Football Ball security, "consistency" will define this slow-burn Nebraska QB battle

The Huskers' QB battle will be defined by two simple things: ball security and consistency. That race has remained, and will remain, a slow burn as Jeff Sims looks for that "consistency" and Casey Thompson continues his off-field grind in the film room.

Basketball Nebrasketball hosting former Arizona guard Kerr Kriisa

I've confirmed with a source that former Arizona point guard Kerr Kriisa is visiting Lincoln today and will be here tomorrow.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard spent the past three seasons at Arizona, playing in 76 games with 70 starts. This past season Kriisa averaged 9.9 points, 5.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. He shot 37% from the field, 36% from 3 (83-227) and 76% from the free-throw line. Prior to this past season, he was named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Preseason Watch List

According to his Instagram, Kriisa is coming off a visit to West Virginia.

Football MJ Sherman, Jimari Butler form bond, compelling duo at vital "Jack" position

"If we wanna make this team great, we know that it kind of rests on our shoulders. Every great team needs a pass rush, and we feel like we can bring that to (the team).”

MJ Sherman and Jimari Butler have been building chemistry at a position Sherman believes is pivotal to getting Year 1 of the Rhule Era off to a strong start. Pretty good sign that two of the most intriguing and important players on the roster are creating that bond on and off the field this early.

Please note in the following section: The part I wrote in parenthesis is due to the fact that, when Sherman was asked who else is playing that "Jack" position, he mentioned Butler, Noonan, Demma and "Buda/Buddha." I wasn't over at Sherman's interview table. It seems most likely that he was talking about Javin Wright (6-5, 215 lbs) but I'm leaving open the possibility that he was talking about walk-on Grant Buda (6-0, 205 lbs), considering he also mentioned walk-on Demma. I want more clarity first, so we plan to ask Rhule about this at tomorrow's presser.

Those are the opportunities that White’s defense affords Sherman and the others in his position. In addition to Butler, Sherman says the Huskers also have Maverick Noonan, Korver Demma and Javin Wright who are all part of the “Jack” group. (Wright is obviously the biggest head-turning answer of that group. But there may be some confusion as to if he is practicing at that position, so we are waiting for clarity on that before we talk about that possibility.)

OT: Husker football success..

I'm probably alone on this, but is anyone else pretty much done caring if the Huskers win or not? I've been trying to get into the offseason hype, but I just find it difficult to care. I don't know if it's that there are so many new players, that it all just feels like autogenerated names type of situation?

I was thinking to myself, what would get me excited about the Huskers, my answer, nothing. They could go undefeated and win the championship, but I feel like my excitement would be eh, and it would likely dissipate quickly.

I guess the only way for me to know for sure would be for the Huskers to go out and win the National title, but we all know that we are supposed to expect a 6 win season this year. Should I just space off the Huskers until next offseason. I'm not as excited about the process, I don't like watching how films are made either.

Maybe it's more about being losers, but even the pelini years were tough. Maybe it is just more about how none of it feels "good" to me anymore. We don't play any rivalry games anymore, we don't play any teams from our region even, we are starting to see half of the roster turn over at the end of the season. I liked having guys stay at their schools for years, then I could at least know what a team is about. Now it's just randos on every team, it means less to me that way.

Maybe I was just never really a fan to begin with, but I sure tried from Callahan to Pelini.

Football Rover? Safety? Omar Brown is one to keep an eye on in Tony White's defense

Good stuff from Omar Brown on Thursday. Good kid. He's one to keep an eye on this spring and fall:

Coaching salary sliding scale

we are paying our coach just shy of what OSU is per year - our contract total value is more
and more than Harbaugh and Franklin make

after a "build" period should we expect to be elite like OSU and Michigan .. after all we are paying an elite salary
or is it tougher to win at Nebraska and we have to pay elite level salaries to get good but not elite results

are wins going to cost more at Nebraska than they do at places like OSU, Michigan and Penn St?
