Omaha Dog Owners

Just took my 11 year old Golden to the vet. She has Entoprian. Something about her eye lashed being inverted into her eyes. Vet, Harvey Oaks Animal Hospital, says we need surgery to repair.

Got a quote for almost 1600. That seems pretty outrageous. Anyone in town have any rec's for cheaper alternatives? I see a place called good samaritan pet doctor that has it for under 500.

Any advice or recs would be great.

Watched Syracuse last night...

Lot of booing and "fire coach Babers" chants. Wonder if they would go after Tony White if the job opened after the season. Or would they opt for a coach with some HC experience.

Also noticed Travis Fisher (former Husker DB coach) and a couple former Huskers. Former 4 star Jaeden Gould looked like a starter and got the most PT of the former Huskers. Also seen Myles Farmer who I thought would've been a starter but apparently he wasn't. He actually got a 15 yard penalty for a bone headed play similar to what Fleeks got last week against Purdue. Finally I seen Jalil Martin listed on the roster but dont recall seeing him play. He was a guy who Fisher raved about saying he was an NFL player if I'm not mistaken.

Just found it interesting to see how those guys would do elsewhere.

Hindsight we may have lucked into a good situation with Farmer leaving. After watching him for 4 years I can't imagine a scenario where his his play would've been better than what Giffords, Brown, or Singeltons has before the injury.

Just found it kinda interesting. Anyone have any idea how NPG (Gates) is doing wherever he transferred to? New Mexico maybe?

Oh yeah I know this board is kind torn on the play of our starting QB. But man Syracuse QB may have been the worse passer I've seen all year and watching Nebraska every week that's saying a lot. Dude had like 4 interceptions last night. Kinda and explosive runner but God was he horrible as a passer. So YES it could be worse here lol

Football Matt Rhule: Not firing Marcus Satterfield after season, preaches patience

Matt Rhule isn't making any staff changes after the season.

“The answer in life sometimes is always just to change everything, right? Players want to transfer. Everybody wants their head coach to fire everybody. Has that worked out here?" Rhule said. "Where has that worked out, just firing assistant coaches and coaches and coordinators? So we want the whole offense to start over again with a whole new language next year? I'm not doing that. That's ridiculous.”

UNK Lopers

Interested if anyone followed the Lopers closely this year or is in the TriCities area? Held took a team that was at or near the top of the MIAA and went 3-8. Had a QB that was a 4 (?) year starter and Harlon Hill candidate running an option system and tried to turn him into a pocket passer. Think I saw where he was splitting time at the end of the year. I saw some pretty rought tweets from a few ex players after the loss this weekend. Believe one of them was from the Schlager kids brother. Insinuating that the staff is a clown show and such. Lynn had turned that thing around and I wasn't a fan of bringing Held in. No upside to it at all. Anyone closer to the deal got any juicy details? :)

Quick question

My son and I are coming to Lincoln for the game next Friday. Really excited to experience Memorial Stadium and everything Lincoln has to offer. I've been there for a basketball game and had an amazing time. The final score wasn't what I was hoping for, but the arena was impressive and we had a great time with the fans we sat with. Anyway, to my question. Where would be a good place to park? Also, where would be a good place to hang out before the game? Thanks in advance. Can't wait to see the stadium!

Football Ty Robinson's message to Rhule, killing The Bear in the Fish Bowl and ... Chubba "QB1" Purdy?

Lot of stuff to dissect from yesterday with Rhule:

– Ty Robinson's important message and reminder to Rhule
– Killing "The Bear in the Fish Bowl"
– Barring injury/health, there's simply no way that you can insert Jeff Sims in as the starter
– Speaking of: It certainly looks and sounds like Chubba is gonna be QB1 at Wisconsin ... but maybe I'm the only one who thought that?

Nebraska in the 2023 Big Ten Championship Game….

Not joking, but this is totally plausible given the trash dump that is the Big Ten West. Huskers play in Indianapolis if:

1. Nebraska beats Wisconsin and Iowa
2. Iowa loses Illinois and Nebraska
3. Minnesota loses to either Ohio State or Wisconsin

I’m dreaming now….but Ohio State crushes Michigan in 2 weeks. In the Big Ten Championship game, Nebraska beats Ohio State., Does the BCS committee pass on the entire Big Ten, or properly give an up & coming Blue Blood return to glory — Nebraska?

Just woke up. Win 1 friggin’ game! LFG!!!

THE MATCHUP
Nebraska completes its 2023 road schedule on Saturday night when the Huskers travel to Madison to take on the Wisconsin Badgers. The matchup between Big Ten West foes is set for 6:30 p.m. at UW's Camp Randall Stadium. NBC will provide the television coverage and the game can be heard on the Huskers Radio Network, the official Huskers App and Huskers.com.

Both teams are looking to clinch a postseason berth as Nebraska and Wisconsin battle for the Freedom Trophy that was established in 2014. The teams enter the contest with matching 5-5 overall records, including 3-4 marks in Big Ten Conference play, and are in search of a sixth win to clinch bowl eligibility.

Nebraska is coming off a heart-breaking 13-10 loss to Maryland on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, as the Terrapins kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired. The game was a defensive and field position struggle, with the two defenses combining for eight takeaways in the contest.

The Husker defense was strong once again, holding the high-powered Maryland offense scoreless in the first quarter and limiting the Terrapins to just one touchdown. Offensively, Nebraska played three quarterbacks in the game and produced 183 rushing yards, but could not overcome five turnovers.

Wisconsin heads into the matchup coming off a 24-10 loss to Northwestern on Saturday in Madison. The setback was the third straight for the Badgers after opening the season with a 5-2 record under first-year Head Coach Luke Fickell. Wisconsin has a balanced offensive attack, gaining 154.3 yards per game on the ground while throwing for 217.8 yards per contest. The Badgers' defense is once again strong, allowing just 333.1 yards and 19.6 points per contest.

LAST MEETING

Wisconsin 15, Nebraska 14

November 19, 2022

LINCOLN
- A late-game score pushed Wisconsin to a 15-14 victory over Nebraska at Memorial Stadium, after the Badgers' Graham Mertz punched in a one-yard rushing touchdown with 35 seconds left.

It was the third score of the half for Wisconsin who scored all 15 points in the latter after being shutout in the first half. The Huskers had one final drive to go the length of the field but were held to just one first down in their final possession as time expired.

Nebraska's Trey Palmer grabbed a pair of touchdowns in the second and third quarter in the loss, his second multi-touchdown effort of the season.

The first score came after Malcolm Hartzog picked off Mertz for his team-leading third interception of the season. Nebraska then drove 37 yards on eight plays into the end zone for a 7-0 lead to get the 86,068 fans in attendance warmed up on a chilly, 28-degree day.

Palmer was then left wide open on a 20-yard post route with 34 seconds left in the third quarter for his team-leading seventh receiving score on the season. He is now tied for the sixth-most receiving touchdowns in a single season in Nebraska history.

Nebraska's offense totaled 171 yards, with 106 yards through the air and 65 yards on the ground. Casey Thompson completed 12-of-19 passes for 106 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Palmer paced the receiving core with four catches for 47 yards and two scores, while Travis Vokolek added two grabs for 20 yards.

The Big Red held the Badgers to just 83 passing yards, as Mertz finished the day going 8-of-18 for 83 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Ernest Hausmann recorded a career-high 12 tackles and held the Badgers to a little over 200 yards on the ground, led by Chez Mellusi's 98 yards who took over for Braelon Allen.

Neither squad got anything going in the opening quarter, as they combined for just 89 yards of total offense. Wisconsin pieced together a 10-play drive to get into field-goal range, before Ochaun Mathis forced an intentional-grounding penalty to drive the Badgers outside the 40.

The two teams traded punts until Hartzog's third interception of the season set Nebraska up at the Wisconsin 37-yard line. With 10:13 left in the half, it marked the first time that the Huskers reached Badger territory on the afternoon.

Nebraska turned the takeaway into points, as Thompson went 3-for-4 with 29 passing yards on the quick scoring drive. A pair of grabs from Palmer, capped off by an 11-yard touchdown reception, gave the Huskers a 7-0 lead with 6:40 remaining.

Wisconsin got the ball back and immediately ventured on a 13-play drive that stalled just outside the red zone. Nate Van Zelst left his 39-yard field goal short with 14 seconds left, and the Big Red took a seven-point advantage into the locker room.

It was the second-straight time at home that Nebraska shutout its opponent in the first half, doing so against Minnesota two weeks ago.

After a pair of three-and-outs, Wisconsin embarked on its third of four 10+ play drives, anchored by 59 rushing yards that set up a 25-yard field goal from Van Zelst to cut the lead to 7-3.

With 4:50 left in the third, the Huskers offense exploded on a nine play, 79-yard drive capped off with Palmer's second touchdown of the afternoon for a 14-3 lead. Nebraska converted on a pair of third downs to capture a double-digit lead with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

However, Wisconsin responded with a swift 75-yard scoring drive after Skyler Bell reeled in a 10-yard pass from Mertz. Although the Badgers failed the two-point conversion, Wisconsin cut NU's lead to 14-9 with 10:07 left in the game.

Following a Nebraska three-and-out with 3:11 remaining, the Badgers drew up a 27-yard pass to Isaac Guerendo, followed by a Mertz sneak for the touchdown and lead. Nebraska got the ball back with just over 30 seconds left but fell short as time expired.

Football Marco Ortiz named semifinalist for Patrick Mannelly Award, honoring nation's top long snapper

From Nebraska Athletics Communications:

Marco Ortiz is one of 10 long snappers recognized as a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award.

The award, named after former NFL long snapper Patrick Mannelly, is presented annually to the top snapper in the FBS. In its fifth year of existence, the award benefits Bernie’s Book Bank, a non-profit that provides books for underserved communities in the Chicago area.

A first-year transfer from Florida, Ortiz has flawlessly handled every long snap of the season for Nebraska. His snapping has helped Tristan Alvano make six of his last seven field goals, including a 55-yarder that is the second-longest field goal in school history. Ortiz has also helped Brian Buschini place 40 percent of his punts this season inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

The list of 10 semifinalists will be narrowed to three finalists on Nov. 27. The three finalists will be invited to the award presentation dinner in the Chicago area on Dec. 9.

Basketball WBB: Jaz Shelley named to Wooden Award Watch List

From Nebraska Athletics Communications:

Nebraska's Jaz Shelley was one of 50 women's basketball players nationally named to the Wooden Award Preseason Watch List announced on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The John R. Wooden Award presented by Principal is selected by a panel of college basketball experts, and the candidates are also in contention for the Wooden Award All-America Team.

Shelley, a 5-9 guard from Moe, Australia, is one of 20 shooting guards nationally in the hunt for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award. The preseason first-team All-Big Ten selection was also a first-team All-Big Ten guard last season for the Huskers. Through two games in 2023-24, Shelley is leading Nebraska with team-best averages of 16.0 points, 6.5 assists and 3.0 steals to go along with 4.0 rebounds per game for the 2-0 Huskers.

Last season, Shelley averaged 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game. In her first year as a Husker in 2021-22, she averaged 13.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists to earn second-team All-Big Ten accolades while also claiming a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team.

A standout in the classroom, Shelley was a CSC Academic All-District honoree while earning Academic All-Big Ten honors last season. A two-time participant at the NBA Student-Athlete Summit, Shelley was the only collegian on the Australian National Team at the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup, winning a bronze medal as a member of the Opals.

Shelley and the Huskers will be in action tonight at Pinnacle Bank Arena when they play host to Alcorn State. Tip-off with the Lady Braves is set for 7 p.m. and tickets are available now at Huskers.com.
