Football Turning Point: The sequence that jump-started first win of the Rhule Era

Here's this week's Turning Point.

Couldn't pick every play from Tony White's defense (lol), so this was a bit harder. But I'm happy with where I landed.

What teams are actually good?

I watched a lot of ball yesterday and I honestly don’t know who the top 4 teams are this year. Georgia’s qb has major issues, Bama looks totally lost, Ohio St qb has issues, Michigan doesn’t seem too great. I was thinking Texas but obviously Bama stinks. Florida State looked terrible and lost their qb. Is it finally the year a Pac12 team makes some noise?. I can’t go there because they simply don’t play defense at all in that conference. Notre Dame actually looks very good and they have a good qb. As of right now, here’s my top 4 and would love to hear some discussion:
1). Texas (only team with a good road win)
2). Notre Dame (looks the best)
3). USC (best quarterback but zero defense)
4). Georgia (just because they’re back to back champs)

North Texas had over 560 yards of total offense……

Against Louisiana Tech and won 40-37. North Texas rushed for 250 yards, can see the exact same game plan next week but wouldn’t mind the backs running a little more next week and Haarberg at a little less, save a little wear and tear but Ervin/Grant is a nice duo, can see 25-30 Carries between them.

I like getting Haarberg out on the naked boots, helps our oline out as they are not great on pass pro when our QBs sit in the pocket for too long.

Football Offense & Defense Snaps Counts and Grades for Nebraska's win over Northern Illinois

Snaps counts and grades from the Huskers' Saturday night win over Northern Illinois. Javin Wright a big standout on the defensive side while Haarberg had the best grade of any QB performance this season.

Pass the ball!

I know that a lot of you were upset with our offensive coordinator for throwing the ball too much… I agree in part, in that, if you run the ball, you wear them down. I was OK with the extra passing yesterday, because we need to see what we had in live games with HH. Can he make those throws when we need them? You have to practice that too, and not just in practice, but in games. We had the game in control, for the most part, thanks to our defense. The extra passing Was helpful so that HH can be more confident as well. Just my thoughts.

Areas to Improve

Blocking the flyers on punt return. We gave up some massive yardage on whiff blocking.

Oline understanding the play and initial blocking assignment. Poor presnap and pulling angles. Qb should have been knocked out of the game.

Hated the unnecessary. Grant could have been charged after that great physical run for taunting. Newsom was already called for unsportsmanlike in his sword business. Did the sword business again at least twice this game. So that obviously didn’t resonate.

Coaches challenge was foolish given the clock and yardage. That has to change.

We are a team going forward that will only win with great execution and better play calling given the personal. I feel sorry for the oc. He is pretty hand strung. Think the effort is there.
