If Ervin gets more than 5 carries in the game he will probably be injured and lost for the season.
Hardly a surprise. Last year's QB play was the difference between a winning season and a 5-7 season (yet despite those horrible turnover issues all but 1 of those 7 losses were still competitive). Those QB turnovers were just absolute gut-wrenching killers last year BUT it's time to move on this year with better QB performance. Think by now we've already covered and analyzed every possible aspect from last year so it's time to bury those problems from last year.

It is not like one game on film is going to really reveal all that much anyway.
I haven't confirmed if true, but supposedly he wasn't in the building for like 3 weeks and Deion just now noticed.
I understand all the reasons HH is who he is. I won't even debate that. All I'm saying is "he is who he is" I guess. Imo that's not a legit D1 QB. Great kid for sure but he doesn't inspire confidence from me to be perfectly honest. Simply based on what I've seen and what I think our coaches wanna run.

Unless HH is named the starter, the debate about his QB skills doesn't really matter any more. It's been done thoroughly already and now it's like beating a dead horse at this point. They will find a role for HH that fits his talents and gets him on the field but it is NOT the starting QB.
What happened to Dante Dowdell? He had a pretty good spring game, but I haven't heard much about him since. Then again, I haven't been reading every possible thing that's been happening with the team since then, so maybe I missed somthing.
He's been getting some mentions recently. Based on all of the comments on the running game there is no one standing out and so if you go show out in a game, there is a chance you could win the job. Looks like the Johnsons will probably be the first two with Gabe and Dowdell possibly getting some time.
Even though he was all everything in Minnesota, I was unimpressed with Johnson's high school film. But, that kid is really quick.
Dowdell is a big kid with an ability to run hard. I assume he still is learning how to run smart. And he has less familiarity with the playbook than the others. He’s essentially the second big back behind Gabe and I would think they might redshirt him unless Gabe gets injured..
How many backup QBs other than Brook have inspired confidence? Not many. I believe with a year under his belt now that Haarberg could win some games for us if need be. I have more faith in him than Kaelin.
“He could win some games for us”. Yes he could. Like Matt Turman. But you would need the defense to carry the team, just as when Turman started against KSU in 94. And if Haarberg is our starter for more than 2 games he is as likely lo lose some games for us as win some. He is a turnover machine who, if we had any real depth at the QB position, would be playing tight end or safety.
The other option would be a guy whohas no chance of winning games for us. Haarberg is a better QB than Turman was. It’s not that close. Pennsy I’m a little disappointed in how negative you are about HH. I don’t think he’s an upper tier P5 QB, but damn I’m glad we have him.
Yes he is better than Turman. A much better overall athlete. But that is a low bar. And I am down on HH because I watched him play last year. Take away our much improved defense and he would not have won a single game he started in. And he was a turnover machine. I am disappointed in your overly optimistic appraisal of him. Last year’s offense was the worst offense at Nebraska since about 1968. Not all of that was his fault, but much of it was. He was the starting QB for the worst offense in modern NU history. Iowa levels of offensive ineptitude.
I know some on here think we should not rag publicly on our players. I disagree. I agree we should not get personal, but an objective critique is just fine in my view on a message board. And I think this is an important issue. I love Rhule. I think he will get us back on track. And so I think it important to defend him from criticism over our record last year. And that defense is the fact that he inherited a QB room that was a total laughing stock. A complete shitfest. Thank God we landed Dylan and Danny. Our future is bright. But I criticize Haarberg in order to pump the brakes on the runaway optimism freight train that has raised expectations so high that if we don’t meet them folks will start trashing Rhule.
HH is not a P5 QB. And if DR gets injured and we are forced to play HH, I just hope fans are patient enough to endure another losing season.
I believe JG was 25-1 and a national championship winner and runner up, albeit in a lower division.. If we ever wind up in a pinch, that is the guy I'm probably looking at to save the day. I think HH is going to be okay as the general backup, but to me, if a game is on the line type thing, HH is 3rd string.

might be. if you are more than a td behind and need to go to the pass to score quickly. right now am interested to see if the qb coach has improved hh's throwing significantly. who knows at this point?
He had literally never been coached by a college QB coach until this offseason.
He wasn’t the reason we got blanked in November.
I expect him to play well when called upon.
What do you think they did? They just put him in a corner by himself?
