Basketball Rienk Mast adjusting well to his new environment at Nebraska

“Lately, there are so many big men who just want to shoot threes. But I feel like I’ve never been a big that only wants to shoot threes. I want to be able to do everything and help my team win in that way. Not just shoot threes, but post up, set good screens for my teammates, be able to pass to them, kind of do everything.”

Good stuff from new Husker basketball forward, Rienk Mast. He recently made an appearance on Huskers Radio Network.

In case you missed it, here's the feature we did on Mast, who's from the Netherlands:

Volleyball Jordan Larson's contract details revealed

Per Amie Just of the Lincoln Journal Star, Jordan Larson's contract is for only about three months. Full details:

- Contract begins on Sept. 27 which is just two days before NU travels to Purdue on Sept. 29
- Contract ends on Dec. 31, 2023 unless extended
- $50,000 salary

Based on this contract, I think NU really was one of, if not the only one to allow her to play internationally while still being part of the coaching staff. Very interesting contract to say the least.

OT: Celebrities you’ve met and impressions

Ok, off-season has begun- I’ve met Don Johnson at Texas-TTU game. Dude was very standoffish with me and my 2friends (skybox area) and then got stuck in an elevator with us. He was very short (not that there is anything wrong with that), couldn’t have been taller than 5’6” but had a hot and young Latina with him. Later found out she was some heiress to a fortune in Central America that bailed him out of bankruptcy so good for him, well done!

Baseball Max Anderson, Brice Matthews earn All-America Honors from Perfect Game

Anderson, Matthews Named Perfect Game All-Americans
Huskers.com

Nebraska juniors Max Anderson and Brice Matthews earned All-America recognition for the second time this week, as Perfect Game released its All-America teams on Thursday. Anderson was a second a second-team selection, while Matthews was named a third-team honoree.

Anderson was selected as a second-team All-American by the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball earlier this month. The Omaha native was also named the NCBWA's District 6 Player of the Year, becoming the first Husker to earn the recognition since Luke Gorsett in 2006.

A Golden Spikes Award semifinalist, Anderson was a unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten honoree while hitting .414 with 20 doubles, two triples, 21 home runs, 70 RBI and 51 runs scored.

The junior became the first player in the country to reach 100 hits and finished with 101 hits on the season, which is sixth-most by a Husker in a single-season in program history. Anderson is the first Husker to conclude the season hitting above .400 since John Cole's .418 batting average in 2001.

Anderson became the first Big Ten player with 15 home runs in a conference season with a traditional schedule. Anderson finished the 2023 campaign ranked fourth on the single-season charts in program history with 188 total bases while climbing to fifth with 21 home runs and 43 extra-base hits.

Matthews was named a second-team All-American by NCBWA earlier this week after landing on Collegiate Baseball's third-team All-America list earlier this month.

The junior concluded his 2023 campaign batting .359 at the plate with 11 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs, 67 RBI and 61 runs scored as a first-team All-Big Ten selection. With 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases, Matthews became the first player in program history and second player all-time in the Big Ten to reach the 20-20 club.

The Humble, Texas, native reached base safely in the first 52 games this season to extend his on-base streak to 55 games, which is the longest streak by a Husker since at least 1999. Matthews is tied for ninth on the single-season chart in program history with 20 home runs and is one of 10 Huskers all-time to reach the 20-homer mark at Nebraska.

Volleyball Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason named 2023 team captains

It was revealed during Nebraska Volleyball's post-Brazil press conference that Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason were named team captains for the 2023 fall season. Rodriguez was a captain last season as a sophomore and was named one again this season. Beason — another junior — transferred from Florida in the winter after two season with the Gators including one season as a team captain.

Head coach John Cook mentioned that all 14 players showed up for optional leadership classes. It was required that anyone who was interested in being a captain had to stand up and make their case in front of everyone. All 14 players did so. More coming in the next few days from this loaded press conference. Plenty of great stuff.
