We got married on T.O.'s first game 50 years ago today

Game was supposed to be on the 15th. Back then ABC only had one game on Saturday. After we had everything reserved ahead of time ABC approached NU-UCLA about moving the game to the 8th about two weeks before the game. We needless to say, were not pleased to hear the change but with a TV on the bar at the reception it turned out o.k. Fortunately NU pounded UCLA 40-13 and I didn't have to get a drink as often as I anticipated to check the score. T.O.'s first win and I'm an old guy still married to the same wonderful gal 50 years later.

OT: New TV Recs

Our 2019 55" Samsung crapped out a couple of weeks ago. Not surprisingly, although it could be repaired, the cost would be basically the same as a new TV. So I'm looking for a new one.

The 55 was fine from a size standpoint; the space will accommodate up to 65 (which I wouldn't mind), but nothing larger. It's in the family room, so it gets the most use of the TVs in the house. Price isn't much of a constraint, except my expectation is whatever we get will be toast in five or fewer years. If I thought spending more up front would increase the useful life, I wouldn't have an issue with that, but that really doesn't seem to be how things work any longer. No particular brand loyalty. Any input would be appreciated. TIA.

Taking an overdue hiatus from Husker football...

I have been on this site for several years and I have really enjoyed the husker football banter and learned alot about other things like bourbon, mail-order meat from Nebraska, etc. But the pain of being a Nebraska fan is getting too much to bear. I may watch next Saturday night but I have a stretch after that where I cannot watch unless I really make plans to as I will be away - I have chosen not to bother. My next game after that that I will likely watch will be NW on Oct 21. By then I figure we will likely be 1-5 (I think we will lose one of the next two) on our way to a 2-11 season.

Therefore I am truly taking a break from football and posting...packing up the big red Dodge Dakota and hitting the road for a bit. Hopefully we will have 4 wins by Oct 21 and everyone here can get on me ...I will be happy to eat crow in that case.!!

Gus Johnson mini rant

Just gonna say something about the game yesterday. Is anyone else annoyed whenever Gus Johnson is calling literally ANY game, not just ours? Dude is a human blowhorn everytime a team gets a first down. As a viewer, you are guaranteed at least a dozen times a game of Gus sounding like a bad porn actor. He is still better than Beth Mowens but the point remains. Settle down Gus. You are good in interviews on sportstalk, but you are going to cause me to go insane if I have to continue listening to you call games.
