Recruiting 4-star DB sets official visit with Nebraska

Maryland commit and four-star DB Larry Tarver told me this morning that he will be taking an official visit to Nebraska. He'll be in town next weekend for the matchup with Purdue.

Tarver has already flipped his commitment once this cycle from FIU to Maryland. Could he be on the move again? He's an great athlete and an elite prospect. Talking to people down in Florida they feel he might be underrated.

Volleyball Game Thread FINAL: No. 1 Nebraska 3, Maryland 0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-8)

I'm back at the Devaney Center for another full weekend of volleyball as No. 1 Nebraska hosts Maryland for the program's annual Pink Night. All players are decked out in pink warmup jerseys, armbands, hair ties, etc. This game is always one to look forward to on the calendar.

The Big Ten grind continues for the Huskers who are coming off a huge win over previous No. 1 Wisconsin in five sets last Saturday here in Lincoln. It was a magical night as Nebraska snapped its 10-game losing streak to the Badgers in one of the best college volleyball matches in history. ICYMI, here is my gamer and follow up column on the match:

Tonight, the Huskers face an interesting Maryland team who's well above .500, but has struggled in Big Ten play so far with a 4-6 record. The Terrapins snapped a four-match losing streak last Saturday with a 3-1 win over Iowa. Maryland is best known for its block under head coach Adam Hughes. The Terrapins lost one of the best blockers in NCAA history in middle blocker Rainelle Jones over the offseason. She's now broadcasting volleyball matches for the Big Ten Network. Still, Maryland is third-best blocking team in the B1G behind only Wisconsin and Penn State. Here's my in-depth preview of the weekend:

The big message this week from everyone was to avoid a letdown after the Wisconsin match. Here is John Cook's What We Learned from this week where he took responsibility to make sure that doesn't happen.

Plus, the Players' Corner from Thursday with Bergen Reilly and Laney Choboy.

Site Stuff My last weekend at Inside Nebraska

I have some bitter news to kick off this Friday. This weekend will be my last working at Rivals and with my wonderful co-workers here at Inside Nebraska. My last day will be Sunday, the 29th.

I’ve been so lucky to be a part of the Inside Nebraska community over the past year and a half. From my “talkie” misspelling to the hilarious inside jokes, every day was filled with different adventures with this community. Thank you to everyone who read my stories as I grew and became more passionate about Nebraska Volleyball, baseball and football. It’s sad that I’m leaving in the midst of two great seasons with volleyball and (hopefully) football, but whoever my replacement is I’m confident that they’ll do a great job and you treat them with the same kindness and respect you all gave me.

It’s easy for me to say that the Husker fan base is the best and you’ve all proven why. My chats with the late BBTownBomber (God rest his soul) and the many well-informed subscribers on this site has been one of the best perks of this job.

I also want to thank my awesome co-workers in Zack, Greg, Steve and Jansen. As a bushy-tailed graduate from UNL, Zack took a chance on me and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m confident that even with my departure that these guys will carry this site to new heights. I’ll be carrying the experiences I’ve had from my time here for the rest of my life.

As for my next adventure, make sure to stay tuned until after the weekend but I won’t be going far. In fact, I can’t rule out that I’ll be a lurker on the site. For now, I’m excited and ready to provide some thorough coverage of Husker volleyball as they have another full weekend.

Again, thank you everyone for making this such a good experience. And hey, if you see me around, don’t be afraid to come say hello. Thank you everyone!

Huskers Earn Big Ten Postseason Soccer Honors

Husker Dominate All-Big Ten Teams
Huskers.com

Eleanor Dale became the first Nebraska’s women’s soccer player to claim Big Ten Forward-of-the-Year honors, when the conference announced its annual awards on Friday.

Dale, a senior from Billingham, England, earned four Big Ten Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors this season (second-most in Big Ten history). She leads the country in total goals (23) and game-winning goals (7), while also leading the conference in shots (110), shots on goal (53) and points (50). Dale’s total goals and points are the most in the Big Ten since 2001 (Christie Welsh, Penn State, 25 goals, 68 points).

Dale, who has tallied nine braces this season, is tied for third on Nebraska’s season goal scored list. She trails only Kim Engesser, who scored 27 goals in 1998 and 26 goals in 1997. Nationally, Dale is first in shots per game (6.11) and goals per game (1.28), and second in points per game (2.78) and shots on goal per game (2.94).

Gretna’s Sarah Weber joins Dale as a first-team All-Big Ten honoree as Weber captured her second-straight first-team All-Big Ten status. She ranks second in the conference in shots (72) and points (27), fourth in shots on goal (33) and fifth in goals (10). Nationally, Weber is 11th in shots per game (4.24) and 25th in total points.

Junior midfielder Haley Peterson and junior Jordan Zade added second-team All-Big Ten honors, while senior Reagan Raabe earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for Nebraska.

In addition to Nebraska’s five Big Ten honors, John Walker was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by his peers for the second time in his career. It is the fourth conference coach-of-the year award for Walker, who was the 2013 Big Ten Coach of the Year, and the 1996 and 1999 Big 12 Coach of the Year. Walker was also the national coach of the year in 1996.

I'm making an impromptu trip back home to Lincoln on Wednesday. My dad is not doing well and going to spend some time with him. Also hope to catch the game on Saturday with friends. I thought I'd throw the ticket question out here on the board. Hoping to nab some good seats for the game. If you've got a lead, feel free to DM me or message back here. Thanks in advance.
