Football Nebraska defense grew up in key moment vs Illini: "Get your ass outta here"

Good stuff from Matt Rhule following Friday's win over Illinois. He talked about how the defense showed up in big moments.

“I got in there (the huddle) a couple times, they were like, ‘Hey, we got this,’ like basically, 'Get your ass out of here',” Rhule said with a laugh.

OC Satterfield

Guy is taking a lot of heat this year from Husker fans.

Yes, I get it.

We are far from a well oiled machine, and we have looked completely inept in a large amount of drives this year. It isn't much fun to watch a good amount of time.

I like what he is doing though. It isn't easy calling plays and creating an offense for a team that can't throw the football with any amount of effectiveness, and struggles mightily to run the ball between the tackles.

We held the ball for 37 plus minutes last night, and ran the ball 49 times while holding Illinois to 21 yards rushing. We also had 10 penalties and 3 turnovers, yet we won by 13 points on the road.

Run the ball. Stuff the run. That is a good recipe for the rest of our schedule as this team gets better each week.

Volleyball Krause earns B1G Player of the Week honor

Nebraska junior outside hitter Lindsay Krause was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday by the conference office.

Krause sparked the Huskers to a 3-1 win at Michigan State and a 3-0 sweep at Michigan with 3.43 kills per set on a .458 hitting percentage. She also added a team-high four service aces. Krause had a season-high 15 kills and just one error on 27 swings for a .519 hitting percentage in Saturday's win at Michigan. The Papillion, Neb., natve also had two aces and five digs. On Friday night, Krause posted nine kills with four digs and two aces while hitting .381. For the weekend, Krause totaled 24 kills and just two hitting errors on 48 swings.

It’s the third time in the last four weeks that a Husker has won the B1G Player of the week award. Merritt Beason won in back-to-back weeks before Krause earned the accolade this time around.

College football observations so far (Add ur own) Discuss.

I know almost ALL of us are glued to the Huskers games, but alot of you out there also watch other games that interest you in addition.

Just wanted a thread on people's observations so far of the CFB year. good, bad, random etc. everything's open and would love any knowledge brought to the table.

A few of mine:

Michigan seems pretty legit, have a good D, and their O is not bad.

TOSU seems to have taken a small step back IMHO from past years.

Saw Fla St today, they seem semi-legit. Have alot of offensive weapons, QB seems ok, D seems pretty solid..Not a single white dude starting on the whole D.. hahaha

OU seems like they are better than I thought, their D seems like it's a few steps better than previous years, and they made alot of key stops when it mattered against TX today.

Man Bret Bielema has put on a ton of weight, I am actually a little worried about dudes health. He's turning Into Mangino before our eyes.

Anyway, drop some Info, disagree or agree w any of my takes etc.

As always GBR..

Recruiting Huskers offer 2024 Florida ATH Gregory Smith

The Huskers made an intriguing offer earlier today. Florida ATH (6-4, 200) Greg Smith announced an offer from the Huskers. Smith told me that defensive backs coach Evan Cooper called him after his visit to Florida and made the offer.

Smith doesn’t have the date locked in but he’s excited to come to Nebraska this season for an OV.

The Huskers offered him at DB.

Recruiting Recruiting Blitz: Analyzing Rhule's culture, recruiting objectives for bye

The latest episode of the Recruiting Blitz is here. Really good show this week.

00:00 - Intro

03:02 - Matt Rhule's culture

07:54 - Importance of on-field success for recruiting

11:16 - Objectives for Nebraska coaches during bye week

Why has the defense excelled while the offense struggled with the new staff?

It’s like we have two totally different coaching staffs and players at work on the same team. Do the coordinators have that much autonomy under Rhule? What exactly is going on because it’s so dramatic? The offense looks like a carbon copy of a Riley and Frost offense while the Defense plays like a 90’s style Charlie McBride blackshirt defense!

Matt Rhule coaching

I've noticed Matt coaching his ass off the last two games.

I think we have more than a couple bad position coaches.. one of those being the RB's coach.

When a young player doesn't even know which side of the formation the run is going and can't get his handoff receiving correct, it tells me that coach isn't doing his job. Every time I see that punk coach on the sideline, it's like he's standing there with his fascinating beard, doing NOTHING. Not coaching up his players, and maybe the camera is just catching things at the wrong time, but I think our RB coach sucks.

Our OC's playing calling has been maddening. You can see Matt Rhule interjecting and getting involved thankfully in an attempt to stop that dumb dumb from doing something even more stupid. I can not get behind this backwards idiot OC.

Our OL coach, has always been suspect, but it seems Illinois was doing something to draw the OL offsides, and they were able to get away with it, but Rhule is certainly on top of it. Whatever that thing is, why isn't the OL coach teaching this stuff in his drills?

I've just noticed Matt being involved a lot more in things, like he's trying to take over for some of these coaches that aren't doing their jobs in game.

I'm glad he's doing that, but would like to see him take the next step and get some better coaches in here when he can.

Rant over.. glad we won.
