To me, there’s not one play that embodies this team more than

DR sliding 2 yards short of a 1st down on 3rd and whatever…Tommi Hill’s lack of effort in tackling on the Trojan’s TD is a close 2nd…to me, this is culture more than anything…not laying it all on the line when you need a play…DR’s more concerned about staying healthy for his next team vs helping his current one win…if you’re an OL, RB or WR and you see that from your field general, you’re going to follow suit…it’s a trickle down of not giving a shit

Football Hollywood Homecoming: Ceyair Wright has "game of his life" in return to USC

Cue up the comments:
– “Who cares?”
– “Doesn’t matter, Nebraska lost.”
– “Wasted a guy’s best game because all the other guys sucked.”

Look, I get it. But I’m shouting out Ceyair Wright and the “game of his life in his former house” that the born-and-raised L.A. native – who spent three years at USC and played his HS ball 4.5 miles down the street – experienced on Saturday.

Why? Because it was awesome.

Football Postgame Notes: Nebraska at USC

Postgame Notes: Nebraska at USC

- With the loss, Nebraska falls to 0-5-1 all-time against USC

- Nebraska cornerback Ceyair Wright opened the scoring with a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter. It marked Wright's second interception of the season (also vs. Rutgers) and the third of his college career. Wright played the last two seasons at USC.

- Wright's interception for a touchdown was Nebraska's third pick-6 of the season, joining a Tommi Hill TD against Colorado and John Bullock's pick-6 at Purdue. The three interceptions for touchdowns are the most for Nebraska since the Huskers had four interceptions for touchdowns in 2013

- Wright also blocked a field goal in the fourth quarter. The block was the first of Wright's career and was Nebraska's second blocked field goal of the season (also vs. Colorado)

- Running back Emmett Johnson caught a 29-yard touchdown in the second quarter, marking his first career receiving touchdown. Overall, it was Johnson's second touchdown of the season and fourth of his career.

- Jacory Barney Jr. caught two passes to increase his season total to 40, tying a Nebraska record for receptions by a true freshman. Barney matched the 40 receptions by Wan'Dale Robinson in 2019.

- Defensive lineman Ty Robinson had a 10-yard sack in the third quarter and forced a fumble on the play leading to a Nebraska field goal. The sack increased Robinson's team-leading total to 6.0 sacks and 10 TFL.

- Placekicker John Hohl connected on field goals of 29 and 30 yards, both in the third quarter. Hohl has made his last five field goals.

- Senior rover Isaac Gifford had six tackles in the game to increase his career total to 226, moving him into a tie for third place in career tackles among Husker defensive backs

- Senior OT Bryce Benhart and senior DL Ty Robinson both played in their 57th career game today, setting a Nebraska record for games played. The previous record was held by Cameron Meredith who played in 56 games from 2008 to 2012

- Benhart made his 51st career start in today's game, moving him within two starts of the Nebraska record for career starts

- Today's game captains were Robinson, WR Jahmal Banks, CB Marques Buford Jr. and DE Jimari Butler

Raiola

Ok, I get it. He's a 5 star QB and he doesn't play defense (which is another topic). But let's look at this game and his season performance.
USC didn't have much of any pass rush. We had one blown block sack given up. The OL which is always trashed on here was controlling the line for the most part.
And yes, our receivers aren't elite. But they were getting open many times and Raiola just didn't throw their way. He throws frequently into tight coverage as if he just hopes for either a contested catch or a penalty. Why? We should have had at least one more TD if he bothered to look to the left and hit the wide open guy.
I bought into the hype. I thought he was a Trevor Lawrence and we would win now. But even Lawrence can run and plays with a determined edge. I don't see that right now from Raiola. He looks nonchalant.
I would have benched him. I think his development requires it. I think we need more competition in the QB room. Everyone needs to fear for their job. Period.

More changes needed

Frankly, I’m done with Tony White. I think he’d be good in the Big 12 but he doesn’t have what it takes to make it in this league. His defenses are defined by not being able to get off the field on 3rd down and not being able to get a stop when it matters. I just knew SC was going to drive down the field, kill the clock, and score and that’s exactly what happened.

What do our WR and RB coaches do? These coaches need to go also.

I don’t think we can get rid of Raiola at OL but he needs to go also.

Matt Rhule is horrible at clock mgmt. It’s like he’s drunk.

To the curse

Just from 1995 season

In the 1995 season, the Nebraska Cornhuskers scored an average of 53.2 points per game while allowing only 14.5 points, resulting in an average margin of victory of 38.7 points.

This is why we are losing all the close games.

Now i jest but Nebraska won an insane amount of games throughout the 90’s and this was just the 95 season

Football Gods of the past getting even

Football Idle for Saturday, Rhule says this is "a week of introspection"

There was a lot from Rhule today, here's a rundown:

> "This week is a week of introspection," the coach said
> Rhule is bringing in outside sources to take a look at the offense and defense
> "I think it's really, really important, though, that our players take accountability in it as well, right?" Rhule wants the players to make the plays that are there to make
> The inconsistency has Rhule looking within himself to find answers
> "There's nothing I won't do" to get Nebraska over the hump

Thud

We could yet achieve dead last place in two weeks with a little help. That would be an NCAA first. Finishing in 18th place. Never done before I’m sure.

There can’t possibly be another fan base as loyal (or dumb) as us in either pro or college football. The Coliseum located in mammoth Los Angeles had thousands of empty seats, which would be expected anywhere but in Lincoln given the two teams playing. Yet there were tons of NU fans at that meaningless game. Oh yeah, that’s what I think of the hallowed search for 6 wins. Meaningless.

Out here in sunny Los Angeles for Nebraska-USC (aka the Sword Fight of Disarray). If you tap the attached photos, they should hopefully show up.

Matchup
Records:
Nebraska (5-4 overall, 2-4 Big Ten) at USC (4-5, 2-5)
Time: 3 p.m. CT / 1 p.m. PT
Spread: USC -7
O/U: 50.5
TV: FOX
Streaming: Fox Sports App
Listen: Huskers Radio Network (LINK)
>> Huskers are 1-2 on the road, 4-2 at home
>> Trojans 3-1 at home, 0-4 on the road
>> Betting line has moved two full points, opened at USC -9 but is -7 two hours before kickoff

Predictions: Players of the Game + Final Score
Offense:
A running back, pick any running back, but I'll go with Emmett Johnson
>> In our Midseason Bold Predictions on Oct. 13, my main pick was for the Huskers to net their first 100-yard runner at RB since Anthony Grant in September 2023 (Grant was their lone 100-yard RB in 21 games under Marcus Satterfield at OC) and predicted that they would do it against USC. So, I'm running it back and sticking to it: Nebraska gets its first 100-yard RB. If it's going to be anyone, it's most likely going to be Dante Dowdell, but I'll go more outside the box and pick Emmett Johnson to finish with a career-high 18 carries for 106 yards + Dowdell gets a goal-line TD.

Defense: Marques Buford Jr.
>> It was nearly this same time two years ago (Nov. 19, 2022) when Buford went down with a devastating knee injury on what I believe was Wisconsin's second offensive play of the game. Just a gut feeling shortly before game day that he'll play well today and snag his second INT of the season with a return of 34 yards.

Final Score: Nebraska 27, USC 21
>> Why change right before kickoff? Let's hold steadfast.

Volleyball Another ho-hum sweep for Nebraska as Huskers roll over Indiana

LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team picked up its 40th straight home win with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 sweep of Indiana in front of a crowd of 8,727 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night.

Harper Murray had 10 kills, eight digs, a pair of blocks and an ace to lead the Huskers (26-1, 16-0 B1G) to their 23rd win in a row. Merritt Beason and Andi Jackson each had eight kills, with Jackson hitting .636. Rebekah Allick posted five kills and hit .455 with five blocks, and Taylor Landfair chipped in five kills. Leyla Blackwell and Lindsay Krause had four and three kills, respectively, in the third set.

Bergen Reilly had 35 assists, seven digs, three blocks and two kills, as the Huskers hit .324 in the match.

Lexi Rodriguez had a match-high 15 digs to help Nebraska hold Indiana (12-14, 5-11 B1G) to a .056 hitting percentage.

Nebraska had three aces and five service errors, while Indiana had one ace and five service errors. Kennedi Orr had a team-high 17 serve attempts, including serving a 12-0 run in the first set.

The Huskers had more kills (45-29), digs (49-43) and blocks (6-4).

Set 1: Trailing 6-5, Nebraska went on a 12-0 run with Orr serving to take a 17-6 lead. Landfair had three kills, while Allick and Reilly combined for three blocks. Two kills by Beason and one each by Allick and Murray made it 23-9, and kills by Jackson and Murray finished off a 25-12 victory. NU held Indiana to -.091 hitting in the opening set.

Set 2: The Huskers took the early lead with a 6-1 spurt that made it 10-5. Murray had a kill and an ace in that stretch. NU led 12-7 when Indiana scored a 5-0 run to tie the score at 12-12. But Beason answered with three kills and Murray added one to reclaim a 16-12 lead for the Huskers. Jackson and Murray tallied three kills to get to 21-15, and a block by Landfair and Jackson made it 23-15. A Jackson kill earned set point, and Allick put the set away, 25-17.

Set 3: Krause got NU on the board with a kill, and a 5-0 run keyed by two Murray kills and one from Jackson put NU ahead 10-5. The Huskers led 15-8 at the media timeout after kills by Jackson, Blackwell and Murray. Krause recorded a pair of kills to take the Huskers to match point at 24-18, and the Huskers won 25-19.
