Thought so. SEC players have been allowed to play in bowls after tanking school. Not sure I want NU to follow that example.
After reading these posts I end up with more questions.
1 - I believe every player is monitored about attending class.
2 - I believe every player has their grades monitored.
3 - If he just said screw finals how freaking stupid is that?!
I just have a lot more questions than i will ever have answers regarding this situation. Student Athletes should be held accountable to being students first.

I know when Riley got here he took a different approach than the prior staff and preached individual accountability for the players and this may be a case where a player hung himself with the rope he was given.
Just curious. What would you do if "your guy" wasn't right? Would you be sad because you would lose possible "insider" status on this great message. Maybe apologize to Nate for putting this shit out? My guess is you would continue to come to this board under your anonymous post as if none of this happened. Putting people's personal shit on a message board when you don't actually know the story is ****ing weak in my opinion, whether this turns out to be true or not. Let it become a discussion once the University or staff release a statement. But whatever, if the story is true, at least you get to be Mr. Insider for a day and that makes it all worth it right? It's real easy to put shit out there if you are anonymous and have no consequences.

The man is not a reporter. He's just putting out information he received and it seems like there are a lot of folks interested in reading about it. It would pass muster in a newsroom so I think it's fair game on a message board. He didn't accuse him of a crime of moral turpitude.
If this is true this is the only way to look at this moving forward give the players who will be contributing for next season...

Are you going to have the same tone next year if we only win 5 games? Have you ever taken a snap before? Or ever even been part of a team? These kids are doing everything they can. How about you hold the middle-aged millionaires responsible for once? And by the way, students flunking classes and getting suspended for bowl games is not a new phenomenon. Have you ever even been to college?
Be honest, this is a Pelini thing. You carried on about him for so long you can't even see this coaching staff with honest objectionable eyes. If they would have gone undefeated then you would have given all the credit in the world to Riley and Co. But they didn't so the blame goes to the kids with the Pelini poo poo stain on them.
And NO I'm not a Pelini apologist or supporter. But can we not live in a world where maybe neither coaching staffs are cutting it.

Still no official word on Gerry. Let's all hope Tuco's source got it wrong this time.
A large portion of the upperclassmen in the program had/have attitude issues. Guys who are afraid of a little hard work and internal competition. I will be glad to see young talent enter the program and compete
I want this 10th win and I want Gerry patrolling the defensive backfield in two weeks.

If you only want University confirmed or approved information you should probably just read Huskers.com. If people reporting rumors upsets you then this probably isn't the place for you. In fact I would say if it wasn't for a handful of guys who are willing to share the information (or rumors) they hear here, this sight wouldn't be that interesting to guys like me who are mostly looking for a little extra info on their favorite team.
Will not be sad to see this senior class graduate. This program has fallen to the point we're not even sure they'll show up to play hard.
That is not something any pro scout would appreciate as to his character and diligence. If true sad for him and not good PR for our academic support to recruits.
Realistically, this just hurts his teammates. He will play in the league, and it's where he belongs. Nate was never going to be the kind of guy to flash his degree and get a job based on that. Yeah, I think he is a douche, but otherwise not a bad guy to have on your team.
The world needs less people with degrees anyways. I know lots of dumb dumbs that have one.

Very true. Some major character issues with a couple key players. Seems to manifest itself when the going gets tough (62-3 for example).
Kid is a good football player. It is sad to see this if true. But a kid that would rather be at the casino at midnight of a game week, makes me quetion his dedication (and the dedication of the players that were with him).

I was told that his semester grades were so poor that even with perfect scores on the finals he would have still failed all classes.

That makes sense since coaches are given updates on how players are doing. So if he was going to fail no matter what happened with the finals, that is something the coaches would have been told.
I am still wondering though why none of this has been made public yet. Not questioning your info, just really wondering.
He has somewhat become a spokesman for the team on some subjects; that will be going away; or be cast in a different light. Tragic. Poor role model as it reads here. Going for stimulation ? ..... I had a former brother in law; there was a dream job he always wanted. A friend of mine is a top corporate executive; both these individuals came to a holiday gathering at my home and ended up in a conversation. Excitement ensued as it was discussed the dream job was available and the exec said he could see to it the brother in law could get the job. Party went on with this often being discussed ; when the exec said to check, all you have to do is have any degree, have to have the paper - the ex brother in law had pulled the party flunk out his final year and hid it till after he was married. If this is true, I have to ask also where were the academic people who watch the student athletes and their grades, and if he did fail he chose his own journey not the previous staff. Sometimes when you start to read the stories written about you. You tend to think you are bigger and better than the team.
Cannot says any of this is factual, but after the seasons, coaching turmoil and situation in general. I'll premise that who knows what goes thru the minds of college students, today. Don't see a lot of maturity or responsibility or clarity in their actions. Maybe, Gerry had enough and this was his way of getting back at the system, not realizing the full effects of his actions. Everyone has different boiling points and triggers, but stating that, my question would be after putting 4 years into a game I love and to disappoint my parents, why? There a light at the end of the tunnel, just around the corner. I've see a lot crazier things. Think most see better things for themselves, but don't know how to gets there.
Again? It has been a pervasive theme in the program since about 2011. The sense of entitlement that players have because of the way things were done for so many years under the previous staff can only be fixed through natural attrition.
