OT:Nebraska (nonresident) turkey hunters

I just found out today that the nonresident turkey tags are sold out!
If you were lucky enough to get one early you are okay, and could even get 2, but for the rest of us that usually buy the tag a week before you go, we are shit outta luck.
I get emails from the Game and Parks and I never saw anything about a limit this year.
Its bs that people get 2 but everyone else is screwed.

Batting Lineup and Starting Rotation

With Anglim about to make his full return this is how I’d set the lineup for K State and Michigan. I’m assuming Anglim will at least DH against Michigan.

SS - Matthews
CF - Burnham
2nd - Anderson
LF - Swansen
1st - Columbus
C - Caron
DH- Anglim
3rd - Carey
RF - Evans

Obviously that leaves Fisher, Everitt, and Cervantes as quality pinch hitters off the bench or when Caron moves to DH and Columbus to catcher you can easily plug Fisher or Cervantes at 1st.

As far as the starting rotation I’m assuming they give Walsh the start on a limited pitch count against K State and then establish him as the Sunday starter going forward. Once that is established this is my thoughts on the rotation.

Friday - Olson
Saturday - Kaminska
Sunday - Walsh
Midweek - Brockett

Bullpen priority as follows:

Shay
Bunz
Brockett
Hawkins
Garza
Orenelas
Perry
Etc etc etc

I do feel the bullpen has slowly started showing some improvement and do feel guys like Garza have shown to flash better in that role. Brockett is likely the midweek starter so his pitch count may vary each week based on bullpen usage on the weekends.

When it is all said and done this first month and half of the season was a scheduling whirlwind and an up and down adventure to say the least. Getting back into one midweek game and normal conference games should help this team mentally I feel.

I do feel we have the pieces to make a run at the Big Ten title but ultimately it is up to the players as I’m just a fan. Either way, it should be a fun team to watch down the stretch.

Football Michigan spring game

Had fun watching Michigan's spring game from Saturday. The Wolverines are coming off back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances and began their spring ball in late February.

Who cares about which team won, right? But just so I put it in here, the Maize team beat the Blue 22-21. For those who care, I thought I'd share some thoughts on guys that caught my eye.

JJ McCarthy? Still good
Michigan's starting quarterback wore a white "no touch" jersey and only played the first half. No reason for him to be out there more than that, of course.

Both defenses got the best of the offenses during the scrimmage. It was an alright showing for McCarthy, who completed seven of his 10 pass attempts for 84 yards and one touchdown. He also threw a really bad interception where his pass sailed way over the head of his target, though I couldn't tell if McCarthy's arm was hit on his follow-through.

McCarthy is a stud, and I really liked this completion of his — a frozen rope from the opposite hash:

Alex Orji is mighty interesting

Screenshot 2023-04-02 at 10.27.41 AM.png

That's Alex Orji, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound quarterback from Sachse, Texas. Orji was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022 and he appeared in three games last season as a true freshman. I don't think Orji will win the backup job — that will likely be Indiana transfer Jack Tuttle — but, man, I had fun watching Orji run around during the scrimmage.

Orji is very athletic and brings a different dynamic to the offense when he's taking the snap. He's a powerful runner:

Orji has a ways to go as a passer from what I've read, but on Saturday he went 4-of-6 for 47 yards and one touchdown. Here are a couple of his completions, the latter of which went to tight end AJ Barner (an Indiana transfer) on a common underneath mesh concept that former Husker 'backer Ernest Hausmann got caught in the traffic with:

Speaking of Hausmann
Speaking of Hausmann, he had the most tackles of anyone in the scrimmage with eight — four solos and four assists. He's in a loaded linebacker room at Michigan, so it will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets in the fall. His strip and forced fumble of Tuttle caught my eye:

I think Josaiah Stewart is going to be a problem for Big Ten offenses
Stewart was a nice addition for the Wolverine defense from the transfer portal this offseason. The 6-2, 230-pound junior EDGE comes to Ann Arbor from Coastal Carolina, where he was a 2021 first-team All-Sun Belt selection as a freshman and a 2022 second-team pick. He set the school record for most sacks in a season with 12.5 his freshman year.

On Saturday, Stewart recorded five tackles and two for a loss, including one sack. If it were a real game, his stats would be more impressive.

Here's just one example of Stewart harassing Michigan's offensive line:

This below example was pretty fun too, and gives you an idea of what Michigan will probably do with him at times — drop him into coverage and let him read/react as a robber:

Kenneth Grant will be a big part of Michigan's interior D-line
Grant is a 6-3, 356-pound sophomore interior D-lineman who played in all 14 games as a freshman last year and had eight tackles. Power, power, power with this guy.

Grant, who finished with three tackles in the scrimmage, just bull-rushed right through sophomore left guard Andrew Gentry, a 6-7, 312-pounder, on this rep, and it impacted McCarthy's throw, which was picked off but called back due to a pass interference penalty on the defense:

Derrick Moore is another sophomore EDGE too look out for
I also enjoyed watching the 6-3, 279-pound Moore go against the Wolverine O-line. Moore, who had seven tackles and two for a loss in the scrimmage, is a former four-star recruit in the 2022 class who played in all 14 games last year and made eight tackles and two sacks.

Michigan just has EDGE guys who can play, and it seems they come in bulk. Loved this rep from Moore:

That's all I got, everyone. Hopefully someone found this interesting, even though it's not Husker related. Just had fun watching some spring football.

Basketball Jaz Shelley announces return for fifth season

The biggest offseason goal for Nebraska WBB is complete as they get Jaz Shelley back for her 5th season. The first team All-Big Ten guard will have one more season of eligibility. Fellow Australian Issie Bourne elected to not return for her 5th season earlier this month.

Huge news for the Huskers - not something other B1G teams wanted to see.

Football Spring practice No. 7 — Quick Hits from Matt Rhule

Matt Rhule met with the media following his team's seventh practice of the spring on Saturday. Here are the quick hits:

Baseball Live Thread BSB FINAL: Abilene Christian 5, Nebraska 3

Nebraska (15-8-1) is back for game two of today's doubleheader as they take on host Abilene Christian (20-6) who are amidst one of its best seasons in recent memory. They defeated Texas A&M-CC on Friday by a score of 9-7 as they look to lock up a winning weekend with a win against Nebraska.

The Huskers took down Texas A&M-CC 12-1 earlier today as ace Emmett Olson tossed six innings allowing only one run on four hits with four strikeouts while Corbin Hawkins threw two scoreless innings to close it down. Casey Burnham finished 4-for-4 with three RBI as he wound up a home run short of a cycle. Brice Matthews knocked in three runs while Max Anderson hit his seventh home run of the year.

Football Three Takeaways: Ben Scott has minor injury, Rhule evaluates live scrimmage

Matt Rhule held a 10-minute presser this afternoon. He evaluated the Huskers' first live scrimmage of the spring season, gave an updated injury report and listed some off-the-radar guys who have been impressive thus far:

Baseball Live Thread BSB FINAL: Nebraska 12, Texas A&M-CC 1

An odd weekend for the Nebraska baseball team this weekend as the Huskers (14-8-1) take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (13-14) in the first of two games this afternoon at Crutcher Scott Field on the campus of Abilene Christian. The Huskers will face the host school in game two that begins 45 minutes after this game between NU and the Islanders. Corpus Christi is looking to rebound after a 9-7 loss to Abilene Christian last night. The Islanders got out to a quick 5-1 lead in the third, but gave up six unanswered runs as the Wildcats closed out the victory. With four pitchers (three relievers) used last night for Corpus Christi, the bullpen will still be in relatively good shape, but not as good as Nebraska's.

Nebraska is coming off a 4-1 victory over North Dakota State Tuesday night as Will Walsh tossed seven innings of two-hit ball and Brice Matthews hit a three-run bomb to lift the Huskers to victory. They'll have a good shot on taking both today with co-aces Emmett Olson and Jace Kaminska both on the bump.

For game one, it's going to be LHP Emmett Olson (4-1, 3.68 ERA, 36.2 IP) vs. RHP Collin Purcell (2-1, 3.50 ERA, 36.0 IP). Here's the full series preview:
