Danny Kaelin will be a STUD QB for Nebraska

Kid does it all from a passing perspective - this type of downfield accuracy and within the pocket ability will take our offense to an entire new level and open up an already impressive rushing attack when defenses can no longer keep an extra LB and even Safety in the box against us

Watch the way Kaelin hits both deep out routes and deep slants, and his ability to keep his eyes downfield even while navigating the pocket

Statistical Breakdown of the Blackshirts

National Ranks:

Points Per Game - #21 - 18.6 (take out the Michigan game and this unit flies up the chart even farther)

Rushing Defense - #5 - 79 yards per game

Passing Defense - #59 - 219 yards per game (again I think Michigan game skews this number hard)

Total Defense - #13 - 298 yards per game

Yards per Play allowed - #11 - 4.5 yards per play allowed (this number is a HUGE one IMO)

Sacks - #17 - 3.13 sacks per game (25 total sacks on the year)

TFL - #32 - 6.16 TFL per game

Football Upon Further Review: Nebraska-Purdue, Jeff Sims, Rhule hitting No. 1 offseason goal

Time for another Monday edition of Upon Further Review!

>> 3 things that caught my eye
>> 3 things to watch
>> 5 best quotes of the week

The offense next year?

This will be fun.
O line. I think all of our O lineman are back except one. Also have some maulers coming N this class.
RB. EJ looking good. Gabe and Rahmir back? Kwinton Ives. Need a couple more. Portal?
TE. Fidone and Boerkicher. Ismael Smith Flores. 3 studs coming N. Set for years.
WR. No disrespect to Hahn and Bullock but the 3 young speedsters are the shot we needed. Jacory, Daevon and Mcmorris coming N. Neal Smith's boy coming N looks good. Ken Clark's boy is a big target.
Saved the best for last.
QB. This is the million-dollar question. I like HH and his toughness and what he has done this year. Is he the starter for the next 2 years?
I hope he can improve his passing and do a better job of hanging onto the ball. The rest of this season will tell us more. I just wish he would stop taking unnecessary hits. If he gets injured, we will be arguing who sucks worse? Sims or Purdy.
Off season Sims will probably be gone. Danny K I think needs a year in the weightroom before he's ready for Big 10 play.
I think we need a serious portal QB this offseason and let him and HH battle it out for next year. Thoughts? Go......

Oline analysis

Sharp seems to think that when (if?) Nouili comes back, NU may be featuring its strongest offensive line. Evans-Jenkins has played well (very well for his age), but the wild card is Teddy. Can Lutovsky do enough in the interim as a starter for the offense to competently operate. The three kids that will be replacing starters have already either started or have played a bit. They are not fresh out of the box.

Satterfield

1. “Offensive coordinators don't get praised around here, so I'll probably be in the minority on this. But I thought Marcus Satterfield did a nice job on Saturday. Considering what the offensive coordinator has to work with on offense — so many key injuries and so much inexperience out there, along with a patchwork offensive line — I'm not sure you can judge the guy on this season. But there were several highlights: the touchdown pass to Thomas Fidone at the goal-line, then dialing up the deep touchdown pass to Jaylen Lloyd and some option plays that moved the chains at the right time. The one thing I can't understand — and can't stand — is putting the quarterback in shotgun on fourth-and-one. Jeff Sims probably doesn't help his own cause, but put him under center and sneak for the one and the fumble is less likely to happen. End of rant.”

I agree with this assessment and would also put Raiola in this category of way overblown criticism.

Omaha Talent Carrying Their Weight

I have been very vocal about Omaha producing zero scholarship talent for NU since Niles Paul in 2007. I stand by that being a major reason why NU has sunk to such lows.

It has been refreshing to see Nick Henrich, Alvano, Prochazka, and Loyd ball out these past few weeks.

Additionally I love that our 2024 class is full of Omaha talent.

I am confident Rhule will continue to recruit and develop Omaha Metro talent bringing NU back to national relevance.
