UCF offer to Frost

I keep hearing UCF people saying as a reason for Frost to stay, " Frost has great recruiting in FL, he wont get those players to come to Neb"
As of right now UCF has 2 FL top 100 recruits. Those recruits are in the bottom half of that 100 (around 66th and 90th) All the good FL kids are going to FL st, FL and Miami.
It isn't like UCF is pulling in top 10 FL talent year in and year out. So I just don't understand that as a good reason for him to stay.

Excatly. They are close to good recruits, but they are still behind Miami, Florida, FSU, Bama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, et, etc to get them. We consistently recruit classes in the 15-25 range for a reason. We are very appealing to many recruits, nationally and are the closest, best option for a lot of kids in places like KC, STL, Omaha, Denver, etc.

At Nebraska, you could lose a game and still make the playoff...

At UCF you have to be perfect every year, play a strong out of conference schedule, and look great doing it.
And still not have much of a prayer.

That may be true today...but if they keep winning games and going to big bowls that would easily change relatively quickly. Turn it around...right now which top recruits would want to come to Nebraska to lose 5 or 6 games a year? Unless (once) we start winning again, our recruiting will improve.

No way can UCF afford $4-$5M per year for a head football coach. There has been stories out UCF has some fund raising in progress to address the facility needs and beef up the spending on football coaches - but the number for Frost and his staff TOTAL was around $1M (on top of what is paid now). I don't see adding $2M+ on top of that just for Frost. Maybe they found a sugar daddy - but I think it more likely this is what alot of this reporting as been - chatter lacking facts. I think Frost saying no deal is in place was factual - but if there is a bidding war in progress it is Nebraska vs. Florida. Tennessee had the cash to jump in.....but not sure they want to especially if Gruden is on the hook.

But how much can they afford to pay the assistants?

Thats the biggest issue IMO. Nebraska can offer so much more in terms of paying his assistants. From what I heard that is more of an issue for Frost than his pay. Not saying he doesn't care about his $ but he knows he is going to get paid, he wants to make sure his assistants make $250K to $900K per year would be my guess and UCF cant afford that along with his salary.

This is Scotts chance. He has had the interest to come here multiple times. I would honestly be shocked if he didn't based on his prior consistent interest. I mean look at the man's life...he has always came back to Nebraska looking to contribute over and over again.

UCF if it could fill its stands consistently and if they put up even a 50000 seat concrete stadium with room for expansion, and they fill that sucker every weekend will get into a P5 sooner rather than later. But they have to keep winning.

UCFs problems and our problems are both fixed by the same cure and that is no more than winning.

I remembered you saying that, but I didn't put two and two together. So you think the numbers in this tweet are accurate? Do you think this might have been leaked today to turn up the pressure on Frost to sign now?

I haven't heard, and can't figure out how UCF can afford it.

you claimed it was a rumor.

You must be new here.

So, the rumor goes...

My opinion is that IF Scott Frost wanted to stay a UCF he would have already said it and signed an extension that they have more than definitely offered him already. He may not end up at Nebraska but I would bet he isn’t at UCF either
This. Frost is not going to stay at UCF. If he were, he would have said so by now and signed the new contract (if that story is even true). In my humble opinion, Frost is going to end up either at Nebraska or Oregon. Tuco nailed it above... it all depends on Kelly. If Kelly goes to UCLA and Taggert goes to Florida, then there is a very, very good chance Frost goes back to Oregon. We really need to keep our fingers crossed that Kelly goes to Florida.

My brother has been down in Florida for a few weeks, he said UCF is (obviously) working major overtime to keep Frost. He heard early last week about the uptick on their offer, they’re chomping at the bit in hopes of Frost agreeing so they can announce his staying asap. Doesn’t seem Scott is hurrying the process along like they want. Laughing

UCF can't win a bidding war but I do think he will or already has an offer that may be as high as 3.5 million a year with an increase for Chins & all the assistants.

UCF has richer donors than most outsiders realize and the Athletic Director has a very high pledge that would go into effect if Frost decides to stay. Whether or not Frost stays UCF AD Danny White is a Superstar. He might be the first UCF AD to get Disney invested & if that ends up happening it would change UCF's Program forever.

That would be huge, for sure. Like when Moos brought Phil Knight in as a booster at Oregon, wish he could do the same with Warren Buffet here.

My question now is, will Chip be kind and let his friend Frost do what he wants most? Being based out here in southern California, UCLA is a very difficult job to take over. It is constantly overshadowed by USC. Think of the current UCLA program like Texas Tech is to Texas, only in Brentwood, CA. Most of the high school recruits choose USC over UCLA. If Chip really loves college football and wants to have recruiting easy, Florida is the better job. Let's hope he is nice to his friend Scott Frost and let's everything work itself out the way it is supposed to:D

I agree completely. UCLA has far less upside than Florida.

Thank you grayhairedfreak. I think too many variables are still in play. I would think it would be Frost, but Chip Kelly is really holding all of the cards. If UCLA makes a push and a big time money commitment to Kelly, then Florida has to go to plan B. If Plan B is Taggart, I think Frost goes to Oregon. If Plan B is Frost, well that's pretty self explanatory. Gun to my head, right now, I say Frost, but if Kelly goes anywhere but Florida, all bets are off.

What's the Taggart to UF connection? He's not exactly lighting it up in his first year at Oregon...why would UF want him?

Why would Scott stay at UCF? He has put in his time and now has a chance to move on to bigger and better things. That's the natural progression of things. Whether it's Nebraska or not, now is his time. Go for it and get that dream job!

The guy who tweeted this is a journalism student at Ohio University. I doubt he has inside information from UCF's athletic department.

^^This^^
He's also the "color commentator for Ohio Bobcats women's basketball, volleyball and fill in for other Ohio University sports broadcasts." according to his LinkedIn profile.

He is as good of a source as my cat.

He went to the same high school at Tommie Frazier I believe. Believe he was the coach at Western Kentucky when we got Brion Carnes (where he played QB). Then went to S. Florida, and then Oregon. He's not legendary to the level TF was (in high school), but he is well known, well liked, and he'd probably win a lot of recruiting battles with FSU and Miami. Now is he a great coach?

So you’re one of the hottest coaching targets in the country, several big jobs become available and he should be patient? He may not get another chance like this..

Makes sense to be patient though..
these P5 jobs are opening every 3 years, fanbases and administrations have no patience anymore. He will always have options and the chances of 'his stock' dropping if very low with the advantages he has at UCF relative to the rest of the conference.

What do you think they do, if they don't get Kelly? I always assumed they would end up with Mullen, but their doesn't seem to be much mutual interest there.
They want Frost but I don't think he has interest in them. If they strike out with Kelly maybe Norvell or the complete darkhorse in Toledo's Candle who has Florida ties. They want offense so that leaves out Charlie Strong as a backup option

The problem for UCF is Danny White won’t be at UCF much longer either.
