B1G Cancels Football Season

People could have done the work in order for sports to have a chance. But people were too busy making excuses for not doing the easy things and spending time in the land of magical thinking.
Never really got my hopes up for pulling this off. I feel bad for the players. I feel bad for my youngest kid, who already missed a track season and is about to lose his Sr. season of XC. He did the right things. Too many others didn't.

the ACC is blowing every other conference out of the water in how they're handling this.

school presidents regularly meeting with teams to hear concerns. added notre dame (whose campus is entirely open to students today).

they look like they want to play. B1G didn't.

Why are some worried about schools who don't cancel, getting players who want to transfer? Could Nebraska add more players to their 2020 class? No, and I am guessing other schools are in the same boat.
I'm sure some would get "creative" with medical redshirts.

Also, I thought we were supposed to contribute a portion of our stimulus to the county scholarship funds. Like tithing.

I think if enough people get upset we can reverse this. If enough boosters and fans put up a fight they may change their mind. Everything American is under attack. Our history by destruction of statues and changing of names, our economy by force closures while select groups get help to riot, our churches need to be closed while you can go to WalMart or the liquor store, we can gather to protest but we can't have sports or school. Our way of life is under attack and we need to stand up.

I don't think Neb can create their own schedule. I mean they can probably go rouge and just do it it, at the risk of pissing off the BIG10 powers that be and getting kicked out. Not sure how all the legal stuff works. Maybe we have no options legally

We are arguing about this issue on the K-State Rivals board. I am curious what type of language is in the Big 10 contracts regarding pandemics.

In my view, the Big 10 could stop Nebraska football if the Big 10 can pay the money they are legally responsible to pay Nebraska. My presumption is that the Big 10 will not be able to pay Nebraska and that would then make the contract void unless it has some sort of pandemic exemption. I don't think that the Disney and Fox will be paying money to conferences if they don't play football but maybe I am wrong about that too.

As of this moment I think that the ACC is probably the key to this. If the ACC comes out strongly in favor of football then I think it will be very hard for the Big 10 to shutdown while the Big 12, SEC and ACC go ahead and try to play.

If the Big 10 were to shutdown this week and the Big 12 were to decide to play I think it would make a lot of sense for the Big 12 to add 2 schools as temporary members for this football season. Nebraska probably makes the most sense but other schools like Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Colorado, Arizona State, make sense as well.

I would lobby for an 11 team round robin of Big 12 play. Stretch the season into December with an additional week or two of games and an extra bye week.

The bowl games wouldn't really work with only half of the conferences playing and limited travel so we could Play the Big 12 Championship on New Year's day.

Force Majeure about to get beat to death by our lawyers. I have no idea what our contracts look like, but the topic is already being discussed I bet.

No Thanksgiving, No Christmas, No New Years.

How so? The in coming Freshman have already signed and this years class wouldn't be eligible anyway. Not seeing how it would have much of an impact on recruiting.

A related questions. What would happen with student eligibility if only some teams played. Could Sr's come back next year on teams that played, but not on teams that didn't? Would the 85 limit apply to everyone?
If the SEC plays then every coach out there is going remind kids what conference is committed to football. Just another straw that the SEC doesnt need.

unless the big 10 can come up with real numbers to point to potential danger of wuhan flu for the age group involved then they might just find themselves up sht crick without a paddle. this has socialist logic smeared all over it and it stinks to high heaven. we all have to stand and fight this bullying by a small group of radicals

163,000 Americans have died of Covid-19 in less than six months from this highly transmittable virus. But yes, it's "socialist logic". RollingLaugh

Why not vote on this before the revised schedule is released? What an idiot. I thought this conference was about leaders.

NU looks good in all this though. We put our money where our mouth is. We claim to be passionate about football and we backed that up. F*ck OSU, PSU, and Michigan. Posers.

163,000 dead Americans say it's science, not politics.
Meanwhile Worldometer's statistics show a dramatic drop in new deaths over the past week..... The curve appears that we're on the backside of a "second wave" which pales in comparison to the first wave on the east coast. Was that a real "second wave" or was it reporting/testing bias? I believe it was probably real.

You can not deny that a congressman was caught on tape in a meeting saying "this pandemic is an opportunity to advance many of our goals".

Here is my question:

Would you rather see a makeshift schedule in the fall or a full Big Ten schedule in the spring?

It is, bad logic

The disease kills people who already have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

The stats are only believable to the NPC-variety that rely on authorities to feed them their thoughts

Most people just want normalcy back. You know, the kind of normal that happens when you walk out of your door without your nose in your phone and the TV telling you to hide in your basement over a disease that kills 0.03% of the infected.

A real pandemic wouldn't need a death toll meter nor would it need a media constantly bleating how dangerous it is. It would be self-evident. This freaking disease only exists on TV. My community of over 250k, home to a large, nationwide industry of nearly 20k employee should have been devastated. We were not in any form. I travel for my job, my sales territory is in the NE. Even in NY and NJ, although they were fearful most didn't even know anyone that had tested positive.

I left this site back in February, as I saw this virus already being politicized and the usual non-thinking element trying to fear-induce the patrons who frequent this site.

I was mean to a few members and shouldn't have been. I apologize and I'm okay with it if you're still bitter, I deserve that. Dinglefritz, you were one and you didn't deserve what I said to you.

We are losing our freedoms to something far more sinister. A lot of you can see it and feel it. To the ones that can't, you're really lost and if I were you - I'd devote my waking time to breaking free of the programming.

Correct. Only 12 patients in Lincoln with COVID are being treated at Bryan and St E’s.

If we were only talking about Lincoln, I'd happily say go play. But we're talking about the entire country. Our country has 1/3 of all the active cases worldwide. Our country has almost 70,000 more deaths than the next closest country. Our country still has almost 2.4 million active covid-19 cases.

I wish people had given a shit about this impacting football back in April so we might be in a better position to actually see football this fall.

And to Nebraska football - obviously the conference isn't worried about you. Now is the time - if you want to go play football - find a way. Leave this politicized mess behind. It's no coincidence the B1G has some states that were home to the most draconian measures for their people's "safety"
NY, PA, NJ, WI, MI, MD and IL - yes, they all have something in common and it isn't your well-being

Since there is a negative one million% chance there will be spring football, much less a full B10 slate in the spring, I'll take "makeshift schedule in the fall" even if it's only 4 OOC games.

If we play a B1G schedule in the spring, what happens in the fall of 2021?

If you don't play in the fall of 2020, playing a spring schedule makes little sense because of the ramifications on the 2021 fall schedule because you're not having both. Just my two cents.
