Recruiting On Notre Dame transfer OL Rocco Spindler... (1/30 9:15 AM update)

Can confirm that Notre Dame OL Rocco Spindler is visiting Nebraska on Tuesday. Sources close to him expected a quick decision between Michigan and Indiana, who quickly entered his recruitment when he entered the portal. I fully expected him to end up with the Wolverines or Hoosiers, didn't think any other program had a real shot. Nebraska has come on strong as of late though and had a call with him this weekend that went well enough he's now scheduled to visit.

The Huskers will have to move quick, the deadline for full-course registration is tomorrow so if this does in fact happen for Nebraska, it'll have to be a ridiculously quick turnaround. Spindler started 23 games for Notre Dame at right guard, allowing just two sacks in over 1,300 career snaps. He's a grad transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.

1/30 update: Quick update here, Spindler is aiming to make a decision by this weekend but has other visits in mind. Per reports, he's headed to Pitt, we're working to confirm that, but we can report a visit to Michigan and potentially Virginia is still on the table before a final decision.

Anyone's call at this point, Nebraska isn't thrilled at the fact he left campus without committing, even though he remains in the student directory, but they've made an aggressive pitch and will continue to engage until he makes a final decision.

1/28 Update: For what it's worth, Spindler is currently in Nebraska's student directory

Deadline to enroll is today, so if it happens for Nebraska it'll have to be today. Michigan's fighting to get him on campus, while Nebraska is essentially making sure he doesn't leave campus without an official decision. This isn't a done deal, the directory doesn't 100% mean he's N, but it's a good sign.

Per HurrDat radio this AM ... Tommi Hill is BOMBING at the Senior Bowl

@frontrunner can expand but they had a national NFL scout/recruiting type on 590 AM this morning who said Tommi Hill has ballooned to 210 lbs and looks "sluggish, like he's running in mud" at the Senior Bowl ... sounds like he could be heading for an UDFA type of situation. Wild to think some had him as a 2nd round pick as early as last Spring.

Ty Rob ... Day 3 type of pick but this dude expects he'll have a multi year NFL career ... hasn't flashed in 1 on 1's but has looked real solid in team drills

RIP big Bob Lingenfelter

Bob passed away at home in Plainview recently. He was still doing what he enjoyed, which was farming.

The first time I ever saw, and met Bob, was at a wrestling meet.
I was a 98 pound freshman, and Bob was a heavyweight senior.
To that early point in life, he was easily the biggest human I'd ever seen. Not only big, as in heavy, but tall, a legit 6' 8"
Screwing around in the locker room before the meet started, Bob grabbed his 98 pound team mate in one hand, and me with his other hand, and lifted us up in the air like it was nothing. Like we were rag dolls.

I also remember vividly, when he wrestled our heavyweight, Bob basically bear hugged him, and took him to the mat, and pinned him in 13 seconds. That was nearly 50 years ago, but I remember it vividly.
Before the match started, Bob came out on the mat in tennis shoes, and Max Kinselman, the ref, wasn't going to let him wrestle, because regulation wrestling footwear is required. The Plainview coaches assured the ref, they had tried to find a wrestling shoe big enough, but couldn't.
Max relented, and let him wrestle.

Recruiting 2026 four-star DE McHale Blade has “great” visit to Nebraska

Chicago four-star McHale Blade was on campus today for the Elite Junior Day. He was impressed with what he found.

“The visit was great! I met a tons of great people and the facilities are top notch,” Blade said.

Blade had a good relationship building with coach Matt Rhule. The head man visited him at school last week and then Blade returned the favor on Saturday. Rhule has made a big impression on him because he’s so down to Earth.

The defender is being pursued hard by Michigan and Notre Dame. Both schools will be in the mix until the end but the Huskers are making a strong push. Blade says he will “definitely” return for a spring visit.

UNK Loper Football Sanctions

The only other program in the U of Nebraska system has been hit with sanctions. Former coaches knowingly violated recruiting rules. And they continued to do so after moving to West Texas A&M.
Ryan Held now faces an even bigger task at UNK which historically has operated on far less resources than its peers in the MIAA. Investigaton wrapped up in Oct 2023 but just now it’s announced and sanctions put in place?
