Where you at now?

I don't think we will see Nebraska return to national prominess , and seriously doubt we will ever win the big

I wish the players and coaches well , but a reality check finds me less involved from here forward

The vast majority of D1 schools have no chance at winning a title, and I don't put NU in that category. For some reason, most of those schools still sell tickets to their games.

You are the asshat claiming you don't care. So just move along and do something else. I have no idea why you are even here if that is your little whining-baby stance. You said it, because you wanted to be another idiot that has decided the program is doomed after 1 damn game. You can claim you didn't want blo, but your whining ass wasn't here when he was pissing his pants and telling us to f off. Fitting your spineless ilk is here now. So yes, move along.
Wow! Who peed in your coffee today?

Think this thread is a perfect example of how short sighted Pelini supporters are. Most in favor of the difficult decision to change coaches gave Pelini 7 years. One game and Riley is a bad hire. How predictable.

It is possible to have wanted Bo fired and still be unhappy with the new hire.

I fall in to this group, but I am not willing to throw the baby out with the bath water after 1 game. Riley has had a history or having some trip ups in the first game of the season at OSU. That is the great thing about sports there is always a next game.

Yes. But...1. Even if you are/were unhappy with the Riley hire the staff needs to be given adequate time. 2. Some(Bolievers) seem to think if Riley fails it means we should not have fired Bo. Bo needed to be let go..it was the right decision. In time we will know if Eichorst made a good hire or not.

Unhappy is one thing. Conclusion and declaration after one game is another.

Unhappy or unease with Riley's hire is understandable. I would also call you rational if you gave Riley time to implement his program, recruit players to his system, and create the culture of the program while having all of the resources that the University of Nebraska offers before concluding whether or not Riley was a poor hire. Pelini was given that window and Riley should get similar.

Drawing this conclusion after one game is irrational and a weak attempt at retribution.

Now? It's been that way for quite some time.

Ya, that's true. McNeese, SDSU, Wyoming, etc. were all underdogs in games that were way to close. But, we won those games with a coaching staff considered bumbling idiots. The "but now" comment applied to me, I pinned my hopes on beating the teams we were supposed to beat, especially at home in front of 90,000 people all wearing red. Silly me. Are the Purdue, Rutgers, Illinois games coin flips now?

Is BYU a better team. I suppose they would be one of the better teams in the mountain west conference (but not the best) for whatever that's worth. We were favored by a TD roughly, and we lost at home. People can critique the players and put the loss on lack of talent, but we didn't look prepared for what BYU was bringing to the game. I know this is an embellishment, but are we only practicing passing plays in practice. We threw the ball over 30 times in the first half. Holy crap. I know it was the first game, but it's frustrating.

Did we hire the next Pete Carroll or the next Charlie Weis. Time will tell on that, and the verdict is still out. I really wish we would've won this game, just like everybody else.

Where are these phantom people that don't want to give Riley any more time? Where are these people who have declared Mike Riley needs to go? Has there been anyone who said they want Bo back? I am not in this camp...and frankly don't see others there. I saw a lot of good things from the staff yesterday. Poise was really good. Tommy has improved a ton. I thought the offensive scheme was way better than I had imagined. I actually liked the overall play of the dline. The best part of the game was our wideouts. Westerkamp and Reilly were excellent.

However, if I mention the negatives of the staff from Saturday, I will get jumped all over and told that our players stink.

You are blind then. I saw multiple users call for Riley's head and multiple "new" screen names pop up after the completion of the BYU. Also...how many times have we heard.."we fired a 9 win coach for a coach that etc etc etc." Yes we did fire a 9 win coach...and he needed to be fired. Whether or not Riley is a success or not doesn't change the fact that we were going nowhere with Bo.

What a douche-tastic post.

Where am I at? I'm firmly behind the University of Nebraska football program which is in good hands with Riley and his staff.

GTFO.

Read the OP, that'd be a good start.
I never saw him call for Riley's head. He said he doesn't want Bo back. He thinks Riley's a bad hire but never said anything about the fact he shouldn't have more time. I read the post.

Find multiple people calling for Riley's head...not people who are displeased...not people saying, "I told you so"...people calling for Riley's head after game one. You guys are making up this fantasy to distract from rational discussion of the coaching performance.

I don't need to dirty work for you....if you would like feel free to speak with the MODS who deleted and banned quite a few folks for moronic posts.

Why would I do that? The usual contingent is coming up with this crazy fantasy land where they keep railing against people who want Riley fired. Once again...it is simply a distraction to rational discussion about the coaching job on Saturday.

Riley will get all the time he needs to show his stuff good or bad - I also believe his learning that some losses and play are not acceptavble with fans is a good thing - this was not the case at OSU.

There plenty of good things but the two areas I have most concern with are strategic

1. Turning this team into a pass first offense right out of the gate is stupid and they did just that -
2. Banker has had real problems with passing teams in the last 4 years or so - So what is the game plan " give receivers a large cushion do not blitz and hope a Heisman candidate cannot complete simple passes" how dumb is this for this game.

The last issue is that the defense was not coached properly on prevent defense did they not teach gangwish to keep the qb in the pocket - this kid would kill for his team if he had been taught this he would have done it - Instead he loses contain tyhey complete the hail mary, win the game and on top of it gangwish is now hurt - This was bad coaching

My last bitch was special teams - what in the heck is Read doing counting his loot? instead of coaching these kids very very bad

41 passes, 37 runs.

are you implying that this offense has not made a significant shift towards passing vs running?

What if the staff has clearly observed that our OL can't consistently run block and they are better at pass blocking? This coupled with an average stable of backs and a QB who has improved.

We have been a decent running team for some years now - we have also recruited pretty well at RB and all of the sudden we suck because Amer is gone - sorry dont buy it

Where did this Oline get all of this expertise at pass blocking in recent history that has been a real weak spot.

I think Riley did a good job of improving TA and also the pass blocking to a smaller extent - however he did a poor job of co0aching a power run game that could have won this game for us

What would you say is in the Offensive Line cupboard with regard to run blockers and pass blockers? What was the quality of the technique coaching these guys have received prior to regime change?

what really irked me, was Reeves high snapping every single play.. and that chongo guy looked completely lost standing around with his hands in his pockets

No. Just informing uneducated fans that we ran the ball 37 times. I know facts are tough for some to understand. I will give you some leeway as one of the biggest bloners here. You just can't wait to bitch, even after 1 game.

Not to mention their thug center bobbing his head before every single snap.

agree, it was fairly balanced, and most of those screens could be counted more as running plays

Statistically speaking, a sack is considered a rushing play. A broken pass play with a scramble for yardage is considered a rushing play.

So if my count is right, that's 5 more passing plays - 5 less rushing plays. I suppose if someone wanted to argue purely stats, fine, it was fairly balanced. In actuality, not so balanced.

HTO and all the rest of you that acted like I was a fool for calling MR a bad hire.
What do you think spinner is implying then? Just because he isn't coming out and saying, "Mike Riley needs to be fired now" verbatim doesn't mean he doesn't want that.

can you actually respond to at least one thread without some type of childish insult - uncalled for and makes youi look a little silly

I agree we need to establish a strong run game...if we can. But you need to keep in mind quite a few or our passing plays this past Saturday was just an extension of the run game. It will be very interesting to see how we fare against Miami in that regard. BYU is probably the most aggressive team defensively we will face all year in regards to blitzing so I think we may have better luck against Miami. Atleast I hope so.

No. Not when it is obvious you hold your feelings for Blo above your supposed fandom. You can go back in your hole that you were in before the 1st game of a new regime. Pathetic.

That's exactly right. For the last two years Ameer masked a very average offensive line because he is a stud. One pre-season game in the NFL and he has already shown his agility and acceleration is good enough to make professionals look silly.

Recruited well? How about we talk about these guys as college athletes. We don't need to resort to their Rivals ranking at this point. Cross has never been great. Newby has never been great. Taylor has clearly never been the same since the broken leg - he's a non factor at this point. Jury is still out on Wilbon. In case this isn't enough evidence check the stat line from the BYU game - we don't have an offensive line that run blocks well.

Expertise at pass blocking - who said that? I said that the coaches may have decided, based on fall camp, that our line is more consistent at pass blocking.

You're grasping at straws because you don't know what you are talking about.

Don't bother to point out to the uneducated that BYU had more top 100, and top 250 kids play on Saturday. That doesn't fit their idiotic claims that BYU is a terrible team, and that Bo was recruiting well. It is absolutely staggering how these guys don't know how much they are speaking out of both sides of their mouths. #boom

Then the staff clearly doesn't know crap because we weren't good at any blocking. BYU's d-line owned our o-line.

One single pass batted down and we're probably not having this discussion right now. There were plenty who didn't even count BYU as a gimmie yet we play a game we should have won and suddenly the wheels are coming off because BYU wasn't some push over gimmie game.

Sorry that Riley didn't get to start his career at Nebraska with the pushovers that Solich, Callahan and Pelini did but you play the hand that you're delt and Riley showed that his team was capable of winning that game. His team lost on a last second prayer against a good football program, he didn't need a last second prayer to beat doormats.

You're the one that clearly doesn't know crap.

A staff can observe that the line is better at run blocking, and, we can get handled by a better DL. The two are not mutually exclusive.
