Courtney Wallace completed a memorable weekend at the Houston Invitational by pitching a complete game shutout in a 2-0 victory over the Cavaliers to close out the three-day tournament. Wallace allowed only six hits while striking out four batters and walking one.
Wallace also tossed five scoreless innings in a season-opening win over Lamar on Friday before shutting out host Houston across seven innings on Saturday afternoon. In total, the graduate student gave up zero runs on 12 hits in 19 innings with 14 strikeouts and four walks over the weekend.
On Sunday, first baseman
Mya Felder hit a two-run homer to center field in the fourth inning for the only score of the game. Wallace also went 2-for-2 at the plate and was the other run brought home on the Felder home run.
The Huskers wrap up the weekend 4-1 and will now head down to Las Cruces, New Mexico to take part in the Troy Cox Classic. Their first opponent will be Oklahoma State on Friday, Feb. 24 at 12:30 p.m. as the Cowboys are the ones who knocked out Nebraska of the NCAA Tournament last spring.
