First Down on last drive

Malachi Coleman catches a pass for a first down. Instead, they mark him 2nd and 1 and at least 15 more seconds go off the clock. That just can't happen and that was a momentous mistake in officiating. Our offense is limited enough and #10 was god awful, but calls like that are inexcusable.

Oh yeah, and that non-catch for a TD didn't help much either. Not usually one to blame officiating, but that crew directly impacted this game.

Good to hear

I was listening to Sip and Callahan the other day. They said a few NFL scouts have told Rhule that Nebraska is the hardest working team next to Georgia. Rhule said that was a blow to him, he wants to be number one. They practice outside and go head to head. I love getting back to being a tough team. Build the body and the mind. This coach gets it . Nebraska should never be a soft team like they we're.

What is DONU's Offense going forward?

With all this talk of getting a QB in the portal I feel the real question is what offense will this QB be required to Run??? As we all are painfully aware, With all the injuries & departures Rhule & Co have had to do what they could with what's left in the cupboard.... Because of this there has been a look to the past to establish more of a power run heavy team, mostly QB with some attempted option play tossed in... enter HH/Sims...

When Rhule got hear I think most of us pictured a more Pro Style system with a higher focus on the run but not this direction...

I say all this to ask the question of what is our offense going forward? Does NU stick to this system, make it their identity and bring in a portal QB and other players that can execute this system at a high level? if so, is DK the answer long term at QB who can run that? or is this a system for a guy like Rezac?

Or, will this yet be another year of starting from Scratch on the offense? attempting to go Pro Style and then again, can DK be the answer early on? Just so many questions on this side of the ball...

I am really surprised

Some people seem so surprised and upset the Huskers lost today. Michigan State is probably more talented than any team the Huskers have beat. They have equal talent with Nebraska, but a better QB, and were at home. The team at home, with the better QB and equal talent usually wins. Some people act like they have gone to bowl games 7 out of the last 8 years instead of the exact opposite.

This team has won in spite of HH. He is a way below average QB, and that is being kind. That doesn’t mean I want Sims, I don’t. It is what it is at this point. The defense and coaching has gotten this team to within one game of a bowl birth. They will be underdogs in the next 3 games, but could win any of them. Not because of HH, but in spite of him. ***********Disclaimer again, he is a better option than Sims**************. I hate Diet pop, but I would drink Diet Coke than Diet Pepsi. Doesn’t meam I think Diet Coke taste good.

I have been saying it for weeks. Next year’s QB is not on the roster. I am optimistic about this team with a different QB, another year with this defensive staff, and another year to churn the offensive roster. A bowl birth would be great for extra practices, and is still within reach.

Perspective on Rhule

No doubt that the program is improved under Rhule. We are 5-4 doing it with mirrors on offense without a QB. We’re competing with most of the B10 with a roster that looks like one coming off of probation, with probably the youngest overall set of contributors we have ever played here. The injuries have been dramatic and it’s frankly pretty amazing we’re where we are. We’re essentially playing all freshman or former walk-on WRs and we’re also suffering the injury bug in the defensive backfield.

That being said, 3 issues have hurt us that’s on him. Not that he could have predicted this, but nonetheless on him.

The Sims experiment was a disaster. This one was not all his fault as Sims played better at GT than here, but when the lights came on here, he flopped. Maybe if his first start would have been at home it would have turned out better. That being said, I’m not yet totally convinced that HH has done any better than Sims would have done. But Sims got hurt and that was that.

Staying with Corcoran until he got hurt was a mistake. Maybe he had no choice because Teddy wasn’t ready, but almost anyone would have been better.

Finally, I think we could have done better than Satterfield on this staff. But that remains to be seen as he can hide behind the lack of a QB for now.

Honestly can't think of a worse performance by a Husker QB

12/28 for 129 yards (4.6 average) with 2 picks and another that was called back on a defensive hold.

14 carries for 37 yards (2.6 average)

3 turnovers
2 fumbles (1 lost)

I was honestly a bit shocked that despite his ineffectiveness and his continuation of being reckless with the football, that we wouldn't even try something different. We just continued down the same road we were on to a bad L against a 2-6 team mired in controversy without a head coach.
