Stockholm Syndrome....

Is there anything in life that brings you as much misery as Husker football that you are totally dedicated to....?

I don't mean the obvious things like death, sickness, major life events, divorce, etc. I mean, I do have perspective....

I mean every day common things. I have a pretty good life so not a lot of bummer life event but this year, Husker football might be finally breaking me for being a totally dedicated fan.

This post is mostly tongue in cheek but god gawd, the last ten years have been downright cruel.

I will continue to watch and cheer and care(not as much), I must have a screw loose...maybe I should just laugh at the absurdity.

Hope

I see hope for the future with the Holgorsen hire. Our offense continued to struggle at USC, especially in the red zone, but I thought the offensive play calling was definitely better. Give him time and Holgorsen will get this offense going. I hope he sticks around.

But we need a serious upgrade in talent across the board, especially on the offensive line. It all begins there. Our inability to run the ball consistently is why we struggle in the red zone.

Hit the portal hard for offensive linemen and physical wide receivers who can block and escape man to man press coverage.

The defense has its issues and is overrated but the fact is they played well enough for us to win. And that is true of every game this year except Indiana. As up and down and frustrating as our defense has been they have kept things close enough for us to win.

We need an improved offensive line as the top priority going forward. Nothing else will matter until that happens.

The Ghosts of Nebraska

At the beginning of the season when Nebraska was 3-0, the players were all uppity about how they played for the fans and how it was the fan's energy that drove them. A disappointing loss to Illinois was argued away as some things that just didn't go their way. The fans were in attendance but they could see a team getting punched in the mouth regardless of what the preacher had to say post game. So, now Nebraska is 0 fer in their last 4 games; is it the fans' fault? Was the moniker of "we play for the fans" BS? Or is it something else?

Perhaps it is time to send a message to the administration. Perhaps it's time to send a message to the preacher. Perhaps a different approach is necessary. But how many wash, rinse and repeat coaching scenarios does Nebraska go through before they start to realize that nothing has changed? Every season, we heard a hand full of players talking about how they want to bring Nebraska back to greatness. I have said it once and I will say it again, the ghosts of Nebraska's past are too strong. Every home game seems to be an homage to one of the old championship teams or an All-American on a team that had resounding success.

There is a psychological hold on this program. The players can't take two steps without being reminded about how great Nebraska used to be. They win a few games and everything is great. However, as soon as they lose one or two, their confidence goes to shit because they're disappointing the ghosts of Nebraska.

I don't know what the solution may be given the circumstances of yet another disappointing season. Several have suggested that people stop going to the games - that'll show 'em. Sure but then the players psyche seems beyond repair. Are they trying too hard? Is it something about the coaching staff? And heaven for bid, if they beat Wisconsin on Saturday with only 50,000 fans in attendance, it could turn into a "us v. them" scenario - which is only good for a game or two. So, what is the solution? Anyone?

Nebraska versus Cincinatti - 2025

This game is scheduled to be played at Lucas Oil Stadium. They are considering moving it to Arrowhead.

I was really looking forward to visiting Lucas Oil Stadium

Football Holgorsen "simplified" offense so Husker players can play fast, free

"He came in and just made the game simple for us," Husker RB Emmett Johnson said after the loss. "We had a simple game plan coming in. Everybody knew their assignment. We just went out there and executed. Most importantly, he came in and just told us to play free, be ourselves."

Did anyone else see this?

I'm sure I was just seeing things but on the first USC scoring drive when the QB scrambled and hit the guy down on the four yard line it looked like the receiver came back in from out of bounds. (clearly caught it in bounds). On the replay it was a bad angle but still appeared that way. Did anyone else see that or am I just grasping at straws?

Edit: I found video of it go to :26 in the video and pause. Appears his left foot is out of bounds.

Were any other schools vying for Rhule's services?

I can't honestly remember him being reported to be in talks with any other schools when we hired him. I remember it being reported that we basically had to negotiate against Carolina's buyout for him, but were there other teams? I remember it being reported that he turned down Oregon when he took the Baylor job. I'm sure there were other teams in on him and it just wasn't reported, or I'm just forgetting. But if not, that should have been a huge red flag
