Simultaneously catch

Can someone explain to me why if both the receiver and the defender go for the ball the receiver has possession and crosses the goal line with both feet then is tackled and the defender wrestles it away, compared that to a running back or quarterback leaps in the end zone and a soon as the ball crosses the plane it’s a td even if the runner hits the ground and the ball comes out. Why are there two different standards?

Baseball MLB Playoffs: Three former Huskers set for Wild Card Round

Press release:

Three former Huskers are on 26-man rosters for the Wild Card round of the Major League Baseball Playoffs this week.

Jake Meyers made the Houston Astros’ 26-man roster after hitting .219 with 20 doubles, three triples, 13 homers, 61 RBI and 51 runs scored in 148 games this season.

The former Husker has appeared in six games in three postseasons with the Astros, hitting .300 at the plate with a pair of RBI and two runs scored in the playoffs.

Cade Povich joins the Orioles in the playoffs after making 16 starts in his rookie season in Baltimore. The southpaw compiled a 3-9 record and a 5.20 ERA while striking out 69 in 79.2 innings of work. Povich recorded six starts with at least six strikeouts, including a season-high 10 punchouts in 7.1 shutout innings against the Chicago White Sox.

Aaron Bummer is in the playoffs for the first time as a Brave, and the third time overall in his career after back-to-back appearances with the White Sox in 2020 and 2021. The former Husker posted a 4-3 mark with a 3.58 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 55.1 innings while making 56 appearances out of the bullpen for Atlanta this season.

Bummer has appeared in five games in the playoffs, holding an 0-1 record with a 5.79 ERA and eight strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

Spencer Schwellenbach missed the Braves’ Wild Card roster after starting the first game of yesterday’s doubleheader but is expected to be in Atlanta’s rotation for the Divisional Series if the Braves advance.

Football Matt Rhule presser live thread to kick off Rutgers week

Rhule is scheduled to kick off Rutgers week with a press conference today at around 11:30 to noon-ish. I'll provide any notable updates in this thread.

Rutgers has never won a football game against Nebraska, which leads the all-time series 6-0. The Huskers won the last matchup between these two, 14-13, in Piscataway in 2022. The last time Rutgers was in Lincoln was 2017, and Nebraska won that one 27-17.

Game time for Saturday's game is set for 3 p.m. and it'll be broadcast on FS1.

Football Tommi Hill & Stefon Thompson injury updates, Javin Wright's emotional return & All-Big Ten Bullock

Updates and thoughts from Matthew Kenneth Rhule on Monday ahead of Nebraska-Rutgers:

>> Tommi Hill & Stefon Thompson injury updates
>> Javin Wright and his emotional return to the field
>> John Bullock playing like an All-Big Ten LB ... with the numbers to prove it

Football Everything Matt Rhule said about Big Ten officiating in Nebraska-Purdue

Nebraska: 9 penalties for 89 yards
Illinois: 3 penalties for 20 yards

Nebraska: 11 penalties for 94 yards*
Purdue: 13 penalties for 165 yards

*including one egregious call that wiped out a TD + an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Matt Rhule.

After all of it, Rhule had enough and did something rare … he didn’t wait his typical 48 hours after the game to address any issues with officiating on Monday (like he did in last year’s Michigan State game).

Here’s everything Rhule said about the Big Ten officiating in Saturday’s win over Purdue:

Football ***Micah Mazzccua: Matt Rhule updates status of Nebraska's top offensive guard

Rhule said in the Purdue postgame presser that he would provide more details about Micah Mazzccua on Monday. Certainly not the entire story, but here are the "more details" ...

What is our "Mendoza" line for FGs?

Going forward at what distance should we be going for it on 4th down? Outside the 20? Less than 4th and 10? We are ahead by 7 or more?

At what point does Rhule throw analytics out the door and go with the odds that Raiola at 4th and 8 from the 23 YL is a better option than kicking a FG?

I wonder how that will affect how we get defended? Let's say we are 3rd and 11 from the 32 will an opposing DC give up something that lets them only get it to. 4th and 3 from the 24? They might do it anyway....but knowing we aren't even 50% kicks has to enter into a DC's mind.
