Purdue at Nebraska Preview and Prediction
by Pete Fiutak, CollegeFootballNews.com

Purdue (2-5) at Nebraska (4-3)
Saturday, October 28 - 3:30 PM (ET) - FOX Sports 1

Why Purdue Will Win
Is it possible that the real 2023 Purdue has been sort of hiding?

The win at Virginia Tech got totally blown off at the time, but as it turns out, it's a nice victory over a likely bowl team. That 44-19 whomping of Illinois was ignored, too, and why? A loss to a strong Fresno State, a solid Syracuse, and problem against Wisconsin -- who'll probably end up winning the Big Ten West -- Iowa and Ohio State.

Being 2-5 doesn't get you noticed.

But the team that tagged Illinois was effective with the passing game, came up with a decent day defensively, and it only turned the ball over once. It's not a coincidence that the team is 2-0 with three touchdown passes and 0-5 with fewer, but ......

Why Nebraska Will Win
....Nebraska gave up three touchdown passes to Michigan, two to Colorado, and the other four were spread out.

Very, VERY, quietly, Nebraska is now deep in the Big Ten West title hunt. If it wins out and Minnesota loses once more, your Huskers are a 27.5-point dog in Indy in early December -- and the fan base will take that in a heartbeat.

This is hardly a gorgeous brand of football, but 4-1 in the last five games with the lone loss coming to Michigan? Two wins away from going bowling? A defense that's stuffing the run -- only the Wolverines averaged more than 2.2 yards per carry against it -- and an offense that's decent on the ground?

It has been a massive step forward over the last five weeks for the Huskers, and ........

What Will Happen
.....Okay, fine, so the four Nebraska wins weren't exactly against a slew of killers, but who cares? The team is competent and -- for the first time in years -- finding ways to win.

The Huskers are going to have to score in this, though. They can't just win on a war of attrition -- Purdue will throw okay and put a few points on the board. However, it won't run well, Nebraska's D will dominate on third downs, and the pass rush will be solid when it absolutely has to be.

Prediction
Nebraska 23, Purdue 20

Spread
Nebraska is favored at home by 2.5 points. The O/U is set at 39.5 points.

BUFFoonery

Colorado recruiting staff kicked a legacy 4-star LB recruit out after the USC game because they "didn't know who he was..." Marco Jones is a 2025 LB prospect and is rated 4 stars by all 4 major recruiting sites... He has offers from Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, OU, Notre Dame, and just about every PAC12 school... His dad is a Colorado alum and says Colorado will not receive a commitment from his son... Interestingly the Buff article cropped out his visitors lanyard while claiming they were unsure if he was there on a visit...

Basketball Huskers ready for exhibition against Doane, but will be without key bigs

The Nebraska men's basketball team will host Doane University on Sunday for an exhibition at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Fred Hoiberg met with the media this morning and gave an update on what his roster currently looks like. Along with it were some updates on a few key guys. Rienk Mast, Juwan Gary, Josiah Allick, Blaise Keita and Ramel Lloyd Jr. won't play against Doane.

>> Hoiberg said Mast won't play because he was "the unfortunate victim of a random act of violence that happened last week." Hoiberg said the authorities are still investigating and that's all he would say about it at this time,

>> Gary is out due to a violation of team policies. Hoiberg didn't say if Sunday was going to be the only suspension.

>> Allick tweaked a knee last week in the closed-door scrimmage against Utah. Hoiberg said scans came back negative for any kind of structural damage. They'll be cautious with Allick and won't play him.

>> Keita still isn't ready for action because of his ankle.

>> Lloyd still hasn't recovered from an injury he sustained in practice a while back. Hoiberg said he's progressing.

I'll have much more later today. But that's it for now. I think we'll have Jamarques Lawrence and Boogie Coleman as the players who speak with us.

EDIT: Just finished the story:

Harbaugh…it’s just Who He Is..

1). Stealing signals is a Nothing Burger to me.

2). What is an Issue and Real Substance Burger, is the fact they Knew it was against NCAA rules, but still Planned and Executed the Cheating for several years. That’s significant and there has to be a real consequence.

2). And it’s a Real Substance Burger because Intentionally Cheating and having no Respect for other Team’s, his Coaches and Players and the University of Michigan is inexcusable. This is the ongoing pattern of regular business for Jim Harbaugh’s program operation.

3). And the University of Michigan has been derelict in their oversight, and needs to take action this time.

4). What’s most disappointing, He is good enough Coach he doesn’t have to Cheat. It appears it’s just Who He Is.

Football Trev Alberts: Mics in helmets coming soon to CFB, Huskers will move to west sideline at Memorial Stadium

Some pretty assertive news from Trev Alberts tonight on helmets in mics, Huskers' move to the west sideline at Memorial Stadium in the near future and, of course, schedule talk!!

Purdue prediction thread

Don’t see a prediction thread so here goes.

Tough game to call. Purdue does not seem that good, but with the exception of Ohio State they have been competitive in every game they have played. And our offense is decimated with injuries. Our defense is excellent but Purdue has a good enough offense to uncork a few big plays here and there to at least set them up for field goals. So our offense had better not turn it over and it needs to generate more than 14 points I think.
