Finally game week! Predictions?

I am so pumped for this season. Have not been this optimistic since before the start of the 2010 season. Let's hope the results are better. Is it too early for a prediction thread? Here is my prediction for the UTEP game. I was initially leaning toward a low scoring affair. First game jitters and all that. And I think it will be somewhat close for a half before we blow it open in the second half. My prediction:

Nebraska 45
UTEP 3

OT: From the Earth to the Moon

I have been rewatching the series as I do every couple of years that's how much I love it. I have my top three favorite episodes let's see if you guys agree. I was surprised that a friend of mine has not seen them before this evening but I think we have an older and more curious bunch on this site.

My all time favorite in the series is:

Spider--The episode where they track the Grummund team as they win the contract and create and make the LEM space worthy. The connection with the vehicle is what I think makes this the best episode in the 10 episode series. It documents what the execs and their team went through to make this vehicle space worthy and an integral part of the story of the moon landings.

#2 Galileo was Right-- It's the final episode of the story it depicts the training that Harrison (Jack) Schmidt the LMP of Apollo 17 and the last man on the moon led NASA into doing. He convinced the higher ups that something more was needed in their training as he was a trained geologist unlike his colleagues. A good portion of the episode is them out in the wilderness with Schmidt's teacher and how they responded to the extra training. Along with that is the little man that taught the CMP pilots how better to view the surface while they were waiting for their friends on the surface. Fascinating understanding of what some of the Apollo astronauts went through.

We Interrupt this Program-- I think the third best may be the beginning of the end of true journalism with Elliot Seaborn the anchor getting pushed aside by the cub reporter. This story basically shows what led to the sensualism of news reports that we see today. No longer to anchors report just the facts and the Seaborn character wants to do. He was a little too cowed to the brass at NASA perhaps but he put out the story as he knew it. He was up with the science and knew before other anchors what the accident on 13 meant. He was respected enough by the people at mission control that if he called in like he did before the initial report someone was willing to give him the actual scoop. The Hutchins character that was at the time a Sports reporter with aspirations that went too far to get something noticeable.

Let me know if you agree I love the series and would love to chat about it.

Recruiting On three notable visitors in town this weekend

Jones made a last-minute visit down to Nebraska for the season opener and now plans to be back next week for the Colorado game as well. I'll have more on him tomorrow but he's really just looking for the on-field improvement from the program and evidence that guys are getting developed. Seeing the offense sustain drives and seeing the Huskers not let their foot off the gas even with a commanding lead are two plusses for him. Sure helps to see Vincent Shavers on the field so early, improvement from Mkai Gbayor and MJ Sherman, and the amount of young guys that got in the game on Saturday.

Schmitt was originally planning to be back in Nebraska next week for the Colorado game but his school's football schedule won't allow him to make that trip so he decided to come down to Lincoln a week earlier, his third visit in as many months. He was impressed with Dylan Raiola and the offensive improvement, paid close attention to the OL and has a lot of faith in Donovan Raiola's ability to develop. He's hoping to get back down later this fall.

Like Schmitt, this was the third visit in as many months for Reynolds, but it was his first game day visit with an offer and he's already planning to be back next week for the Colorado game as well. Candidate to be the first 2026 commit in Nebraska's class but he's keeping an open mind to other potential options and doesn't have a set timeline as things stand.
