Recruiting Class of 2023 early enrollees

I meant to put this together earlier but better late than never right? Here's the list of signees who plan to enroll early to participate in winter conditioning and spring football. I continue updating as I confirm more and will note when the list is final. I do know that Malachi Coleman will not enroll early. He's running track this spring at Lincoln East.

Every transfer will be in Lincoln for spring ball.

Recruiting Update on Walter Rouse/Micah Mazzccua and a prediction

The Huskers most important need this offseason is upgrading the offensive line. That's no surprise to anyone on this board and folks that watched the games last season.

As you all know Nebraska hosted two important transfer targets in the last few days. Stanford offensive tackle Walter Rouse visited Nebraska last after visiting Oklahoma and Iowa. The big man (6-6, 318) texted me earlier tonight and said that his decision is coming in a day or two. He declined to elaborate more or tip his hand but sources indicate that he is pretty torn between each of his finalists. I do not think he's made his mind up 100% yet.

Then there is former Baylor offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua. He announced that he would announce his decision on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. and he will choose between Nebraska, Auburn and Florida. A very good sign here for Nebraska is that Mazzccua extended his stay in Lincoln while on the trip, delaying his visit with Florida. He did make it to Gainesville and this feels like a two-team race between Nebraska and Florida.

I really like Nebraska's position with Mazzccua (6-5, 331) and I'm predicting him to pick Nebraska on Tuesday night. The prior connection with Rhule is there since Rhule recruited him to Baylor. The Huskers are also creating a strong presence in Philadelphia where the lineman is originally from. This would also be the second big win this offseason for offensive line coach Donovan Raiola.

SIAP:

Shevin Smith Jr. is joining the Huskers' staff as a graduate assistant defensive backs coach. Smith spent three years at Baylor both as a CB and in a role as a student assistant helping to coach the CBs. He also had an internship with the Indianapolis Colts as a DB coach in the summer of 2022, and he spent last season as a student coach at Baylor where he helped conduct pre-game drills, was responsible for defensive signals during games, was in charge of equipment and assisted with other gameday and travel operations.

Matt Rhule

When you look at how much he’s had to do since he was hired at the end of November it is truly amazing how much he has gotten done. There’s no doubt Rhule is a grinder.

- He’s had to interview and hire for 10 coaching positions on his staff. Not to mention GA’s etc.

- He’s had to interview for who knows how many back office positions for analysts, chief of staff, operations, recruiting, etc.

- He’s had to sell a house and look for a house to buy. Not to mention - figuring out the moving logistics for an entire family with working around school and everything else.

- He’s had to hit the pavement recruiting all over the country and watching countless hours of film to try to find 2023 recruits and transfers with just a few weeks window to get them signed.

- He’s had to host official visits and meet countless people at the university and learn his way around campus.

- He’s had to start to mentor and lead his new coaches and to cast the vision for 2024/2025 recruiting strategies.

- He’s had to be a dad and a husband.

I mean I don’t know about you but most people I know would have a super hard time handling that work load. I just can’t wait to see what he does when he has his feet under him, his orientation, his breath back in him where he can operate on a normal timeline with a fully filled team.

Football Nebraska officially announces three full-time staff members

Nebraska officially announces the assistant coach hires for receivers (Garret McGuire), tight ends (Bob Wager) and linebackers (Rob Dvoracek). With those three in the fold, Matt Rhule now officially has his 10-man coaching staff.

I guess I'm just cold -hearted. Buffalo Bills

Of course we all care about Damar Hamlin. Of course we all think it's terrible what happened. But now I'm hearing how the Bills don't know if they can play this weekend. What? Sorry, but I guess I'm just a cold hearted asshole. People (actually lose) loved ones everyday, yet they still go back to work. The guy had a heart attack. So do millions of other people. People who also by the way don't get paid $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to play football. Yes, all the dollar signs mean - A FRICKIN LOT!

I'm also hearing how everyone is finally not treating football players "like meat". I've heard this a lot over the past couple of days. I have NEVER thought of them that way and still don't. But ya, I do look at them as people who have chosen to play a barbaric sport and get paid very handsomely for it. Sorry, but that's the risk you take with playing this game. Everyone knows the risks these days. Everyone!

Football Billy Kemp IV transfer is now official

Basketball Nebraska can't capture momentum as Illinois leaves Lincoln with win

The Huskers had an opportunity to stack a win on top of another Tuesday night.

Didn't happen.
