Smothers

I really like the kid as a person and his commitment to the Huskers despite everything.

But… Now more than ever there’s an elephant in the room.

I’m a little surprised he hasn’t transferred to an option school or made the transition to WR.

Dude is an athlete, but maybe just content to always be a backup and get an education?

In HS he broke Bo Jackson’s touchdown record, so you can’t do that without being a good football player, but not necessarily projects to a QB in college.

What does he do? I applaud the kids loyalty but what’s he waiting for?

Recruiting First confirmed Matt Rhule official visitor...

2023 Texas four-star defensive end Princewill Umanmielen confirmed to me that he will be taking an official visit to Nebraska.

New defensive line coach Terrance Knighton has already made a strong impression on him. Interestingly enough is from the same high school as Ochaun Mathis. Matt Rhule also has a connection to his high school coach since he's recruited other players from the school during his time at Baylor. That includes Umanmielen's older brother who did not pick Baylor in the end.

Once I know the date for the official visit, I'll update this and add it to the official visits date list. Just wanted to pass this along quickly.

[UPDATE: VISIT IS SET FOR DEC. 10 WEEKEND]

Basketball Alexis Markowski named Big Ten Player of the Week

6-foot-3 sophomore center Alexis Markowski was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after her performance in a 66-39 win over Wyoming Sunday afternoon. The Lincoln native produced her fifth double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds as well as a career-high matching three blocks.

Markowski was extremely efficient going 9-of-14 from the field and 4-for-5 from three-point land. Her defense was also stellar as she held 2021-2022 Mountain West Freshman of the Year Allyson Fertig to four points and five rebounds.

The Husker face No. 20 Kansas on Wednesday with first tip set for 6 p.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Recruiting Late 2023 OL/DL offer to watch

Nebraska has a new lineman offer out in South Dakota. Jason Maciejczak was offered by the staff and he announced it on Friday.

Maciejczak was pumped about the offer and gave me a little insight into why this offer came so late.

"It was crazy, Maciejczak said. "They recruited me with Frost but Coach Raiola liked me and still does but Frost didn’t seem to want to offer me so I swept it under the table and committed to UND. Last night Coach Omar [Hales] called me and said 'I don't know what happened with Frost but you need to be a Cornhusker' so I’m still exploring it. It blew my mind to be honest."

He's not an early enrollee because he is playing basketball and a three-time runner up in shot and doesn't want to miss those activities this spring. The lineman wants to get down to Lincoln this weekend to meet the coaches in person but there is currently a blizzard in South Dakota keeping him from traveling.

This is one to keep an eye on as we get close to early signing day.
