OT. Anyone fight with spouse about money?

I ran a small college. People are required to go through a student loan process before accepting it. I have watched hundreds if not thousands go through it and they just sit and sign. People are not good at looking into the future.

The feds make such crazy and ridiculously difficult rules, the private sector does not want to get involved nearly as much these days if at all. You make one tiny mistake or fail to notify at any interval and the government will come along and use it as a reason to forgive and blame the banks.

We have created a play now and pay later society in all areas, not just student loans. We encouraged both of our kids to get good grades and ACT scores to help pay for college, it helps. I was doing my grad work at Fort Hays and one class was on Student Services. There was a student there who worked right up to getting a degree, within a handful of credit hours and would not finish only to take out more loans and start on a second and then third degree, never finishing any of them. I can't remember where it finally got to, I think the fifth one the government shut the student off, geez, what a concept.

Colleges offer some of the most worthless degrees imaginable. It doesn't matter if there are enough jobs, they always have a story about someone getting a job in that area. Colleges have an endless supply of money coming from an unsuspecting populace guaranteed by you and I. What could go wrong? Perhaps the government should come back on those schools for some of the money, that would change things in a hurry.
Good post. My nephew is working on a degree in history. I asked him what the hell he’s gonna do with that. He could teach high school and that’s about it. Very limited career path otherwise . I think he has seen the light.

Just read that by 2033 social security payments will exceed social security tax revenue so expect social security payments to be reduced. This this the stuff the stupid gubment should be working on instead of all the stupid hopeless green spending.
SS ponzi scheme about to dry up. It’ll become an entitlement for the “poor”.

Im just worried about when they decide to come after iras and 401ks. Not a question of “if”, but when? The outcome depends on how dumb america is by then and just how much lefties will sell their soul to agree with their leaders. By recent history theyd be ok with it.

I totally agree with you. The people in DC have totally failed us. Any city of any size have homeless drug addicts that are just total lost causes. I feel bad for these folks but this country can only do so much and eventually you have to be responsible for your actions. Every city I have been in this summer I have had to walk caress the street to avoid aggressive homeless druggies. Inflation is gutting middle class America, the wide open border is only putting additional pressure on the system. In ten more years we will not recognize this country.
The people in dc have failed us, but they havent failed.

They are succeeding in what they want to do. Obama was one of them. The media is complacent.

Destroy America.

Better tell him to get a teaching degree.

Man I need one redone and the other done for the first time. The right knee and ankle are shit too though so I guess I’ll just keep limpin along. I keep thinking I’ll die before I can’t walk anymore and have to get ‘em done
dingle, I don't want to poke my nose in your business, but let me give you a real life example regarding the hip.
First of all, guys like you and I have done a lot of damage over the years to our joints and body in general. Of course, we are all breaking down at this age.

About a month ago I got an xray on my hips and although its not totally bone on bone, the cartilage is depleted down to almost nothing. If I walk very far, I'm talking a couple blocks, both hips really fire up and I would get to wobbling and have to stop for a couple minutes and let them "cool" off. But. I've never considered hip surgery.

When I started talking Peptides, primarily BPC-157 the research has shown it is very good at repairing and even replenishing areas that the body needs. Within 2 weeks, I could walk the entire distance, I had ZERO pain in my right hip and just a bit in my left hip. My mobility and ability to walk normally is close to when I was a healthier young man. It continues to get better and better.

I also had some edema, swelling of the feet and lower legs. The peptide is well researched in repairing and replenishing the blood vessels in all parts of the body, all the way to the heart, brain, etc. Within about 10 days, the daily swelling in my feet and legs had reduced itself significantly. They still swell slightly, but the difference is noticeable.

It seems since it is gastric juice which begins in the Intestinal Tract, that is the area which is first repaired. I take prednisone and NSAIDS and they are not good for the stomach lining. People have raved that they were chronic., long term sufferers of ulcers and IBS and many were essentially painfree in a matter of days. Of course, we all have different bodies. My assumption is since the stomach is the starting point of the Peptides repair work, the stomach issues are first up and then the peptide just seems to go from body part to body part repairing the damage.

No doubt with all our physical breakdown over the years, it takes some people longer than others, and I really hadn't noticed any difference the first week or so, then I started to see legitimate improvement. They're pretty amazing.

Of course, I know you're a well-educated, well-researched man, and I'm not suggesting anything here, other than you considering the use of peptides. If, by chance it could begin the repair on your hips, ankles, etc, it very well could save you a lot of pain, a lot recovery time, and of course, a lot of money. FWIW

Thanks

The question I pose is this: how many genders are there? If a male dog has his gonads removed, does that make him a female?

Right? He was such a piece of work...gawd I disliked him and to make matters worse his dad owns a successful biz he couod have went to work for...instead he fights with him all the time because he thinks his dad is part of the problem....and to make it even worse...pretty much everyone in the acting department at that college feels the same way about genders and capitalism.

My adopted son graduated from Iowa with a degree in Drama. He went to Hollywood and became an actor. Appeared in 4 movies, many television shows, and did 2 Super Bowl commercials. Left the U of Iowa a total LEFTY.

Over the years, he, my son and I have had lots of conversations of conversative v. liberal. It took him about 5 years and he has done a complete 180. Not only has he seen the idiocy of liberalism, but he now is the head of the GOP Party in Los Angeles.

As to your former, "almost" son-in-law he appears hopeless and thank goodness your step daughter got rid of that cancer.

It's too bad that young man's dad doesn't kick his ass out and let him take his show on the road and save himself the aggravation.

If he's so opposed to capitalism, what the hell's he doing working at Starbucks? That''s kinda capaitalistic.

That's the epitome of the sense of entitlement that he and millions of young people now have.

My son is without a doubt my best male friend in the world, and my wife and daughter are my 2 best female friends.

But, growing up, I made no bones about it, Mom and I are the boss, we make the rules. It wasn't subject to debate.

I’ve had extensive arthritis in multiple joints for over about 15 years with extensive remodeling of both hips and multiple disc spaces in my neck and back. I did a LOT of high impact activities in to my forties from 3x/week full court basketball to high country backpacking even after my first hip replacement on my 50th birthday. I don’t play basketball anymore but I still get after it with chain saws and shovels way too much. It’s just the way I’ve attacked things my whole life.

With the degree of deterioration of multiple joints I have, it’s kind of beyond anything other than surgical repair. I have 2 lumbar and 1 cervical vertebral spaces that have pretty well fused on their own. I tore an ACL in my late teens and didn’t know it until my late 30s. Never had it fixed and that knee is my best knee now. Bone on bone in every joint in my right leg now but I’m still getting around. I can go most of the day working at the ranch on my feet before they bother me much. I just like to whine. The worst thing for me is sitting or standing still for more than about an hour. 😉

I did heavy Alleve combined with Tylenol up until about 8 years ago. I only do steroids now once or twice a year for breathing issues. When I do, I feel like Superman. I’ll put in 12 hour days until I quit the prednisone.

He must be taking education classes as well. Generally, although schools/states are getting desperate and creating alternate certification routes, he would need a teaching license to teach history in addition to his history classes. I have found most pure history grads work in museums and such places with jobs few and far between.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me shake my head. Like a music degree - I have known several people get those degrees so its like this - do you plan to teach music? No, I just want a degree in music. So how will use this degree to actually make a living - Oh I will do music therapy, they tell me people can make a lot of money doing that or I can work at a music store (forgot to tell them that is a minimum pay job and music stores hardly exist anymore) or I can teach private lessons but they need to be very proficient in all instruments and it takes a long time at weird hours to develop a client base.

There is NO form of economy that has created richer people and helped poor people become rich, than capitalism.

There is not one negative thing about that system.

Do some people have a better starting point? Sure, but that would happen no matter what,

It is really simple. The second there were two people...there was one that had more. The second there were 3 people, there were no more secretes.

There is 100+ years of data that has been compiled that literally tells that to just NOT be broke, all you have to do is graduate HS, get a full time job and not have kids until you are married.

That is it...that is the bare minimum you have to do to be "okay", the rest is totally up to the person. But you are basically starting off in a decent spot.

People that hate capitalism do not understand how good they have it.

@dinglefritz @itseasyas1-2-3 how much stretching, weight lifting, hot/cold exposure do you do?

Genuinely curious
None. My issues are just having worn out cartilage. I did dislocate my left shoulder my senior year of football and I sat out 30 minutes of practice. I was going to a golf reunion about 10 years ago and that shoulder was bothering me a little so I went in to get a shot. My doc did an MRI and I had a full thickness rotator cuff tear. The radiologist couldn’t believe I could use my arm. I said yeah it’s hurt a little every now and then for the last 38 years

Apparently I have a high pain threshold. I’ve used and abused my body since I was a kid. When I was about 13 we would buy semi loads of hay. The driver would back in to our barn and kick 60-70 pound bales off and I drug them to the pile and stacked them by myself. I couldn’t have weighed more than 130 lbs then. It’s kind of the way I’ve rolled my whole life.

I like bands because they can mitigate any potential for straining. My actual area of expertise is in Exercise Physiology.
From 1971 my focus was discovering how everything worked in our bodies.

That's why, among other things, I've been a true believer in the bar hang, as it allows blood to return to its natural position and state, and avoids any pooling of blood in the muscles.

When I was lifting, I always did a concentric then an eccentric lift. I also always went light/heavy/medium, or medium/heavy/light, etc., and that led to never having a strength imbalance, and frankly, was one of the reasons my son was such a great athlete. We used RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) and Pro Ice after any practice or throwing session, and that allowed my son to have a healthy, injury free arm his entire career.

I ditched any conventional lifts way back in the 70's and began Olympic lifts.

For the old guys, this, I think this is the greatest way to stretch. I do it first thing in the morning when my coffee is brewing.

I get to the corner of my kitchen counter, and if you use your imagination, you can stretch any part of your body, you don't overstress anything, the counter acts as a great way to not lose your balance and you can remain really flexible as a result.

Build yourself a little sauna & sit in it for 5mins at the end of each day

Morning shower w coldest water (90seconds - it sucks ass and you’ll dread it but that’s good for you too lol)

Yoga (sounds girly/stupid, is not) 3x/week (30mins)

all really good for joints/breathing, too. free decade’s worth of time reversal no matter what else you’re up to (booze, diet, etc)

I'm really pro heat and less pro cold simply due to age. I like sauna, but I moreso enjoy just being on my deck when the weather is nice and drinking in the Vit D. For those that may not know, the thighs are the best area to have direct sunlight.

Bigtime employ ice, mostly as a helpful way after muscle stress. When I was younger, I did enjoy a really cold shower, but as I got older I struggled to get past the "shrinkage" issue.

My kids are young , we’ve got time to save and who knows what they will want to pursue after high school. Just need to get started.
You are way ahead of where I was at that age. I told my kids when they started high school if any of them if they got a full ride through college, we would buy them a new car when they graduated. Our daughter did get a Regents with room and board. We were able to help some and they all had to work to help out. We felt that having them vested in the financial end of things they would pay more attention. It all worked out, but we felt the groundwork had been laidout before they left home. We could have had them commute the 25 miles, but decided it was time to give them enough rope to hang themselves. It all worked out, but there was some trying times. Trust me it was probably as scary for Mom and Dad as the kids. The fact that you want to help them out speaks volumes about the kind of people you are, in my humble opinion. As far as the wife, can't help you out at all!!! I can be a smart ass and we will have been married 50 years next February. She loves to argue, so still today I just say I guess the honey moon is over. Warms her right up. Wish your family all the best.

Thanks countrybob, I took the wife out on a long drive /date last weekend and we had a really good conversation about our future and how we’d like to see it play out for us and the kids. We were able to compromise on a few things and we are going to combine finances and have 1 checking and 1 savings account. Glad I was able to get some good advice from fellow husker fans.

75% of that article is bullshit.
The article reminded me of grain marketing seminars, I used to attend. At the end of the day they didn't really know anymore tha the avg person, but let me market for you and pay me. They always said farmers needed to remove the emotional aspect of making marketing decisions. Didn't take me long that it never bother them when I had to make margin calls!

I believe the numbers from IRA's is about $ 12 Trillion, and 401K's is about $ 8 Trillion.

You think the US govt wouldn't like to get their mitts on that $ 20 Trillion, considering the "so-called" deficit is $ 32T?

The scuttlebutt that I've heard, is they are interested in taking that retirement money and rolling it into Treasuries.

It could be one of those "take it or leave it" legislations. Its no longer important if its legal or illegal, they will just write a law to make it legal.

I have no connection to either retirement plan, but I would hate to see this happen.

That's why I have no entity between me and my money.

countrybob is one of those dudes a guy should consider listening to. He's talking 50 years of experience, and trust me, he's been through the good, bad, and terrible economic eras and managed to maintain and thrive through all of it.

I probably embarass him on here, but he and I have had many, many conversations about things, and when it comes to issues dealing with farming, I have a ton of trust and respect for the man.

He's a modest guy, and as you know, I can be pretty preachy. That's why we are such great friends.

countrybob is one of those dudes a guy should consider listening to.

You're much too kind!
