Baseball Live Thread BSB FINAL: Nebraska 2, Nicholls 1 (Game 1 of DH)

After Thursday's series opener was canceled, we are back for a Friday doubleheader between Nebraska (9-5-1) and Nicholls (11-8). The Colonels have been decent this season and have a couple of nice arms that have good ERAs. I'm interested to see how the Huskers respond after such a disappointing loss against Omaha on Tuesday. I'm not too concerned about the offense as they've proven they can produce runs against everyone, but let's see how the bullpen reacts. They gave up all 10 runs the Mavericks scored on Tuesday. Last time the bullpen struggled against San Diego, they came back to throw a shutout weekend against South Alabama where they allowed zero earned runs across three games.

Good pitching matchup for the opening game of this doubleheader as it will be RHP Emmett Olson (2-1, 3.97 ERA, 22.2 IP) vs. LHP Tyler Theriot (2-2, 2.53 ERA, 21.1 IP). Considering this is only a seven-inning game, it could go quick.

A nine-inning game will follow with RHP Jace Kaminska (3-0, 2.25 ERA, 24.0 IP) vs. TBA. Here's the series preview to get you ready.

Six Phillies outfielders die of brain cancer

Have any of you been reading about this? They are looking into artificial turf as the culprit. I know there are communities where people are limited to the amount of turf they can put in their yards and then they have to post a sign warning people of the dangers. I think the claim is the heat on the grass causes it to emit fumes that could cause cancer. We could be headed back to grass, which I wouldn't mind at all.

How Much Will Offensive Style Play Into Raiola’s Decision?

There has been significant talk from Coach Matt Rhule and his staff wanting to be dominant and physical at the line of scrimmage. I think most of us get that want that and we all know we need that upgrade. Rhule said he wants to be balanced as well. He wants an improved running game. We need that.

However, when you’re trying to attract and get a top throwing quarterback to commit like Raiola, I don’t think you want to carbon copy Iowa or Wisconsin’s offense. That’s my fear. I think we still need to incorporate a great deal of a sophisticated passing game, not only to contrast many of the styles in the West, but to compete with the East as well. Should Nebraska be closer to USC or Georgia pass run balance.? I’m not worried yet just curious how it’s going to look.
