Why did rhule,,,

Handpick simms??
Surely you can watch GT film and see the kid can’t read defenses in his third year.
I feel really duped by this. Hopeless for the season too.
He’s like Martinez all over again only worse. You just can’t fix slow blinking. Yet rhule kept telling us how smart he is. We’re paying millions for his evaluation and he gets a big F- for the most important position on the field.

I’m extremely disappointed.

O line

Bryce B. seems much improved , based on a one game sample size. The interior of the line appears decent but did have a bust or 2. Problem still continues at LT. He got beat on spin moves several times. I think they are going to have to give him help on anything other than quick hitters or screens. I did like the way the line of scrimmage seemed to move in the right direction after the snap. Hoping Teddy can be as good as a lot of people on here believe . I’ve never been as high on him as some but I’d love to be wrong on it.

I was encouraged by the game

I get all the anger and pessimism on the board this morning, although I do not share it. Perhaps it is because I had no expectations for this them over the past year and have taken the attitude of they are a 4-8 team at best until I see improvement on the field. I feel I saw that improvement last night. I anticipated the D being pretty good, the offense being abysmal, and the coaching no idea. I think all exceeded my expectations. I think this team looks like a bowl eligible team now.

This game should build the confidence of the coaches and the players. I said it during the game...Not playing to kick a field goal at the end of the half is coaching out of desperation. Two false starts inside the 5 is panic out of desperation. Coming out of this game both should feel that they are good enough to win.

The offense looks to follow in NU traditions of run the damn ball, oh and once in awhile throw it. It felt like most of the success came with mis-direction, then they went away from it completely. Sat play calling seemed eratic almost forcing something at times instead of sticking to who they are. if he learns from this game the offense can be serviceable. The passing game is a problem. The coaches must adjust the passing game to the QB's ability and the OL's ability. (quicker releases) OL played better, but were greatly helped with mis-direction in the run game. I think I saw several passing situations that MN rushed three and got pressure, so OL still has those issues. Welcome to the pine Mr. Grant. I hate to see this for him as I had hoped he would improve from last year and be a lead back. Instead Ervin and Johnson stepping up and recovering looks to be the story at RB.

I liked the way the defense played. I wasn't complaining and the announcers weren't talking about ALL of the missed tackles constantly allowing first downs and big runs. Isn't that a first in a decade? I panicked when Robinson was ejected, but it turned out to be ok. I took that as a good sign of depth...Isn't that a first in a decade? We really did stop the run against a darn good running team...Isn't that a first in a decade? We held a really accurate passer with an established run game to 13 points, one touchdown. Their touchdown came from an amazing route, with an amazing catch, with amazing accuracy. It's not like there was no defender within 20 yards because they didn't know what to do. Isn't that a first in a decade?

Special teams didn't lose the game for us...Isn't that a first in a decade. I still hate, hate hate returning kickoffs when caught inside the 20. Again doing seems like coaching and playing out of desperation. We got one great return and risked fumbles and penalty's that back this offense against it's goal line. Take the ball at the 25 and help build confidence and calm the offense down.

I hope some of my fellow Huskers are encouraged by this post and share a little bit of my new found optimism for the season. Go Big Red!

So what offseason concerns or worries were confirmed or calmed last night?

3-3-5 can't stop the run in the B1G. I think that was soundly silenced last night. It won't always be this good but 25 for 55 squashes that fear.

OL will continue to suck. Somewhat disproven, I think they will be ok except at LT, the most important spot where we have a guard playing.

Sims won't be any good. Ran a bit better than I expected, was pretty terrible as a passer.

Sims won't last the season. 19 rushes, he won't last the season taking that many hits, then again that might not be a bad thing.

DL doesn't have the needed depth. Even with Robinson ejected they looked good, Polar Bear had a great game and played a lot of snaps.

Jack LB will be a difference maker. Didn't see them make a difference at all. Pass rush was pretty anemic. Once again, high rated HS recruits that fail at top schools don't become better with a transfer. I'll take a low ranked player that proved himself in FCS over a SEC washout any day of the week.

ST will be better. Literally brought us back in the game, they made a difference, and finally in our favor.

WR depth will be an issue. Hard to tell for sure as poor as the passing game was, but losing IGC does not help the issue. A few freshmen got some snaps, they need to grow up fast.

Rhule's got a lot of work to do. Fixing the obvious mistakes from last night and also recruiting as we need a QB, LT and some Jacks.

Good surprise of the night for me was Singleton. He came to play and was great both in the pass game and stopping the run. Need to see that for this defense to continue to stop the run.

Bad surprise of the night for me was Sims, he just flat out sucked as a passer. He saw the field terribly and made bad decisions. Once again physical traits in a QB are not nearly important as the eyes and the head.

My opinion on Sims

Pro) He has the ability to run and stretch drives.

Pro) The false starts weren’t his fault.

Pro) If Grant doesn’t fumble, I may admittedly have a different tune.

Con) End of 1st half INT is something that I can’t explain. IDGAF if it’s a bad play call. Any athlete, especially ones that accept 100K in NIL, should know you F’ed an entire fan base. Yes, I can say fan base. Take our money then do that, and resort back to “ahh I’m a kid playing a sport. Nah F that. It’s a business motherFer. Quit giving the other team the ball, we want to win

Con) His best play, which was awesome to watch, was a fluke lucky play.

Con) He just might be a poor man’s Jamal Lord.

I think Rhule put his athletes out there to win the game. He has to be thinking…
-Grant, enjoy the bench, mofo
-Sims, you’re a few more INTs away from the bench
-Refs, remember what your job is - call a TD a TD, ya dumb Fs.
-Sims might make this offense avg 12 pts a game.

All in all, Grant looked like he got paid by bookies/sharps/gamblers to blow the game. Sit that mofo for the rest of the year. We DONE AG!

NFL is such a better product. We are watching 20 yr old whiners making career mistakes by the mother F’ing quarter. I can’t stand it anymore. I’m so ready for an article saying “Grant was cut” today. Put some pressure on these ****ers that pressure is for NIL money. Give that man the ball 9x. You’ll get 27 yds and a game losing fumble. I ate eating his Amigos combo
