Saturday was a sad day for Nebraska football and Memorial Stadium. For larger reasons than the result of the game.

It starts and ends with above average line play

With every new coaching staff I have hoped that they would make it priority number one to get us back to dominant line play. Hasn't happened yet. Rhule is one year in so obviously it is too earl to tell. He has said all the right things about how important line play is so I'm more hopeful then probably any time in the last 20 years. It has to get better. There is no other way. Period!!!
