OT: Why is Warren Buffet always ahead of the game?

Is there anyone in their mid-40’s factoring social security into their retirement equation? I think of it as a nice to have bonus.
I'm not factoring it in at current payment rates but I think it's demise is greatly exaggerated. Political suicide to get rid of it and we would probably pay a lot of it out in other forms of assistance anyway.

They are never "getting rid of it" but it makes for great theater and it freaks out a lot of would-be normal people.

Just like in the 80's when they had a bunch of WWIII made for TV movies, "nukes" were going to kill us all.

I remember that. If I recall correctly, they told us to get under our desks in case of a nuclear attack. Have they revised that guidance?

Hell no. I’m assuming I’ll get zero.
Based on much of what each of you have said all along, I suspect you guys will be just fine, with or without it. The biggest failure many people have is they "assume" that SS will be there for them, and I can see it going away before too many years.

They constantly raise the retirement age, so they have the advantage of older folks passing away before they draw that much money. Others, like my mom drew it for about 35 years or so, and she made diddly squat in her working career.

It's a terribly unfair system when millions will likely have it involuntarily taken from their paychecks with no real guarantee they'll get anything when it becomes their time.

It isn't going away. It's a wildly popular program that politicians and citizens alike have shown a tolerance for funding no matter the costs. Tweaks. Sure. Eliminated. No chance.

I didn't SAY it was going away, I said I can "SEE" it going away.
You have a next level normalcy bias.

I don't see it going away. For the same reasons I posted above. People have been predicting it's demise since I was a kid and it just continues to become more ingrained in our society.

Is that better for you?
