Basketball WBB: Nebraska at Northwestern

We're back at it tonight as Nebraska (13-9, 5-6) travels to Evanston to take on Northwestern (8-14, 1-10) in a rare Monday night showdown between the two conference foes.

The Huskers are coming off a big 71-67 win over Michigan State last Thursday at home while the Wildcats dropped their last game 74-64 to Penn State. That followed Northwestern's lone conference win over Wisconsin 70-67 on Jan. 29th. It's a favorable matchup for Nebraska as the Wildcats are only averaging 64.8 points per game including 61.2 points in Big Ten action.

Caileigh Wilson leads the Northwestern attack with 12.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Football Nebraska is hiring Kristin Coggin to lead Huskers' football performance nutrition department (Updated)

I just confirmed through a source that Nebraska is hiring Kristin Coggin to lead the football program's performance nutrition department. Coggin worked as South Carolina's director of performance nutrition since 2017 and has a strong reputation. She will likely have the title "director of football performance nutrition," but I don't know her official title as of now.

Coggin will be part of the Huskers replacing Dave Ellis, who was Nebraska’s director of performance nutrition since 1994 before Matt Rhule let go of Ellis as part of an overhaul to the team's strength & conditioning and nutrition departments.

Updated info (Tuesday 9:25 a.m.): Coggin will lead the football performance nutrition program. She will not lead the entire athletic nutrition team or oversee training table as Ellis previously did.

A little more background on Coggin:

Basketball 2024 point guard Dayton Forsythe takes in unofficial visit with Huskers

Dayton Forsythe loved his time in Lincoln. Here's a bit more on the 2024 point guard who's definitely on Nebraska's radar. Assistant coach Adam Howard has plans to watch Forsythe in-person later this season.

Rhule staff

I just read that Rhule has hired 40 staffers to join with 10 people who will stay from the former staff. That’s over 50 people, which surprises me. How many of this staff, if any, work across sports. I would think nutrition, weight training and possibly sports science would work across all sports. What do you think?

you may vote up to 4 times. also you can write in a vote--this poll is nearly authoritative but the mods in charge do realize that people are so awful that some actions may have been overlooked.

S&C

It was mentioned In one of the articles that Rhule has mentioned that several player’s bodies were beginning to look different after the first few weeks of training.

What’s the real story behind this? Was the team poorly trained under Riley and Frost to that extent, or is this just wishful thinking?

Comparing them to our teams we in the 1990s, I look at our backs, receivers, and DBs and they seem to be in really good shape. However, our LBs always seem to look thin and undersized and our linemen seemed to be carrying a lot of bad weight.

Is this going to change?
