Football Five Takeaways: Corey Campbell, Donovan Raiola & Rob Dvoracek

Did some digging out of today's presser for my Five Takeaways column.

– Corey Campbell mostly reiterated/doubled down on what he said last week, but he did go into more details about individualized positional training (mainly about OL).

– Donovan Raiola talks about "meshing well" with Matt Rhule and Marcus Satterfield – and I think that's more important than some realize because of what happened last year.

– I'm trying to trademark a new nickname for Tony White's defense: "Versatile Chaos" (how we feeling about that one?)

Nate Oats …thoughts

Seems like a big “sweep it under the rug” scenario going on at Bama. Oats says his star player who brought the gun to the scene of the eventual murder was “in the wrong place at the wrong time”. Oats and probably the entire staff and AD new about this for over a month and kept quiet. I wouldn’t be shocked if dominoes start to fall in that program very soon, it’s ugly down there

Notre Dame Issue

With further expansion of the Big 10 and the SEC, Notre Dame remaining as an Independent MAY leave them on the outside looking in.

Each of those Conferences will be able to put together so many games with other major Brand Name Universities that nobody will have any need nor desire to play them.

And each of those Conference School will be flush with cash from their Conference TV agreement with other Universities clamoring to join.

And there is also the possibility of the Big 10 and the SEC putting an agreement together for some type of annual inter-Conference games.

Notre Dame could possibly end up with an empty schedule of games that matter. And see their Brand and TV funds diminished.

And Ohio State’s dropping games with Washington so close to the playing dates, and with such short notice shows just how fast things can change.

I can see coming difficulty for them without a full Conference Affiliation.

And because of their location and AAU membership, IMO there is only one Conference that makes sense from an above the surface view.

JMO, but I can see Notre Dame soon suffering from a somewhat similar situation, with a somewhat similar sense of urgency that Nebraska had causing their vigorous and very public pursuit of membership into the Big 10.

Basketball WBB FINAL: Nebraska 90, No. 25 Illinois 57

Nebraska is back in action tonight at 7 p.m. as the Huskers (14-13, 6-10) have a rematch with No. 25 Illinois (20-7, 10-6) in Champaign. The Illini will officially become the school-record 12th AP Top 25 opponent this season for NU.

It was a rough first meeting for Nebraska as the Huskers led most of the way until a 20-0 third quarter run to give Illinois a gut-wrenching 72-64 victory on Feb. 20. Nebraska isn't technically out of the NCAA Tournament picture, but they need to win out and then win 2-3 games in the Big Ten tournament - which includes an upset of a top four seed.

You can watch on BTN+ tonight.
