OT. Anyone fight with spouse about money?

Tampa - you can call me a moron all you want, I paid PMI on my first house and never again because I had a down payment that eliminated that need. Yes - taxes and insurance will be less on less expensive homes.

Ask Easy123 if his first house was in the top location and the square footage? I guarantee you that is a sacrifice few in this generation would make now.
Our first home was enough to comfortably fit 4 of us in. Its the same home I'm in 39 years later. It's what we could afford.

Find me a 200k house in Tampa that’s in a safe area.. go!!
So we are the same age - came up at the same time and had similar opportunities. The only difference I can see at this point is that I never thought I was a victim of the times.

A couple of things. My first home was in a small crappy town and we paid $96k. I drove a car under $10k for longer than I needed to.

That’s my point above - move outside of Tampa, find an area that may be middle of the road on safety. All those are sacrifices.

You do you … I’m only going to call out things like “I can’t”, “don’t listen to boomers”, “it’s impossible” … etc.

I know this guy who works a job like other guys, and support his kids like millions and billions of men before him and he got married to a woman he professed to love, probably drives a 50k-60k truck, spends 10k on hunting, fishing, and other exploits a year...might spend a couple thousand on alcohol and tobacco but inflation is real bad so he tells his wife he needs to monitor her spending. He doesn't like the answer he gets so he goes on a public message board full of degenerates, and divorcees, and perverts, and probably worse to complain about her in the hopes that..... Probably should have said talk to a therapist then your wife.
Iowa sucks

So couldn’t find s a house for $200k in Tampa?

My parents paid 18 %.. got a brand new house for $75k. Am I going to see $75k brand new houses anytime soon?
I don’t know what Tampa prices are for new builds but the average homes I help build around small town NE. 3 bed 3 bath. 400-550k now. I laugh and cry at the thought of someday getting to build my country cottage!

Exactly! These guys don’t have a grip on reality. Good luck my man.. keep saving

I have 2 siblings. Both older. Seem to be better off financially than myself, one is a business owner and the other married a medical professional. What started my rant in the original post is that My wife feels like we can afford to have and do some of the things my siblings get to as well as one of her siblings but I’m a person who likes to be planned out and diligent with our money. I know that while we are doing ok to cover our life expenses, that 5k vacations aren’t in the cards for us at this time in life. It can be hard for her to not get to do and experience some things she would really enjoy but it always comes back to that it’s not in the budget.

We are both teachers and hope to have her maxed out on the salary as soon as she gets completed with her 2nd masters, im trying to complete my first by the paying for school as we go, not sure if you know but graduate credits are about 3 times the money as undergrads. Really hoping in a few years we can really up our income and this will mitigate our problems as I intend to keep my spending habits the same.
Bro...just do UNK online...fast and cheap (somewhat)

Actually it was my argument. I don’t know why boomers have a hard time admitting they had it made.. so many generations after you will have to pick up the bill.. we’ll see if you locust take out social security as well
Surprise!! Social Security could collapse tomorrow and I wouldn't give one fcvk.
I never grew up with any sense of entitlement.

And I didn't begrudge the fact that my elders paid nothing for the things they acquired.
You have a real small man mentality. The whole world is against you.

So you call me a moron. Then you refer to me as a locust. Soon you're gonna piss me off and then we can get after it.

I don't take shit from people like you.

Ask your folks what they made at the time of their purchase.
Only my dad worked.. was a cop. They easily got by. My wife and I have great jobs and can’t afford a median priced home.

My parents can admit that had it made as boomers.. not sure why you can’t.

I live in an "okay" west Omaha neighborhood. OPS schools (sadly, and basically all cookie-cutter homes built about 20 years ago.

To buy a play in my neighborhood...3 bed 2 bath, typical split level, 1400 sqft...you are gonna have to pay over 225K. Now, you toss in 6% interest rate, you toss in even one car payment of 300 a month and day care of over 1000.

You are looking at 2,800-3000 a month just for those 3 bills.

Brutal

Hey Red, I'll address your post in a bit. I have this problem brewing down in Tampa.

Not complaining just stating facts. My 180k mortgage and 2 kids in daycare is 2900. So I would argue that your estimate is low. I got mine locked in at 3%

Yeah the daycare is brutal. Another expense the boomers didn’t have to worry about. They could easily get by on one income if needed.

Actually, I MADE IT. I would have been a wealthy man in ANY FCUKING GENERATION. Want me to give you an example?
I’m really touching a nerve .. you know you boomers had it made .. just admit it and move on or use more all caps and yell at your computer some more

You’re touching a nerve because you are off base. I think it’s laughable that you call people morons and say they are out of touch and don’t know what they are talking about when they have built massive net worth’s from nothing (boomer and people your age).

So rather than condemn people for perceived slights - maybe listen to them and don’t discount their advice.

But if you don’t - it doesn’t impact me one bit. You keep doing you- sounds like it’s really working for you.

I feel for you. I built one of those in 2004. $500 down, $1,018 PITI, 30 year note at 6 and 1/8% for $104,000. It was OK. Price was stagnant for YEARS. Finally appreciated around 2017. Sold for $165,000. Plowed that into a custom build, 3800 fsf and 900 unfinished on 2 acres for $325,000. Refinanced twice in the first year until settling at 3 and a quarter. Fast forward 5 years and its worth $600,000, but my PITI is locked in at $2,054. Crazy world. We unknowingly timed it just right. Can’t move with rates as they are, but fortunately this is our last home until they carry me out feet first.

Yeah I got your advice.. go live in a trailer park and pretend you’re happy .. I think we’ll pass but thanks though
here you go tampa

$1600/month with 10% down not counting taxes.

You're the little man that started with the derogatory comments. I know we're in the "Anyone fight with your spouse"....thread, but I'm not your spouse, so go argue with her.

My point of the capitalization was for emphasis. Some guys make it happen, and other guys make excuses.

I tell my wife we can’t afford to move even if we wanted to, shit, I’d be paying close to 3k a month just live in our home with interest rates now and having to pay for its actual value.
Buying right now would be a nightmare and honestly, starting to look and planning to move, with that stress added in to the stress you have now...BOOM.

So no $200k ??

Are taxes optional ??

So monthly payment if we put 20% down is over $2,500 a month.

Careful.. poster that can count to three will think this is an excuse

You’re very insecure about my boomer comments. Everyone knows it’s true.. you got lucky and you’re suffering from imposter syndrome..
