Softball Jordy Bahl garners preseason honors

Press release via Nebraska Athletics:

Nebraska softball junior Jordy Bahl was named a Softball America Preseason First-Team All-American and was No. 9 on Softball America’s Top 100 Players to Watch for the 2025 season, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The Papillion, Neb., native, was the only Big Ten player to be named a First-Team All-America and one of only four Big Ten players named a preseason All-American.

Bahl enters her second season with the Huskers after suffering a season-ending injury in NU’s first game of the 2024 season. Prior to coming to Nebraska, the junior competed for Oklahoma, where she was a two-time NFCA First-Team All-American and two-time Big 12 Pitcher of the Year. She was also the 2022 National Freshman of the Year. Bahl owns a 1.06 career ERA, along with a .350 batting average.

Bahl and the rest of the Huskers will open their season at the NFCA Leadoff Classic from Feb. 6-9 in Clearwater, Fla.

Today we talk about our dads

Would love to hear stories about your dads!

We lost our father 10 years ago today at the age of 75. He was a great man with a gentle soul.

When we were little fellers living in Adams County, weekends were often spent down at the Blue River or driving the county roads listening to the Huskers on the ol AM radio hunting rabbits or ditch chickens. One of our favorite things was convincing him tell us stories about his high school basketball and football games. As a 7 year old we thought he was bigger than Michael Jordan. He was our hero.

After moving to Wyoming I don't think he ever missed a game or track meet of mine or my brother's from jr high through high school. (and if you know anything about Wyoming almost all of our away games were over 100 miles away). Every summer weekend we were in the mountains fishing and Sundays in the fall and winter we were in the country hunting.

Once we went off to college we didn't see as much of him, of course. We moved to different places and started our careers and families. He and my mom divorced and both remarried. Things were just different then. I'd see him a few times a year and talk every couple weeks on the phone. He was always pretty healthy but then within a few years in his early 70s he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and then COPD. My stepmother had died a few years earlier. They did EVERYTHING together and I think his will to live just quit. I believe he wanted help but wouldn't accept any, if that makes sense. He refused to be a burden on me or my brother. I could go on and on with stories and about how he shaped and molded us, and how kind he was to everyone. Everybody I know loved "Rodeo Rod" or "Wilderness Rod", the nicknames we gave him as kids.

I miss him.

Basketball Defense, grit and free throws help Nebraska knock off No. 15 UCLA

Huge win this afternoon for Nebraska, which beat No. 15 UCLA 66-58.

It marked 20 straight wins inside PBA and the first win over UCLA since Dec. 16, 1955, which was a 71-65 win at the NU Coliseum. That Husker team was coached by Jerry Bush, Fred Hoiberg's grandfather.

Recruiting Quick update on Wazzu transfer OT Fa’alili Fa’Amoe

Fa’amoe is visiting Wake Forest and the Demon Deacons have emerged as the favorite to land him, practically his entire former Washington State offensive coaching staff moved over to Wake Forest and the familiarity with the scheme and staff is likely something Nebraska and Michigan won’t be able to overcome. He’s a relationship guy, Nebraska did a good job establishing one, but tough to compete with the multi-year relationship. It was Dickert that convinced him to convert to offensive line when he was a 6’4, 240ishlb edge rusher and it’s seen his career blossom. There’s a trust there.
