NFL Head coaches hirings and firings

"Mayo, who had been the team's linebackers coach under Belichick since 2019, was able to be hired without a lengthy search process due to the contractual succession plan the team signed last offseason, according to multiple reports. The team therefore did not have to adhere to the league's Rooney Rule.

The succession plan was part of the extension Mayo signed with the team last offseason, when he withdrew from consideration for the Carolina Panthers' coaching search."

Help me understand… as a person of color, wouldn’t the Rooney Rule already have been met anyway? Would they have been penalized for not interviewing a person of color while hiring a person of color?

What took so long to get rid of Rivera, never should have happened in the first place?! Now, it's a question of is this new ownership going to go down the same old path to a new coach as Snyder did?! Need someone who knows how to build a team and this starts with the offensive line, which was the patch work quilting bee group.
That might be another case of it doesn’t matter who the coach is until they get better work from their GM.

hilariously bad hire.

love to see it!
It’s going to depend on who they hire as a GM and coordinators. It’s a complete rebuild now so I expect he’ll get a grace period. The NFL has become a player relationship business. IMO that’s why we’ve seen the Raiders have some success after in season firings twice now.

The Krafts love their hire and by all accounts he’s a very bright guy. IF their GM can assemble the right roster and coordinators he’ll be fine.

Well of course they do, the Patriots are in love with themselves.

Mayo has never operated outside of the Patriots, I hope and expect he is total failure

The other day I tried to rob a bank, thinking I was invisible. As I was being handcuffed I asked the cops how they could see me? They replied, "We could see your pink skin."
