I'm back at the Devaney Center for another full weekend of volleyball as No. 1 Nebraska hosts Maryland for the program's annual Pink Night. All players are decked out in pink warmup jerseys, armbands, hair ties, etc. This game is always one to look forward to on the calendar.
The Big Ten grind continues for the Huskers who are coming off a huge win over previous No. 1 Wisconsin in five sets last Saturday here in Lincoln. It was a magical night as Nebraska snapped its 10-game losing streak to the Badgers in one of the best college volleyball matches in history. ICYMI, here is my gamer and follow up column on the match:
Tonight, the Huskers face an interesting Maryland team who's well above .500, but has struggled in Big Ten play so far with a 4-6 record. The Terrapins snapped a four-match losing streak last Saturday with a 3-1 win over Iowa. Maryland is best known for its block under head coach Adam Hughes. The Terrapins lost one of the best blockers in NCAA history in middle blocker Rainelle Jones over the offseason. She's now broadcasting volleyball matches for the Big Ten Network. Still, Maryland is third-best blocking team in the B1G behind only Wisconsin and Penn State. Here's my in-depth preview of the weekend:
The big message this week from everyone was to avoid a letdown after the Wisconsin match. Here is John Cook's What We Learned from this week where he took responsibility to make sure that doesn't happen.
Plus, the Players' Corner from Thursday with Bergen Reilly and Laney Choboy.
