They were discussing on Sharpe and Handley and thought it was interesting. Who does Nebraska pursue?

Zane Flores - Does he come home?

Lincoln Kleinholz

FCS record type guy who is ready to make the jump

Playoff Contender who is stuck behind a good starter

Thoughts? I had heard rumbling of Lincoln Kleinholz and that could be good. Anyone hear how Zane looks at OSU?

I prefer someone who has started, no matter the level. Taking a young backup who doesn't have experience is somewhat risky. It's really not that hard at this point. Don't need an NFL guy. Just a qb who can hit open receivers and run 8 yards for a 1st down occasionally.

Just being able to field a snap would be a great place to start

Hopefully the main criteria here is "ability to complete a basic forward pass without causing the recipient to grow go-go-gadget arms, contort his body like Houdini, or break off his route completely because the ball is going to land 30 feet from where it's supposed to be"

There are 5 QB's on the roster, and apparently none of them have this capability.

If we have 5 brand new (to us) faces in that QB room next season, it will be a step forward.

This is good stuff!

4 of the top 9 transfer QBs from this past class are currently sporting worse TD:INT ratios than our starting QB

1 is leading his team to a better record than the previous year (DJ U @ OreSt)

Every one knows we need to go to the portal for our QB next season especially Rhule and Satterfield..

You’re the only that thinks we don’t..

if you can find a post from me saying so, it would go a long way to prove your point.

but, sadly for you and @SomedayHusker, that post doesn't exist because I have never said anything close to it.

sorry, friends. disappointed & wrong again.

Rhule absolutely should've been more aggressive in the RB transfer portal this past offseason. Anthony Grant is unplayable at this point. anyone who thought he was a difference maker clearly doesn't know shit about football.

if you'd like to talk about stats/facts comparing transfer QBs in their first year with Haarberg, I'm very here for it. I believe many folks are quick to say "portal" with zero knowledge of what comes out of it, especially in year 1.

Agree. Also several examples of QBs moving from FCS to FBS (p5) and leading teams to winning records and bowl games.
list? would be interested to see them.

I also believe this route would be our best bet for an immediate impact as we've seen it at other positions.

these P5 also rans don't pan out and stats prove it. there are very few exceptions to this rule that people who are clueless love to point to (Joe Burrow! Justin Fields!).

care to make it interesting?

I'll bet the 2024 starting QB is, indeed, on the roster.

name your number.
Ope…there it is. If you’re not talking about HH, then I guess you think Sims or Purdy is starting next year? Even willing to bet “any amount” on it.

”Never said anything close to it” 😂😂

where do I say we shouldn't pursue a transfer?

oh, that's right, nowhere.

I believe we should and will pursue a transfer. and I believe that transfer will not start week 1.

still willing to bet on that if you're interested. you never responded last time. wonder why?

Oh so you want to pursue a transfer that won’t start, in other words NOT pursue a transfer lol. In other words, you want HH to start, which is what you just said that you never said.

I would never bet a multi-screen name HH troll from the internet. I’d sooner donate to the Nigerian Prince’s college fund.

feel free to look at the 1st year transfer stats I'm posting in the other thread.

it's hard to find a productive 1st year starter in the portal. few exist.

just a dose of reality for you.

and LOL at your second paragraph. sounds like you're a pussy to me.

Yep. I’m a huge pussy because I won’t bet money with King “I never said that” Kong. I’ll bet you message board clout how about that? HH won’t start for the Huskers week one next season.

Jeff Sims was a huge offseason acquisition for Nebraska and new head coach Matt Rhule. Sims began the season as the starter for the Huskers but struggled mightily in his first two outings, tossing four interceptions, one touchdown. He also had several fumbles.

On the verge of being benched, Sims was injured in Week 3 and relieved by sophomore Heinrich Haarberg, who has won four out of the last five games for Nebraska but has only completed 51% of his throws for five touchdowns and four interceptions. That said, he leads the team in rushing and has done some great things with his legs. Is Haarberg the quarterback of the future for Nebraska? Taylor Martinez comparisons aside, it's tough to say, but there will surely be some change in the quarterback room at Nebraska, and for that reason this situation feels an awful lot like Illinois', where it doesn't really matter who leaves but more so matters if anybody of higher quality can come in.

Florida State transfer Chubba Purdy — yes, the younger brother of Brock — is also on the roster and has thrown two passes this season.

I like the logic of this route too. Right now I can only think of Ward at Wazzou and Muskett at Virginia as recent examples but neither has a winning record this year.

only 10% of last year's top 29 transfer QBs (not counting S Sanders) are having more success in year 1 at their new school than they'd had prior to transferring

3 out of 29

guessing that will be news to dumbass sharpe

Jeff Sims will probably land at a very small FBS school after this season.
Chubba Purdy will probably land at a very small FBS school after this season.
HH will be a fairly capable back-up QB for us next year.
Bell West QB will most likely need 2 years of prep before being able to do much.

If I am a potential xfer QB - I am thinking long and hard about joining Nebraska's team. We really are *1* solid QB away from being 7-2 (not saying we beat CU), with a look at finishing out 10-2. We have lots of young skill players that will be back next year, along with a very good defense and sturdy special teams. This is a dream scenario for a skilled QB.

With all this said - I'm not going to monitor who it may be that comes in til January. We got a chance at beating Maryland to go to a bowl game and lots of fun left in this current season. We're 1 win away from hitting our season goal, so there isn't much of a reason to look too forward to future seasons quite yet.

Austin Reed at Western Kentucky is FBS but not P5. Vernon Adams is another from a few years ago.

Ward also let Washington St to a bowl game in 2022

the problem is many of yall are applying NFL logic to college football

teams in the NFL often find themselves in the "just a QB away" situations, and that's just rarely the case for college.

NFL success ---> star QB, good coach.

it's no coincidence that the best teams in the NFL are the ones with the best QB. talent is relatively equal amongst teams, QB is the difference maker. i'd argue that in the NFL, you don't need a genius coach, you need a competent one. is anybody really believing Zac Taylor is responsible for the Bengals success?

College success ---> great coach, great lines

the top teams in college dominate the line and make intelligent coaching decisions. Drake Maye and Caleb Williams have the same record as starters this year as HH. i'm sure one of yall will interpret that as "b-b-but he said HH was as good as the likely #1 & #2 picks". obviously not, but he's good enough to win games.

until the o-line makes massive strides, I'm not ready write HH off, put him in the same bucket as Sims, or pretend plugging anybody else in is they secret recipe.

be honest with yourself, you can't think of a single noteworthy QB play from Ohio State or Georgia this year.

That dude is pretty good , I believe he was a 5 star. He's got good team that surrounds him and a coach who was a good QB back in the day.

Drake Maye is 7-2 with 2.8K passing yards and 26 total touchdowns and 5 ints

Caleb 7-3 with 2.9k passing yards 38 total tds and 4 ints

HH is 5-2 with 900 yards passing 12 total tds and 6 ints

1 has a top 20 defense, 2 have bottom 90+ defense

Jonathan Smith has revived Oregon State and had the program in good shape for DJ U to step in and succeed. OSU has better lines and is a much more physical, tougher team under Smith.
