Seems changes need to be made with these NIL deals and the portal. It seems reasonable that NIL contracts be held binding with pay contingent on the player still being on the team and not transferring out with penalties paid if they do? With Crawford he made money off NIL and got a full year of free education and contributed nothing to the football team and is now transferring. Seems universities and businesses could avoid getting screwed and maybe provide these kids with more incentive to stay if they could lose money by transferring.

Blame this 100% on the outgoing president of the NCAA. The man is a woke coward... He purposefully sabotaged college football with his last 2 major decisions. This now opens the door to a minor league system for the NFL.

You can be as hardball as you want but there’s almost certainly schools around the country who will undercut your terms and leave you paying second and third tier players.

Pandora’s box is open. We wanted to be one of the big boys and big boys get to feed the money pit.

I'm sure every NIL contract is unique and likely covers all these scenarios. In this particular case, I don't know how much money was involved but the company sure got a lot of free publicity out of the deal. So I'd say they likely got their moneysworth.

Nothing is stopping anyone from putting contingencies in NIL contracts....but good luck getting the best players if you do.

We got people losing their minds over what coaches get paid when it's not their (tax) money, and now we got people losing sleep over how a business spends their advertising budget.

Totally depends on how much money the kid got and the cost of the ads. If they planned on using the commercial over the next few years its return on investment will drop exponentially as the players notoriety will drop to zero.
 
I always just assumed NIL deals had language in them that if you leave, the biz doesn't have to pay you anymore. Seems reasonable....if companies are signing kids without a similar clause, they're taking a risk I wouldn't be comfortable taking, but it's their right to do so. On the other hand, I have never actually seen an NIL contract. For all I know, some of them are just one big lump sum? Maybe some are monthly payouts? Maybe other?? I honestly don't know.

...and for the record, I hate the NIL and transfer portal.
 
I think the NIL groups will learn their lessons and do what they can to maximize their own gain/interests within the allowed framework.
But these early years are a learning curve.

The bad news is you want the NIL groups working as best they can in alignment with your team’s own interests… but the team “can’t be involved.”
So it’s messy in that regard.

Has nothing to do with him being 'woke' and everything to do with him and other university presidents not taking this issue on directly. They knew it was coming for years. They knew they were going to lose in court and kept trying to kick the can down the road. It wasn't them being 'woke', it was them being incompetent.

Allowing male students to participate in female sports is the definition of woke.

Mental Health is borderline for me, when you take the truth out of society and deal strictly in the "gray" or lies, it is hard to deal with life. Life is black and white, truth or lies, but if there are no absolutes young people can not deal with life. There is "male and female" only! No alphabet soup organization can not change this truth. The lie is "pronouns", you can be who you want to be. When you continually try to put a label on people you miss the truth. Mental Health professionals do not do any people any favors by keeping them in the pronouns to make them accept a lie. This is where mental health fails. There are many people needing help because the truth no longer exists.

This is what they're supposed to be doing. I'm not the one implementing anything. I choose to treat people of all backgrounds fairly and equally.

Again, it is less the 'woke boogeyman' and entirely Emmert's (and the university presidents who enabled him) incompetence related to NIL. The NCAA knew they were going to lose and still spent millions of dollars ($300+ million over the last 7 fiscal years) on legal fees. Did the NCAA have a plan if they lost the case? Nope.

Other than moving parts around more often, the NIL and portal have had very little impact on college football and recruiting class. They are pretty much the same now as they were a few years ago. The best recruiting teams remain at the top and so on.

As time goes on, the way and amounts of NIL money that is paid out will more than likely get tweaked, how it is today will evolve, after all, there’s only so much money to go around.


Whomever puts up the cash would like some kind of return on investment, winning football or other sports being high on the list.

How many kids inadvertently screw their chances of playing football beyond college because they're dicking around for a few nil dollars and transferring around? Choose a school, get locked in to the culture, get to work, and then make some cash on the side. It seems short-sighted for a lot of these kids. I don't fault them for making some money, but their priorities are screwed up
