Hardly a surprise. Last year's QB play was the difference between a winning season and a 5-7 season (yet despite those horrible turnover issues all but 1 of those 7 losses were still competitive). Those QB turnovers were just absolute gut-wrenching killers last year BUT it's time to move on this year with better QB performance. Think by now we've already covered and analyzed every possible aspect from last year so it's time to bury those problems from last year.Just saw where Purdy and Sims both lost their QB battles and will be carrying clipboards this season. So all of last season's QBs will be backups this season.
I do...NU needs to run the plays that they are going to also run against "good teams"So you think Nebraska going to show any of their hand before the Colorado game?
38 seems little high for a program that hasn’t scored more than that only 7 times in 5 years.
UTEP may not even get in the end zone…
I haven't confirmed if true, but supposedly he wasn't in the building for like 3 weeks and Deion just now noticed.Colorado just lost their ST coach about 8 days before their opener, so all is well in Boulder.
tbf, Haarberg wasn't developed much as a QB in HS, had a coach on his way to being fired in first year, and was ghosted by his coach the next. Then last year he was pressed into service regardless of the fact he wasn't really ready to operate the passing aspects of the playbook. They shrunk the playbook to passes that would work for him and added some option offense, which suited his skills. In reality, Ron Brown and TO were probably as responsible for the offensive production we did get as much as Satt and Rhule.
Raiola and Kaelin are more suited to do the things Satt and Rhule want done.
Unless HH is named the starter, the debate about his QB skills doesn't really matter any more. It's been done thoroughly already and now it's like beating a dead horse at this point. They will find a role for HH that fits his talents and gets him on the field but it is NOT the starting QB.I understand all the reasons HH is who he is. I won't even debate that. All I'm saying is "he is who he is" I guess. Imo that's not a legit D1 QB. Great kid for sure but he doesn't inspire confidence from me to be perfectly honest. Simply based on what I've seen and what I think our coaches wanna run.

What happened to Dante Dowdell? He had a pretty good spring game, but I haven't heard much about him since. Then again, I haven't been reading every possible thing that's been happening with the team since then, so maybe I missed somthing. If Ervin gets more than 5 carries in the game he will probably be injured and lost for the season.
He's been getting some mentions recently. Based on all of the comments on the running game there is no one standing out and so if you go show out in a game, there is a chance you could win the job. Looks like the Johnsons will probably be the first two with Gabe and Dowdell possibly getting some time. What happened to Dante Dowdell? Even though he was all everything in Minnesota, I was unimpressed with Johnson's high school film. But, that kid is really quick. He's been getting some mentions recently. No idea. He looks slow to me. But what do I know? What happened to Dante Dowdell? He had a pretty good spring game, but I haven't heard much about him since. Then again, I haven't been reading every possible thing that's been happening with the team since then, so maybe I missed somthing.
How many backup QBs other than Brook have inspired confidence? Not many. I believe with a year under his belt now that Haarberg could win some games for us if need be. I have more faith in him than Kaelin.I understand all the reasons HH is who he is. I won't even debate that. All I'm saying is "he is who he is" I guess. Imo that's not a legit D1 QB. “He could win some games for us”. Yes he could. Like Matt Turman. But you would need the defense to carry the team, just as when Turman started against KSU in 94. And if Haarberg is our starter for more than 2 games he is as likely lo lose some games for us as win some. He is a turnover machine who, if we had any real depth at the QB position, would be playing tight end or safety. How many backup QBs other than Brook have inspired confidence? Not many. The other option would be a guy whohas no chance of winning games for us. Haarberg is a better QB than Turman was. It’s not that close. Pennsy I’m a little disappointed in how negative you are about HH. I don’t think he’s an upper tier P5 QB, but damn I’m glad we have him.“He could win some games for us”. Yes he could. Yes he is better than Turman. A much better overall athlete. But that is a low bar. And I am down on HH because I watched him play last year. Take away our much improved defense and he would not have won a single game he started in. And he was a turnover machine. I am disappointed in your overly optimistic appraisal of him. Last year’s offense was the worst offense at Nebraska since about 1968. Not all of that was his fault, but much of it was. He was the starting QB for the worst offense in modern NU history. Iowa levels of offensive ineptitude. The other option would be a guy whohas no chance of winning games for us. Haarberg is a better QB than Turman was. It’s not that close. might be. if you are more than a td behind and need to go to the pass to score quickly. right now am interested to see if the qb coach has improved hh's throwing significantly. who knows at this point?I believe JG was 25-1 and a national championship winner and runner up, albeit in a lower division.. If we ever wind up in a pinch, that is the guy I'm probably looking at to save the day. I think HH is going to be okay as the general backup, but to me, if a game is on the line type thing, HH is 3rd string.

He had literally never been coached by a college QB coach until this offseason.Yes he is better than Turman. A much better overall athlete. But that is a low bar. I know some on here think we should not rag publicly on our players. I disagree. I agree we should not get personal, but an objective critique is just fine in my view on a message board. And I think this is an important issue. I love Rhule. I think he will get us back on track. And so I think it important to defend him from criticism over our record last year. And that defense is the fact that he inherited a QB room that was a total laughing stock. A complete shitfest. Thank God we landed Dylan and Danny. Our future is bright. But I criticize Haarberg in order to pump the brakes on the runaway optimism freight train that has raised expectations so high that if we don’t meet them folks will start trashing Rhule.
HH is not a P5 QB. And if DR gets injured and we are forced to play HH, I just hope fans are patient enough to endure another losing season.
What do you think they did? They just put him in a corner by himself? He had literally never been coached by a college QB coach until this offseason.
He wasn’t the reason we got blanked in November.
I expect him to play well when called upon.
Why do you expect him to play well? Based on what? He did not play well last year despite your claims and those of the other HH apologists. I repeat for the hundredth time: every game we won last year was because of our defense and in spite of our offense. In spite of HH and his errant passes, turnovers, and misreads. He had literally never been coached by a college QB coach until this offseason.

The level of talent he was playing against was not great. HH as a backup probably is our best chance if Raiola goes down. That year of experience coupled with working with a QB in the off season IS in FACT a big deal. Hopefully we don’t have to find out what our backups can do in a meaningful situation.I believe JG was 25-1 and a national championship winner and runner up, albeit in a lower division.. Agreed. I posted several times last season that HH was neither as good as some thought or as bad as some thought. The kid had no effective college level QB coaching and was running for his life due to injuries on the Oline. He wasn't expected to be the starting QB, but was forced into it after Simms glamed out. We all want to think linearly but life often isn't like that. Context, context, context. The level of talent he was playing against was not great. The disdain for Haarberg is befuddling for me. Yeah he frustrated me last year too, but it wasn’t all on him. Kong’s man crush was embarrassing but HH doesnt deserve the negativity. IF he was cocky and pissing on the fans I could understand it but he’s not.
no doubt HH will make a big jump this year, but he seems to still be turnover prone.. that is my concern with some of the complete giveaways that coach Rhule talked about recently that we just can't have if we are going to win games. I think the kid has a lot of talent and leadership though so I'm hoping for his success along with everyone else. The level of talent he was playing against was not great. His WR corps was embarrassing and his tops RBs were out or fumbled constantly. And while the oline was the best it has been in recent memory, it still wasn’t good.Agreed. Because he has coaching and experienceWhy do you expect him to play well? Based on what? He did not play well last year despite your claims and those of the other HH apologists. Perhaps he will be better with a new QB coach. Perhaps. But that has yet to be proven. All I know is he instills in me no confidence that we can have a successful season if he is our starter.
Good kid. Great athlete. Good teammate and regardless of what teams he beat last year, he won some games with a patchwork roster. Damned glad we have him.His WR corps was embarrassing and his tops RBs were out or fumbled constantly. And while the oline was the best it has been in recent memory, it still wasn’t good.
The kid plays hard. He’s a freak athlete, but he is extremely limited as a QB. I agree with you, he’s not as bad as some think or as good as others claim.
At the moment, he is a serviceable, at best, backup QB. And I’m happy to have him.
He fumbled 15 times last year. that might have something to do with it.The other option would be a guy whohas no chance of winning games for us. Haarberg is a better QB than Turman was. It’s not that close. Pennsy I’m a little disappointed in how negative you are about HH. I don’t think he’s an upper tier P5 QB, but damn I’m glad we have him.
I like the kid. He has heart. But damn. You turnover the ball that any times? At a normal school, he wouldn't get on the field with that many mistakes. No question. The level of talent he was playing against was not great. HH as a backup probably is our best chance if Raiola goes down. That year of experience coupled with working with a QB in the off season IS in FACT a big deal. Hopefully we don’t have to find out what our backups can do in a meaningful situation.

Heard when Deion found him, he told Deion,I haven't confirmed if true, but supposedly he wasn't in the building for like 3 weeks and Deion just now noticed.
I’ve not heard anyone say he’s the best O linemen but IF it was true it shouldn’t be surprising given Frost’s recruiting and the fact that he’s started at both of his previous stopsThe RB's and the O line. Could be the downfall. The Fla kid is already the best lineman after 4 months. That says a lot.
Please show us where you got that number. How many of his fumbles were strip sacks or bad snaps as well. We’ll wait. Yeah he turned the ball over way more than you want but there were factors contributing to that.He fumbled 15 times last year. that might have something to do with it.
I'm hopeful that Scott at C, Mazzucca at RG and Benhart at RT can be above average because they have good size, a history of staying healthy, and ton of experience.I’ve not heard anyone say he’s the best O linemen but IF it was true it shouldn’t be surprising given Frost’s recruiting and the fact that he’s started at both of his previous stops
You have stated within the past month you wouldn’t be surprised if chubba - 3rd string at Nevada and winner of zero games in 4+ years of college - gets a shot in the NFLThe level of talent he was playing against was not great. No offense brother, but no QB last year was "by far the best" at anything. You have stated within the past month you wouldn’t be surprised if chubba - 3rd string at Nevada and winner of zero games in 4+ years of college - gets a shot in the NFL
But me stating the obvious - that HH was by far our best QB last year - was embarrassing
Can’t make it up, folks!
