Prayers Needed...

My dad, 85 years old, went into the hospital two weeks ago. Things took a turn over the weekend and he's now on a ventilator getting dialysis. A few things going on, mostly his kidneys and lungs. Not ready to say goodbye yet and hoping against hope that he can recover from this. In the meantime, sitting with him every day and talking to him, even if he's sedated, it means the world to me.

OT: GOAT Movie or TV Athlete

I caught one of the Rocky movies the other day and tuned in for a while (as i always do) and it got me thinking that he has to be the greatest of all time movie athlete. I mean he's got Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago as pelts on his wall. 2 time heavyweight champion of the world and he's like 5'7 with his boots on. For me he's got to be the GOAT! Who do you have on your list?

There are many other's on my list but here are two more of my favorites:

Gerry Bertier: 2 time all-American. Hell of a leader. Career cut short due to injuries from car wreck. (unfair advantage since he actually existed tho)

Dennis Dodd Speculation on More B1G Expansion and What Happens to the PAC Conference

It's a lengthy article and reflects Dodd's current opinion. Basically he thinks it's quite possible the PAC devolves into a non P5 conference with the 4 corners schools winding up in the Big 12 while Oregon and Washington wind up in the B1G. Sounds like he believes more conference changes are on the way.

If Oregon and Washington come to the B1G, it's possible they would come in initially with a lower revenue share (but one that's still better than they could get from a diminished PAC).

The driver behind all of this is the inability of the PAC to get a good media deal because they lost USC/UCLA, because the Big 12 beat them to the punch in securing deals to fill the available media time slots and because the media giants currently are trying to cut back their expenses.

Basketball White-hot second-half from Michigan State dooms Huskers

Nebraska sees its four-game win streak snapped as Michigan State shoots lights out in the second half to earn the come-from-behind win. Some PBA records were set and tied on Tuesday night. More inside:

Plenty of great stuff from Will Bolt, Michael Garza, Max Anderson and Josh Caron today before heading up north for the biggest early season tournament of the Bolt era.

Volleyball Nebraska's international trip destination is...

Notes from the latest "Kicking Back with the Cooks"

  • Nebraska is headed to Brazil for its 2023 international trip. Nebraska hasn't made a trip since 2019.
  • Nebraska looked at Japan and China. Japan was a good option, but with China's problems with post-COVID and locking the borders, they didn't want to take the risk of getting stuck there.
  • Kennedi Orr had a knee injury that flared up during the indoor season resulting in her skipping the beach season. Cook is working with her and she tried out for the Collegiate National Team last weekend in Colorado Springs.
  • Nebraska's spring match was supposed to happen on April 22nd, but due to Nebraska football's spring game, they moved to the 29th
  • Cook has been on an in-state tour of doing different speaking events. He's been to Broken Bow, Wahoo and Grand Island over the past couple of weeks
  • Cook is now an assistant coach for UNL Rodeo - his next goal is to raise money for a new facility

Football Thinking Out Loud: Nebraska OL Spring Preview

For all the talent at the Huskers' skill positions, all the what-ifs that involve the QBs, RBs, WRs and TEs, none of it really matters unless the offensive line takes a step forward from 2022.

Here are some pre-spring ball thoughts on the O-line:

Basketball Final: Michigan State 80, Huskers 67

Tonight’s final home game of the regular season for the Huskers (15-14 overall, 8-10 in Big Ten) brings Tom Izzo and his Michigan State Spartans (17-11, 9-8) to Pinnacle Bank Arena for an 8 p.m. tip. Nebraska hasn’t beat Michigan State since January 2016.

It's Senior Night, and four Huskers will be walking, including Derrick Walker, Sam Griesel, Emmanuel Bandoumel and Keisei Tominaga.

Here's a bit more on Tominaga and his future with Nebraska:

1995 Team

Who were our 4-5 star players out of HS who started on that team?

Frazier
Phillips
A. Taylor
C. Peter
J. Peter
Wistrom
Farley
Minter
T. Williams

I don't think any of the other players in the starting lineup would have been 4 star (there were several subs who were at that level too). At the same time, Texas, OU, Alabama, Ohio State, etc. were loading up with the same level of star power they are now.

We were able to win with 3 main factors:

1) Brilliant coaching and play calling (offense and defense).
2) A culture that maximized the 3 star talent with maximum effort.
3) Elite players at key/lesser develop-able positions (QB, RB, DL).

We can do this again. It is possible, but the the most important factor is 2 above.
